Hey, thought I would post this in the music thread! I was a guest host on an episode of That Thing You Like, where the "thing" you might have liked was Summer Jamz.

Oh man, you guys, I just rediscovered Dizzy Balloon. I haven't listened to them in years. Why haven't I listened to them in years?!

The release I'm most looking forward to right now is an unsigned band from the area, and all the members are still in high school, Atlas and Arrows, with I guess you'd call it an indie/folk sound. The singer, Madison Snipes, has a smooth smoky voice that certainly doesn't fit the usual teen pop princess mold, and Jett Hagerty provides some nice violin accents to the mix.

They've put out a couple of songs from the new recording sessions on their SoundCloud. The demos from earlier were already tasty, but the new songs are "radio ready" and show a sophistication and maturity you probably wouldn't expect from a trio of 16-year-olds.

"Hands" is an original, and "Young Folks" is a cover. I've listened to each of these far too many times over the past couple of weeks.

Remind me of 'Of Monsters and Men'. Who are awesome, by the way.

Jonathan Ian - Still Singing

Still singing

I wait for the day when you look back on your life
Did you do everything that you really wanted
Now picture me sitting across from you
And if I'm playing this now than I'm doing better than you

Still singing

I'm sitting established now with the years gone behind
Now look at yourself do you feel some resentment
You didn't have to choose between the words in your mind
The time that you spent on each and the love of your life

I don't mean to be a prick, but I know I am
I don't mean to be sorry, but I know I am
You could have been so much more than what you are right now
How is your ball and chain, I hope she's doing just fine
Because I know I'm not

What will happen now when you have to go home
The fights between the two kids and the wife you used to know
You set yourself up for the fall right from the beginning
Don't be mad at me now because I'm still singing

So this is your life my old friend
I guess I'll see you around my old friend
The most unique, nicest, and confusing individual you will get to know. Don't be stupid around me, that's my job.

I've been really digging Paramore recently...

When I was in college I paid very little attention to new music, but one of my friends gave me a compilation CD my senior year of songs from that year (2007). One of the ones I ended up liking was "Misery Business", but I didn't go check out any of their other material until a earlier this year.

I really like their rock material, but I've been really drawn into Still Into You -- it's so catchy! What really impressed me was seeing the video Haley took of her vocal take from that song; if you play that simultaneously with the original song, there are very few places you can hear a difference. She apparently did almost the entire song in only one take, with no autotune.

Guys, I cannot stop listening to Steam Powered Giraffe, lately. Both their regular albums are amazing and I can't wait to hear the live album (it's on my Hanuka list this year). They're an absurdly good time.

If you like steampunk, zany pop, beautiful bluesy rock, and the idea of robots invented only to play incredible music (and sometimes participate in ice cream parades and race on quesadillas) then you should really check them out.

Since seeing the utterly obscene and bonkers brilliant Filth at the cinema on Saturday, I haven't been able to get Billy Ocean - Loves Really Hurts Without You out of my head.

I'm learning to play
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbkBEWh5PIs

I can learn to imitate the vocals and the militry-style jig thing.

If I had a recording devicey thing and knowledge of music editing then I'd be able to start covering Gavin's other music.
I feel like there's an nice for that which urgently needs to be filled.

I've been very into Chap-Hop recently. Mostly Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer (asn Professor Elemental's music sounds a little flat to me). The very first Chap-Hop song I ever heard was Chap Hop History.

I'm quite looking forward to his 4th album (out next week) called "Can't Stop, Shan't Stop".

I felt the same for a couple of week, Fuzzy.

Once the synth hits (about 0:55), it begins to sound a lot like Mindless Self Indulgence's Shut Me Up.

Which lead me to discovering that MSI Kickstarted, and released, a new album this year, which I've been listening to a fair bit.

Still awaiting Within Temptation's new Album.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dy6MpsDPKts
is an amazing first single. It's miles ahead most of the other Within Temptation's other songs.

I hope their album has the same momentum. I have had experiences of buying an album based off 1 song and hating the rest of them (The Feeling's Together we are made. Leave me Out of it is the only good song on it).

Lately I've been listening to Ben Howard - pretty quiet acoustic stuff for guys who drink terrible beer and girls with ugly tattoos.

Downloaded the latest Crystal Fighters album on recommendation from a friend. They certainly aren't the type of thing I usually listen to, but the music is very upbeat and enthralling.

I'll be completely honest, I've started listening to She & Him recently. I love Zooey Deschanel's vocals on their second album (I've not given their third album much of a chance of late, though)
