I was hoping I could catch this before I slept. :)

ETA: Yummies Corp! I would play this game. Also, I love that I knew we were about to cut to Paul when you introduced the Chess Mega-Grand Master.

People in the DB chat have been talking about whether you guys know about this or not: http://ludemegames.com/chess2/
God, that sounds awful. I mean, it may be a decent game, but it's not chess anymore.

Easily my favourite video so far this year. Delightfully old-school LRR, but made with your modern talents.

Seems like it would be a good companion to Viking Secret Wildcard Poker. I hope the rules include giga-kings being immune to pit traps. There's no way they'd fit down that own square hole!

I think the 'King moves across the midpoint, you win' rule is brilliant. The rest of it is too radical.

Weren't you content enough with your strictly better poker, do we need strictly better chess too :)
So what's the bet, when will the rules be on the wiki? Tuesday?

This was what I thought when I saw the video.

In all honesty though, I haven't checked the rules just yet, but I don't think Chess 2 is that terrible. Is the name Chess 2: The Sequel a bit presumptuous? Maybe, but I bet they don't really believe they "fixed" chess and it's just to draw some eyeballs. It also kind of adds to the charm I feel.

I'm always puzzled when no one tries to tweek the old classics. I've been considering basically writing sequels to Greek mythology and continuing on where they left of.

EDIT: Love the sketch btw :P. Very cool A9 Intro too. Reminded me of our own News intro round here.

I... I would genuinely like to playtest that, and see just how mental the game went.

I don't think Chess 2: The Sequel is pretentious - it's hilarious. Imagine if someone produced Mona Lisa 1.1.

Also, I find it interesting where the idea to Chess 2 came from - I knew Chess was kinda stale, but I didn't know it was that bad: 60% of professional games ending in draws is a gigantic red flag.

Im pissed, the multiball just breaks the game and peices start to gain random resistances if you hit it with a pawn while your rook is in new check while its on level 3 if you have a fire resist card played on your knight.

Come on... that should have been caught in QA. This is worse than the pistol in Halo.

Its the bow tie that does not. It should be noted I watched The Check Mate Crapshot immediately after watching the video which may have left the impression of a non existent connection.

Between this and the return of the Warriors last week, the fanservice ante does appear to be creeping up in the YRR or LRR. That's a comment not a complaint.

I'm anxiously await the next update which is rumored to introduce character sheets for each of the pieces and monetary transactions to recruit more pieces into the game.

I've played chess for almost 30 years now. I would love to see these changes made, it might get me excited about the game again!

I loved how it just kept getting more and more complicated and ridiculous. I also want to read the patch notes to find out exactly what the Multiball does...

Does 4.5.2 include the long-anticipated Viking Secret Wildcard Poker integration? Or was that pushed back to 4.5.2a?

Yeah, the basic opinion that chess needs patching is genuinely not crazy at all. Chess 2 just goes too far in my opinion, and should have stopped with the 'king crossing halfway' rule. That alone would fix most of the problems, I think.

You guys are still playing Chess? That game's been unplayable since they added that ridiculous "diagonal movement" crap back in 3.2.7. I switched to checkers the day after the announcement and never looked back.
