Well, speaking from a girl's point of view I would regard that as "might or might not be true" I guess you won't know if she'll consider it creepy or not unless you message her. Chances are she will not text you back but you might be surprised. So go for it.

Personally I would like receiving a text back. However I wouldn't like the "I've always wondered what could have happened" because it puts a lot of pressure. You should probably go "Hey, just received that text from 2010 when getting a new phone. Are you still (her name)? What's up?" or something like that. Then she'll let you know if she wants to talk or meet or whatever.

I would agree with Avistew here, a nice message about you just having recieved her message expressing more ammusement and sounding more of "hey, long time no see, let's catch up" is the way to go here. The "what could have happened" angle sounds the creepy alarms in my reptilian brain though...

Honestly, I wouldn't expect someone who got sidetracked to still have my number. I guess nowadays it's easy to keep numbers on your phone (my husband got a new phone and tried to sort his contacts; tons of them, he hadn't talked to the person in 5-10 years) but I still have the reflex of thinking if someone isn't interested, they'll delete my number right away.

Not just that; a study done a few years ago found that in some people (predominantly women) more pleasure receptors are fired off in the brain from a piece of dark chocolate than from a passionate kiss.
