Escapist Expo 2013
So who is planning on going to The Escapist Expo this year? The time is quickly approaching for it, and I'm curious if anyone from the LRR forum will be able to make it.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
I was thinking about it but I heard disappointing things about it from last year.
really crowded, not much to do, stuff that should have been in a large room was just sorta in the hallway like sales tables with lines of people just lingering.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
I enjoyed myself last year. It was crowded in some areas, but it wasn't really that bad most of the time. I didn't really run into any long lines in the halls besides the main room's panels (and considering they had a lot of the big names from the Escapist, it doesn't surprise me). The only time I didn't have anything to do was for a couple of hours before the main event for the night. But even then, there were things like the Humans Vs. Zombies, Magic, the main area full of booths, and other things going on at the con. And a lot of other stuff going on too.
Then again, that's just me. I can see how someone might not have enjoyed themselves. It wasn't PAX, but it was also their first year. I'm hoping they've fixed some issues they had.
Personally, I'm hoping to go. But a poor financial situation for myself and the people I've been talking about going with leads me to think I'm not going to be able to make it this year.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
Ive been talking with some friends about going this year. But financially only one of us can actually afford it. So I'm not sure I'll be able to go.
Re: Escapist Expo 2013
I wouldn't mind, but timing and capital are not my strong suit.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
Is there any sense for how much interaction there is with the guests of honor? Let's face it, I would be going there solely for Graham & Paul and Yahtzee. There are conventions in and around Chicago that would be much more convenient for me to attend, but they'll never have Graham & Paul. Yahtzee rarely gets to come to North America.
There doesn't seem to be a whole lot to do in Durham. I suppose it's only about 4 hours to get to D.C. from there so that's a consideration, but it's still pretty much convention or bust for the trip.

I can't speak for Yahtzee or any of the other guests, but I know Graham and I will try to make ourselves as available as possible. We don't know the exact details yet, but when we aren't on panels we will probably be set up somewhere on the show floor selling merch, signing stuff and taking pictures.
Re: Escapist Expo 2013
Thanks for the info Paul! It's good we won't have to kidnap you - I mean accost you - I mean wistfully only see you from afar. The upside to there being nothing to do in Durham is that it's pretty cheap to get there, stay there and eat things. We'll see.

I disagree about nothing to do in Durham.
The worlds largest collection of Banjos at the Patterson’s Mill Country Store.
Durham Central Park is over 5 acres of walking paths. The Largest variety of Roses in the South third largest in the country 4th largest in the world at Witherspoon. Nasher Museum of Art and Duke University as a whole.
Plus... its in North Carolina, you cant take three steps without hitting a Civil war something.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
For anyone who's going and hasn't gotten a room, you can get a discounted room at the Marriott (the hotel attached to the convention center) for $121 until September 2ed. Though it's only until Sunday, so the last night will be the normal rate.
Re: Escapist Expo 2013
Most of the crowding last year was because the show did WAYYYY better than The E had predicted. I think they handled it well, considering. But listen to regular attendees, not me
It was a ton of fun, and they've expanded this year. Should be even better.

Anyone going to the Expo looking for a roommate? Just booked my flights, now searching for a place to sleep. Also considering Couchsurfing.

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
So, anyone else going, or is it just going to be a couple of us?
Also, is it just going to be Graham and Paul going again this year? Or will there be more members of LRR there?

He has little voodoo dolls of the entire crew, including those who don't regularly appear in videos, which he sticks with pins every morning.

That's unfortunate. I was hoping with how successful it was last year, they'd at least be able to get the core crew to come. But oh well.
Anyone who's going need a room? One of the people in my group dropped, so now we have an extra spot open. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested.

So... if we'd known before that PAX East 2014 wasn't going to have LRR at it... how many of us might have made the extra effort to get out to THIS one?

I'm actually going to be able to make it this year. I'm pretty stoked about meeting Graham and Paul. Do we know if there is any kind of meet-up scheduled outside of the main event?
Is it safe?

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
It isn't easy to find on the expo website at the moment, but the panel schedule is now online! Check it out at:
http://www.escapistexpo.com/panels/schedule
As you can see, Graham and I are both going to be on various panels throughout the convention and between panels you will probably find us hanging out at our table on the show floor, so come say hi!

Re: Escapist Expo 2013
Hmm... the schedule feels a bit sparse, but that's not a bad thing. I've already made a list of the panels I want to see.
Does anyone know if there's going to be a Friday night event, like the Moviebob thing from last year? It sounded like they're trying to get something like that this year. I remember him mentioning it in his 'what are you looking forward to' video. But I'm not sure if there's been a definitive answer.
And does anyone know what time the Expo hall will close this year? I don't remember when it did last year.
