In case people don't read the front page/blog here is LRR's post about the future of CheckPoint. http://loadingreadyrun.com/blog/2013/12 ... t-cleared/
I guess this means I need to go update the wiki with the official word . Worst. Reason. Ever.

Just reading this thread: I'm so happy that you all love CkPt so much!
I don't know what to say other than, we're not that sad about it? It's a bummer for sure, but it's somewhat liberating to have more time.
This will give us more time to work on YRR of LRR stuff, and it doesn't affect our bottom line very much so, we're kind of happy about more time.
This is not a reason to be angry at PA though, that I don't get. It's not like they made this decision lightly, and they've got to do what makes the most sense for them. It's just business, yo
AND: I'm sure we'll see CheckPoint rise again someday.
AS CheckPoint. We own that name.

Are you guys really calling it YRR of LRR? Because that is amazing/caused blood to come out of my eyes (verdict is pending on that).
Totally accurate, except for all the times I'm not.

Re: The end of PATV and PAR. Is this the end of CheckPoint?
I'm a little surprised that they're "shutting down" PATV since it's essentially just a platform for advertising videos... the videos themselves are hosted on youtube, so the bandwidth costs must be minimal, and the site had already built, so I can't imagine it takes much in terms of maintenance, other than actually posting the videos every day.... *shrugs* I guess it must be a branding thing. The brand wasn't bringing them much money, and they didn't plan to grow it, so they're getting rid of it. Makes business sense.
Hopefully this will mean:
1. all the people who watched Checkpoint will subscribe to LRR's youtube channel/bookmark the site and be more likely to see the rest of their content (I'm sure you guys will plug Youtube subscription/main site bookmarking in your last Checkpoint video wink wink nudge nudge),
2. LRR has time to do more cool stuff, and
3. sometime, in a year or two or three, if the time is right, Checkpoint could rise from the ashes completely divorced from PA's shadow and become a thing in its own right (which I think might actually be good for it; PA gives 3rd parties a guaranteed audience but I'm not convinced they're great at growing that audience; 9 months ago when Checkpoint first started being posted on Youtube [which means I have access to view numbers] Checkpoint was averaging 30k views per episode. Now they're averaging... 30k views per episode.).
"The Return of Checkpoint" (or "Checkpoint Loading... Save Restored!", as I'd call it) might bring the show some much-needed attention and maybe some kind of alternative revenue stream? I dunno but 30k views for a well produced video game news show when popular Things on my Head videos get 27k views... ¯\(°_o)/¯ makes no sense.

Re: The end of PATV and PAR. Is this the end of CheckPoint?
Well, that condition COULD still be considered "amazing", ex-Lurker.
And I know, G* - maybe it's the facet that I'm old, defeated and cynical, but I don't see this as a big 'wailing and gnashing of teeth' situation, either. It's over (in this iteration) but it'll be back - tWT, Ph & FD are all testament to your liking this format
One less thing to brighten up my Mondays, and I'll have to look to other sources for gaming news. Oh well.
Alex? I gather this was more an issue of ANYTHING being under the PA-banner necessarily drawing a portion M&J's attention and they wanted to stop splitting their efforts and attention (even in an oversight level) to focus on things more important to them.

Empath, it'll likely be replaced by moar streaming next year from the way Graham seemed to phrase it, including a potential live version of something like it. Which seems more cool to me anyways.
But yea, I didn't really watch Checkpoint. For some reason, PATV never appealed to me. Though now that I know it's on Youtube, I might go catch up on Extra Credits. I always liked them, but never watched that much on PATV for some reason.

...I'd be very surprised if Mike and Jerry had had anything to do with Checkpoint at all.
You could make that argument for Khoo, though.

Such a good show, but with more time LRR will be able to focus that much more of the YRRofLRR!

I did ask Graham about this on Twitter and he said there's some decent amount of work for PATV in terms of admin, advertising lineup, and backend maintenance. I would be surprised if it was much at all, but then again, that's always the kind of catch 22 of such things: If you're a small part of an operation, it's easy to trim you.
I'm sad to lose Checkpoint, still. I mean, I came to LRR with ENN, and to this day ENN/Checkpoint were my favourite things they did. I'm kind of doomed to disappointment on it.

I don't remember any ENN episodes being 22 minutes. They were like 5 to 7 minutes long, usually.Master Gunner wrote:My preference is still for the original, 22-Minutes style, ENN.

R.I.P Checkpoint. You were one of my favorite shows. I still love all the LRR content, but having checkpoint there every Monday was a nice thing.

Damn.
I was holding out a little hope that this wouldn't be the case. I'm not surprised, just a sad. It seems that LRR doing gaming news content is a bit cursed to short life.

Im not mad at Penny arcade, or anyone who works for that corporation, but im pissed off at loading ready run for this move. HOW DARE YOU!
You let Penny arcade, a company you have no control over, make a choice to refocus their brand? What the crap man and or woman, I thought you were better than that.
I will never watch another one of your videos, other than the rest of the desert bus repeat, cause I have already started that. well and season 11 because I paid for that so it would be a waste not to. I guess I have to watch the rest of season ten too because of continuity. But other than that, I wont watch any of your other videos cause im pissed. And I will watch Friday nights but Im supporting wizards by doing that not you!
Well feed dump doesnt count because I watch that for the hats, so I will still watch that but YOU DONT FORGET IM PISSED! Someone made a buisness decision that in some way affects your week and by extention my week, and why you had no ability to change it, you didnt alter its outcome GAH!
Im so pissed off, you are lucky its monday so I can watch an episode of unskippable, that always puts me in a good mood, If only LoadingReadyRun could put out a video series on another website the quality of unskippable, I might forgive you for this slight you clearly planned just to get back at me for not giving you any homelands packs.

This is the Internet; that was subtlety writ large.
Re: The end of PATV and PAR. Is this the end of CheckPoint?
Sad to see Checkpoint go. Sad to see PATV go. Sad to see PAR to go. Kind of happy I don't have have to care about Penny Arcade anymore. PATV and PAR were the only reasons I visited those sites again. They were the only gaming-related things left there.
I do hope Checkpoint will make the occasional return. I love Professor Piggleworth so much, it is very hard to say goodbye. At least I will always have his pin to remember him by.
Super glad to hear LRR isn't scrambling to replace the revenue stream. Very relieved, as a matter of fact.

Well, as I've already said, I'm a tiny bit sad to see CheckPoint will end, but not overly worried about anything. LRR & gaming news never seem to stay apart for long.
Curiously - WHEN will this stop? Start of 2014?
...um, have you got everything worked up to the finale already? Because here's a pretty absurd story you could use:
Minor, niche F2P game decides exhibit EVERY bad choice on 'freemium content' all at the same time.
(Seriously, mainstream news is going "Srsly? WTF!" )

The end of checkpoint baring "some other backer", will be at the start of 2014 yes.
