Brothers aren't so bad. At least you can give them back to your parents when they start driving you crazy. But that doesn't work with your own kids.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
I learned today that I have no idea how to say no to people. I got taken on vacation in the Dominican and I decided to browse the shops around the resort. Today, there were some extremely pushy salesmen trying to sell me stuff. One wanted to sell me jewelery. I said no, I don't have that much money to spend. But they all pushed and pushed until finally I gave one guy some money to take the stuff and go. I'm very frustrated now that I let myself get pushed into buying something I can't even use because I'm allergic to nickel. Especially since I'm very stressed about money right now.

Next time say: I need to go get some money. Leave and don't go back.

What if they reply "but what about your credit card?" ? It's actually happened to me once. Needless to say I told them off.

I always go on a big rant at them. "Do I LOOK like I have money?! And now you want to follow me to an ATM?! You can fuck off! Fucking having you snuggle up to me trying to see my PIN! See if you were to ask that to the wrong guy? You'd lose your fingers! Smarten up and take no for an answer!"
Only happened to me once! There will not be a second!

I'd just try to sell them something instead. One should always have something to sell.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
I hate my body. The last few nights, it's decided that it enjoys splitting up sleep times. So I'll go to sleep at about 10pm-12am, wake up at 4am, and then not be able to go back to sleep until 9-10am, finally waking up at 3-5pm. It's been a giant pain.
On the other hand... I've been dreaming, which is good.

I tried that and they said they would give me the item and I could come back later with money. Others asked me to show them my wallet to prove I didn't have any. Of course I'm too much of a pushover to lie or say no and leave.

I am drunk (or very tipsy), and it's somewhat unpleasant to me. Welp.

Personally, I would replace every word of any excuse I thought up with the word "no". There is no reason you have to act rationally or give reasonable excuses to someone trying to aggressively sell you something and bursting into a giggling fit while saying 'no' thirty times in oddly-cadenced succession only helps your case. After about ten 'no's, start to walk away, still saying 'no' and giggling. If they walk after you, it will not be for long.
I would say though, most importantly, don't get your wallet out.

Fayili, we've been meaning to have a talk to you about your drinking problem. This is an intervention. We all love you and we are very concerned for your well being.
We feel you're not drinking enough and your flammability levels is too low for a sustained burn.

The problem is the solution. Do more of that. Preferably safely and with friends.
I'm mostly helping!

My chemistry teacher told me that alcohol IS a solution.

Speaking of alcohol. I wish I could just curl up on the couch or in the tub with headphones on and a nice big glass of wine. Maybe with my books too.
Sadly I can't for another 90 minutes because I have to be responsible and keep an ear out for the baby.
But yet again, anyone want a 4 year old?

The storm has delayed IX's flight by two days. I am very angry.

I'd say "I'm not just a pretty face", but I'm not even that.

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
A new year's coming up and I'm seriously considering purging the friends lists on a lot of things. Basically if they haven't made an effort to have a conversation with me, they're out.
I get sick of looking at a large list thinking "Oh, I remember you! We never speak."
And then I start to worry that they'll get offended that I've trimmed the fat and they did want to speak to me but never got around to it. They're taking up space! If I can take a list of 200 down to a list of 20, I shouldn't have to feel guilt tripped.

Re: Street vendors
A great deterrent is "I'm with interpol, can I see your vendor's license?"
Also, my vent:
If you want to video-submit for a project, that's fine, I'm cool with that. But standard practice is to upload it to YouTube Unlisted, and send us the link... not to upload it to a file-hosting site uncompressed and then ask us to download it rather than view it online. The quality is only slightly better, and you're wasting a lot of my time. You better be a good actress...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules
Okay, we've got a pending storm - first they said it would hit on Monday and schools (and just about everything else) would end up closed, so I offered to switch shifts that day with a co-worker who's a mother (and would thus be able to stay home with her son, and then come in to work in the evening when her husband gets home from his job)...if it becomes necessary.
...that was a day ago; in the last 24+ hours, we've seen a myriad of changes to the forecast - it'd miss us completely nowait it'll hit on Sunday evening and clear up by dawn on Monday nowait it'll snow Sunday afternoon, then turn to rain overnight and keep raining/sleet/snowing on and off for another two days nowait it's going to be light flurries by midnight Sunday/Monday and we'll escape with a light dusting, etc. etc. ad nauseam.
So I have no fucking clue if I'm working Monday day or Monday night yet.
Oh, and since I work Sunday night, I *might* have to tell my pa to just drop me off and I'll call a cab to get home...maybe.
Dammit, why must something that can have such a serious impact on people and their plans be so inconsistent and staggeringly unpredictable?!?
*gives the finger to a cloud of tiny ice particles*
Oh, and recently, my 70-ish father has started listening to and enjoying (to the point of SINGING ALONG) to the same radio station as me.
This is a 'retro' station with 80's and 90's music - so it's not MY taste in music is changing; I remember him disapproving of my taste in music when I was younger...and now he's damn well singing along to the very same fucking songs he used to trash thirty years ago.
