I want to know.
Also, I want to draft that backdraft cube.

We need a list of the cards in that cube. [sarcasm]You guys have time for that, right?[/sarcasm]

Around 1:37 Paul looks at the camera and nods and it's my new favorite scene. I don't know if it was intentional or not, but it was adorable. It also reminded me of Jim Halpert from The Office.

Re: Friday Nights - Politics
Really nice episode.
Im guessing wardrobe choice was on purpose considering Graham and Paul are both wearing Desert Bus shirts and Alex has a Childsplay shirt.

When Graham said he was "going to the store" I kind of expected to hear the tune there...
Also the "with that outfit?" killed me.
Great sketch, very sharply written.

I too want to know what the moon base was being fumigated for, or I will just continue to believe it was being fumigated for hobos.
Overheard at a pre-Theros standard chaos draft:

Drafter, "Your ruining the format Dusty!"

I misread the description "The Alex Initiative seeks support as the Loading Ready Run crew do battle Commando" and was expecting it to go to a weird place

The cards they choose for they cube seem way to good
There must always be a Stark in the Moonbase
Re: Friday Nights - Politics
That was awesome. "Is this an Archenemy game?" "It is now!" is one of my favorite parts of Commander. Does Jer actually have that Diaochan deck and if so is he willing to share the decklist?

This was a really good episode, I am guessing the moonbase is being fumigated because it is full of desert bus prizes and donations.
The episode looked really washed out to me, other than the Cam and James scenes. Did anyone else see this?

Actually I'm fairly sure many of the decks we see are the crew's real decks, I remember Kathleen talking about her Oona deck on Tap Tap Concede.

Re: Friday Nights - Politics
Kathleen did say she has a Oona deck and Jer has also talked about that deck before. Graham and Paul were both using the same prebuilt commander deck so does that mean Alex was using a real deck?

It seems like a pretty Alex deck, but I don't recall him ever mentioning it before. I don't know if he plays Commander that much, I think he focuses more on Highlander.

Re: Friday Nights - Politics
Damn, that was an excellent episode!
I'd like to start by saying that I have absolutely, positively no problem whatsoever with the fact that this episode was essentially, "In Command 2" a sequel to last season's commander episode. I don't object in the slightest, and quite frankly, I now kind of want to see a Commander Night episode each series (much like the one-per-season Mirror Universe episodes of Deep Space Nine, only slightly more hilarious). I imagine Commander has a lot of additional comedic material.
Interesting subplot with Cam and James building a backdraft cube. Do we get an episode with them playing it?
Speaking of which, I think this episode is one of the best this season, and I think part of the reason lies in its clear format-oriented plot. Some of what I feel are the weaker episodes are ones where Magic game takes a backseat to the gang's antics ("Grinding", "Pack on Packs") whereas the best episodes essentially take place during an organized and progressive game of Magic ("Guild FIght", "The Masters" "Prereleasing"). I'd love to not only see an episode where they are drafting that cube (I can only imagine the jokes that the jank cards in that cube would bring!) but also episodes where the gang is actively playing formats like Modern, Draft, Cube, Planechase, Pauper, League, etc. I wouldn't mind seeing another Friday Night Magic at the card shop, either.
In writing this, it occurs to me that we've never really seen a Friday Nights episode centered on drafting. "Guild Fight" had an unsanctioned theme-based draft, but aside from a few early tips to Tally (whose returning player character I wouldn't mind seeing return at some point!) the episode largely focused on the Ravnica Guilds and the Cam + Kathleen Dimir cheating scheme. While this was a great episode (one of my favorites of the entire series) it wasn't exactly centered around the gang drafting, not in the way tonight's episode was centered on EDH, for example. Just pointing that out, considering how much it sounds like you folks draft.
MORE REASONS THIS EPISODE WORKED:
Consistent Characters and In-World Continuity FOR THE WIN! I think shout outs to previous episodes and consistent character traits really help Friday Nights out a lot, even if these aspects are subtle.
*Nice to see the return of Jer as Captain Combo. After his strange shift to Detective Netdeck for the GP, I was worried these traits would suddenly start resetting from episode to episode.
*At the start of this season, with the addition of Cam to the cast, I commented on a desire for Cam to get a clear player-type established. I think it is safe to say he is now securely the group's hardcore CONTROL player, to the point of being banned from EDH games (we have one of those in our group. Love him...but not in EDH! Ha.)
*Paul falling for Graham's pitch to trust him in the EDH game was a nice callback to "In Command" where Matt tricked Paul in a similar fashion.
*Speaking of Matt, I enjoyed James giving him a namedrop when explaining why he retired from Commander. If James thoroughly beats Matt at every format, will he be done with Magic? Hope not!
*Kathleen's failure to hum "Flight of the Bumblebee" was on parallel with Matt's failure to play "Ride of the Valkyries" in "In Command".
*Paul still can't seem to build his own EDH deck. Too many variables, I suppose!
*Kathleen, as always, is still in blue/black.
*Shoutout to the "totally intentional" Modern Masters cube. Nice.
All in all, excellent episode.
GRADE: A+
Oh no! We have to wait a whole month until our next episode!

Re: Friday Nights - Politics
Great episode, guys.
I, too, noticed the subtle Desert Bus references in this episode.
Also, I noticed when Kathleen said "He had it!" and "Way!" that in the background is the Invader Zim House Box Set. Seriously amazed to see something Invader Zim outside Deviantart and YouTube.
Oh, and that "You don't want to know" thing kind of reminds me of "Wait, all three? Even with the--?"

That was my exact thought. I remember Graham talking about Cam's combo in a LRRcast or TTC at some point, so even though Cam wasn't playing, that appears to be a real reference to Cameron's Commander style, too.

I love the commander episodes, wish they were longer though
I never got a chance to play a commander game but damn they look fun and almost make me want to buy magic cards again.
But what the hell is a cube!
