Re: TTC - Catching Up
In the jund commander deck there is also a creature that when one of your creatures dies, it deals damage to target player equal to that creature's power. So there's that.
Re: TTC - Catching Up
Another important difference between Primal Vigor and Doubling Season is that Primal Vigor only applies to +1/+1 tokens, rather than all tokens. In addition to all the other broken stuff you can do with doubling tokens, it means your planeswalkers ETB with twice the normal number of tokens (which for a lot of them means you could play them and then ultimate them right away). Side note: Doubling Season does not affect the loyalty changes caused by using abilities, since those are considered costs.

Re: TTC - Catching Up
As I run all three doublers in a commander deck, I'm aware of their differences and interactions.
It goes like this:
Stack all three effects triggered by a token entering:
[Doubling Season][Primal Vigor][Parallel Lives]
[PL] resolves, two tokens are now entering.
[PV] sees two tokens entering, doubles to four tokens.
[DS] sees four tokens entering, doubles to eight tokens.
It's even better if they're 1/1s and you have Sigil Captain out. They each get eight +1/+1 counters.

Re: TTC - Catching Up
Paul i think the Mega cycle you think about is:
Kor Haven (Nemesis)
Teferi's Isle (Mirage)
Volrath's Stronghold (Stronghold)
Keldon Necropolis (Invasion)
Yavimaya Hollow (Urza's Destiny)

Re: TTC - Catching Up
Would it be possible to get a deck list for the snakemander deck? It sounds fun.
Re: TTC - Catching Up
just registered to ask the same thing as the above person, I run a seshiro snakes commander deck and would love to see a list, cause in mentions of it it sounds like we run a similar build: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/snaaaaakes-2/

Just wanted to say love your casual take on MtG, keep up the good work.
Also concerning Doubling Season; I think the main problem WotC has with it stems from the fact that it is from original ravnica block and thus pre Planeswalkers, this means that when it was created Planeswalkers weren't taken into account as a type of permanent. The fact that it doubles the number of loyalty counters that planeswalkers start out with makes it slightly broken and means it will probably never be printed in any standard legal product ever again. (Unless there is some weird rules change that changes this interaction in some way.) This is probably part of why they made a card like Primal Vigor so they can still have a similar style card available to them. Of course they could still print it in products/decks that are not standard legal because bigger card pools make it less of an issue.

Re: TTC - Catching Up
The other Grixis General is Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge and she is busted as all hell, I have a commander deck that uses things like mystical and personal tutor to put enter the infinite on top of my library and then haste out Jeleva (You can only cast the spell for free when you attack) and then win with lab maniac and draw spells, its fun to play, less so to play against.
