Okay, tried PoE last night.
Not bad; not bad at all.
Looks like F:NV is going on hiatus again.

If their Walking Dead series is any indication (and everyone I respect on the matter says Wolf Among Us is even better), you are in for one hell of a ride!

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread
Finding PoE's talent trees continually strange.
I like, how when you know what you're doing, you're sort of planning a route across the board.
But when you're at the starting blocks, and looking at where you're going, it's a little daunting. I want a close-quaters aoe witch (which will have to be semi tanky) and there's tonnes of 'shield' related talents scattered all over. None are close enough to the Intelligence starting block.

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread
Maybe one of the other starting classes would have been better? There's no difference except the quest rewards and the appearance, so picking a class just means picking where in the tree you start.

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread
I'm playing a Shadow main and talent-tree wise it's fine.
But with the shadow I haven't seen anything that justifies a 'Roguey Mage'. I have seen the future talent 'drain mana/shield/life' on hit. So maybe that's why. I just feel *at the moment* I can cast stuff or whack stuff and there isn't any relationship between the two.
I simply rolled a witch excited with the breath of talents, and was overwhelmed.
Perhaps what class is better for that is a Paladin. I'm holding out for unlocking the Scion. The scion might be an interesting character.

Now that PSN is going to be a paid service with the PS4, does anyone know if it's going to stop being free on the PS3?

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread
I believe it's still going to be free, or at least I haven't heard anything different.
I think the reason that'll remain free is that it'll have less services then the PS4 version of the PSN, thus not justifying paying for it.

I actually teared up at the end of the last episode of Walking Dead. Legit!

So I got the FEAR games as an incidental in the Humble Bundle (I really only wanted Arkham City). What's the verdict? Are they worth a try?

FEAR 1 series? Absolutely astounding.
FEAR 2 onwards? Takes the horror out of it and it becomes a generic clone shooter.

So, I can stop after Perseus Mandate, then?
That's a bit of a shame, since the asymmetrical co-op in FEAR 3 seemed pretty interesting.

Yeah, you can definitely stop after that. And the co-op is pretty interesting but it's no longer a FEAR game as much as it is a co-op shooter that loses its horror value. Definitely not worthy of the name.

Well...I'll certainly play through FEAR 1, then. But I might also try FEAR 2 as a shooter, depending on how I liked the first series.

FEAR 3 actually seemed like a fairly solid shooter.
Also, if anyone wanted to know how much I dislike horror games, I found a good recent example in the ZombiU demo for Wii U. There's one point about halfway through where the lights just go out shortly after you've fallen into a basement filled with bodies. I think your 'scanner' thing does too. This was enough to make me go 'nopenopenope' and shut off the game.
I tried it again, this time facing the static creature. When I killed it, I tried to loot it, at which point it played a cutscene of it rising, screaming with a close-up, and going back on the ground. I paused, thought for a moment, and once again exited the game.

Re: Gaming General Chat Thread
Not sure if Path of Exile's 'death mechanic' is good or bad game design.
If you die in Path of Exile (on normal mode), you are forced-respawned at the neared camp/hub. The only way to get back to where you were is through way points and walking to the desired location (not every zone has a way point).
In less you had the forsight of 'placing' down a Town Portal with a Town Portal Scroll before hand.
(I don't know how long the portal lasts for).
I'm not sure if this is bad game design (a fine of wasting your time. Especially with zones respawning after 8mins of not 'being in them') or good (forces you to play cautiously and to pre-emptively use town portal scrolls as a safety-net).
One benefit is that, if you die deep in a dungeon, you're forced to fight through the dunegons all over again (if the time has ran out and you didn't use a scroll) and you get exp (thus levelling you up and maybe you'll be strong enough number-wise to not die next time).
DCing can be an issue. It's like dying. It forces you back to the nearest quest hub/camp. At least stuff don't respawn (like in Diablo 3) in less the time respawn thing is achieved.
+1 to offline Hack'n'Slash Dungeon crawlers I guess.
(I'm not even at the point in the game where I am even interacting with other players. If this game could be played on offline-only I wouldn't even notice).
I think Path of Exile seriously needs to add more to prevent DCing being frustraighting. Diablo 3 might respawn the zone, but at least it has a lot of check points. And when you log back into Diablo 3, it has a friendly portal to take you to your last check-point.
If I didn't like this game at all, I wouldn't be this annoyed.

So I'm on Assassin's Creed III now after going through the series. The control system is like taking your car in for service and getting it back only to find that the handbrake now switches on the windscreen wipers, the steering wheel changes gear and there's only one pedal for accelerator, brake, clutch and turning the radio on.

Kapol, I think you'll find ZombiU gets a lot less scary when you realize that none of them can step to you in a game of Rock-Paper-Cricket Bat.

The whole "high profile" / "low profile" thing always seemed a bit awkward.

Yeah but after four games' worth I kinda got used to it and was expecting to pick this one up and play it in exactly the same way.

I just 'finished' Game and Wario. It's... alright. It's not Warioware, but it's a decent game. The fact it's pretty cheap is a nice benefit. It seems a lot better if you play multiplayer though. The only really great single player game is Gamer.

Torn between obeying set 'builds' for Path of Exile and doing my own thing.
