I...I finished Top 8 in an event today. I'm pretty sure Magic has jumped the shark now.

=D

We get some silly counterspell wars going on in my LGS at EDH tables.

I miss counter wars. They were awesome back in the day when you had really weird ones like Power Sink. Now, barely anyone I know plays blue. Sadly, those days have been replaced by Voltron contests.

If you play Vintage or Legacy you get to see plenty of Force of Will and such, so there you go I guess.

Well, it's more for anyone I play against, and I'm just in Casual. I have money, and I buy a lot of good cards, but I am nowhere near the bankroll for Vintage/Legacy.

I have an EDH deck that's about 40% counter-magic. It's apparently fun to play against; I get requests to run it at Commander pods occasionally. Venser's the General, and it has no win condition, unless 21 commander damage with a 2/2 is a win condition.

I built it in response to the guys at our store running all of the infinite combos. When I brought up how unfun their decks were to play against, the answer I got was basically "run more counterspell."

So... the 'spoiled' Dack Fayden turned out to be real. I'm actually pretty surprised.

So, what formats will he be legal in then? Modern and older? I wonder id he'll see any play?

Legacy, Vintage, and EDH. They don't normally make non-standard sets modern legal. And I hear a ton of people think he's going to be mainboarded in Vintage, and sideboarded in legacy.

Yeah, he'll be legal in eternal formats, like cards printed in other "supplemental" products, like the Commander pre-cons, and the like.

Also, I'm a little disappointed. In the comics, Dack Fayden steals artifacts, studies them, learns the spells that makes them work, and then returns them. For full flavour it should be "-1: Put a token onto the battlefield that's a copy of target artifact an opponent controls". But then, I guess they wanted the card to be good, instead.

Then make it a 0 ability. I don't think it'd be too weak or broken since he has pretty low loyalty and is cheap.

The -2 is decent in legacy with Batterskulls and Jittes floating around, but I'm not sure he'll make the cut in legacy, honestly. Sideboard space is tight as is, and you'll want much less narrow cards. The looting is nice, but the decks that can really use the looting would rather run Faithless Looting or Careful Study.

In vintage, though, he's got much more potential. The biggest issue there is that not many people play vintage at all.

I am rather pissy about the whole Dack Fayden thing as someone who basically exclusively plays on MTGO, my understanding is the conspiracy isn't going to be released on MTGO so I won't get to play with him. Very pissy indeed.

Select Conspiracy cards will feature in Vintage Masters in June/July so he will be expensive but be accessible. I'm fairly sure Dack is an auto-include.

Well Jitte, yeah, cause you can leave it on the creature and get to use the abilities, but taking Batterskull won't take the germ token, so it's not as good unless you have a creature of your own.

It allows you to remove the germ and they can't bounce and replay it, though, which is very relevant.

That isn't how I understand it, if you gain control of an equipment that is attached to an opponent's creature then it remains attached to that creature until it dies or until you equip it to someone else. Its actually a really cute play in some voltron decks i have seen that run blue, run Puca's mischief and swap control of the voltroned up enchantments for stuff, sure they are now controlled by someone else but that doesn't matter as it is still attached to your creature

Correct ArchieO. If you take the Batterskull, they'll still have a germ with a (your) Batterskull attached. Which really isn't much better that before you did that.

I think their saying that if you steal the Batterskull and remove the germ, then they can't re-equip it, or bounce and replay it (though you can't bounce it either, since it'll just go to their hand).

Sorry, is nobody else paying attention to the fact that his ultimate is "every spell you have is now control magic"? Because that's pretty neat as planeswalker ultimates go.

Also his +1 screams for inclusion in a Nekusar deck.
