Most people dont realize but bull moose was a legitimate party for awhile the democrats just did a bang up job of spin and made it look like instead of two parties it was one party fighting itself (which it kind of was) and the republicans and progressives just ran into that head first fighting each other and ignoring the democrats.

So... I'm not sure what's going on. Is the shutdown over? On top of that, it sounds like the they've figured out the debt limit thing. But I don't have any concrete evidence of any of this.

So, to recap.

Yesterday, there was a Senate bill put forward. It was rejected. So the Democrats gave away yet another piece of their legislation, to finally put it through. The Republicans, as usual, gave away squat.

And, of course, the Republicans carefully ensures the vast majority of their members voted no, so that their election chances are maximised.

Seriously, Democrats. Grow some balls and actually FIGHT.

[edit] Kevin Drum's rundown of the winners of the shutdown is pretty funny. I'd add Vibrators.com, whose promotion during the shutdown was inspired.

I'm honestly surprised this has not happened. I'm pretty sure if the British government shut down I'd go to Westminster and personally tell them to get the fuck on with doing their jobs... have there been any marches in Washington or anything?

There have been some protests both in washington and at large but the media has been ignoring them. The 24 hour news networks rely a lot on politics so they tend to only focus on protests against their political opposites. The protests have been mostly against both parties and the stupidity of congress in general they havent been silly rage against silly thing.

Don't you remember, we had a hung parliament for two weeks. We had no government.

Yet the Belgians came out of the economic crisis better then most of the European countries, if I recall correctly. Because no ministers didn't mean the government shut down for 4 years.

Now taking odds that we're back in this exact same situation come January. I'd say 50/50, but I'm afraid that's too optimistic.

Yep; and people complain about ME being a procrastinator? Our 'role models' can't commit to JACK SHIT.

Americans: speak with your State-level governments; get them all to demand a constitutional amendment; if Congress can't pass the budget, then Congress doesn't get PAID.

And hell, after x amount of time with a shutdown, Congress is dissolved, and EVERY FUCKING representative & senator is kicked out of office and there's an unprecedented number of by-elections.
