What Does Your Username Mean to You?
Re: What Does Your Username Mean to You?
Originally "ecocdavid" came from a 9th grade German class (Hey Memo!). Our teacher was an environmental nut (seriously, we learned the German word for eutrophication before "sun tan lotion"), albeit a forward-looking one. One of our projects (in 1995) was to create a web page with an evironmentalism theme. I had recently read about "eco cars" and the newest exciting prototype from Toyota that went on to ultimately become the original Prius. So I created an email address and webpage for "ecocdavid" or "eco car David." It was only later that I discovered we weren't supposed to actually get a web page, only "design" one. I believe I received some extra credit, however, for actually having a functional web page.
I've shortened it to ecocd since then. So the original pronunciation was "ee-koh see dee." Everyone actually pronounces it "echo see dee" and what do I care?
My wife pronounces it "ee-cocked" so good for her.

ecocd - echo-see-dee (We apologize for the inconvenience)

Re: What Does Your Username Mean to You?
I've had a bunch over the years, but for whatever reason, started going with Corvus, the genus ravens and crows are in, both because ravens have that gothy, dark, edgy, coolness to them (yes, I'm aware how dumb that is), and also because ravens and crows are super smart, which is fascinating.
Corvus turned into MrCorvus as Corvus was often taken. Later this turned back to korvys, which is how you would write Corvus in lojban, which I occasionally try to learn. And with apologies to Bebop, capitalisation means something different in lojban, so this is actually the correct way to write it. I too, am disappointed by incorrect capitalisation.

I wanted my name to be Draco, named after the Magic: the Gathering dragon that is also my avatar.
Unfortunately the name was already taken so I went for the first thing that popped in my head and sounded about the same. Haven't looked back since.

If I may, that is an incredibly unimaginative name for a dragon.

Might I suggest "Balgok-Uth, Devourer of Souls?"

Very true. In my defense I was 17 years old and green as can be.
By now it's too late to change my name. It has become me.
(nowadays, I regularly think up dragons and I give them much better names)

I lurk in a lot of place, since I no longer lurk here, I picked it for my username (you can tell I'm super creative). I only use ex-Lurker for LRR related stuff though, I tend to pick different usernames for everything.
Totally accurate, except for all the times I'm not.

Mine is based off of one of Douglas Addams's favorite facts, being that young sloths will often mistake their own limbs for tree branches and, in grabbing them, plummet out of trees
He habitually wears an expression as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it (Description of U.S. Grant)

And as Plummeting_sloth has suffered no less than 87 concussions resulting from falling out of trees while grabbing onto his arm instead of a tree limb, he felt it appropriate.

I want to necro this, as I'd find it interesting to see where the usernames of the past 3 years of new folks have come from.

Oh! Cool!
My name is a reference to James Burke's Connections series. The arclight and the dynamo are two important technologies he highlights, and the arclight is right there in the show's opening credits. The image is kind of creepy and haunting, and it stuck with me.

Re: What Does Your Username Mean to You?
The first username I stuck with between more than one website was mocliamtoh. What can I say, I was really uncreative when coming up with email addresses. In 2009, I started watching people from Speed Demos Archive stream speedruns, and that name was annoying because people would inevitably stumble over how to pronounce it. It didn't help that I never had a canonical pronunciation for it.
When I bought my Something Awful account, I decided to just skip the headache, and chose Unpronounceable as a jab at my old username. It's not perfect. It is too long for Battlenet, and there isn't a good short form for this five syllable name (Unpro really doesn't work). Either way, it's mine, and doesn't seem to be common, so all the better for me.

Re: What Does Your Username Mean to You?
My username here is, to be honest, my lesser used username, mostly because it's mostly taken.
As a child, I have a vivid memory of seeing a historic map of Iceland with the volcano Hekla being very prominent. I then read somewhere that it was the mouth of hell. It doesn't really fit with my personality, but it fits with my love of Iceland.
QuintonDreaming is just one of my parents' cats that I named, Quinton, doing what he always seems to be doing: dreaming. Quinton was just a name I made up.

I'm also QuintonDreaming. Stupid username availability prevents me from always being an Icelandic volcano.

You know, I've been around for at least three of these threads and I don't know that I've ever posted in one. So let's fix that.

"Bobalob" was a nickname from secondary school, and I was born in 1993. I used it in a few places, and as I've used more and more different online places, I've stuck with it to y'know, have a "recognisable brand" across various platforms.

I really liked Chobits a while ago (10 years ago I think). MinniChi turned out to be super easy to remember and most sites have it available. If not, I just add more i's. Which always works out for me.

I modeled a timeship once in early highschool, and got my internet name from that.
Bezirely, despite being absolutely sure I had a image of the ship on a online gallery I cant find it. Even my Renderosity gallery which goes back to 2001 doesnt have it. Im baffled. (https://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery ... /DarkFlame))
I do, however, have a 3d print of the thing I made a year back

(Modeled in Truespace2)
Anyway, named myself after one of my first real 3d models.

Jeezy was my nickname at university, so I was Jeezy everywhere for a while. It's pretty much fallen out of use as a nickname now but I guess I'm still Jeezy in a lot of online places. Unfortunately more recently I find it's not available as a username (e.g. twitch) so the number I add is 56 taken from that scene in Futurama.
