Things with wheels.

Postby Under13 » 28 Jun 2007, 11:51

Everytime I see this car, my heart does a little pitter-patty thing.

But wait. Those rims look a little...overkill...for a 60-hp restored Ghia...

Image

HOLY SHNIKEYS!

The Karmann Ghia is probably one of my all-time favorite cars, though I prefer the pre-1960 version with the blades instead of the grills.

But that one is fucking gorgeous! Asten Martin eat your heart out!

I gotta say, I've always kinda had a thing for whale-tails, too. Must've been overexposure to all the lead paint in my HotWheels as a child...

Americans know the (now no longer) holden monaro as the Pontiac GTO. This is the HSV (holden special vehicles) version of it. So it's like monaro but better.

The Karmann Ghia is one sexy car. And I'm not a car guy at all.

One of my Dad's friends used to have a fire-red one that he drove until the floor rusted out. Poor thing...

Apparently, Chip Foose. But it was formally a Plymouth / Daimler-Chrysler product, and quite possibly the only "American" car I've ever seriously wanted to own. I nearly wept when I heard that they were being discontinued...

I have an undying, unhealthy desire to own or build one of these...

"Christine" wasn't really a Fury, at least not in the movies. She was 23 Plymouth Belvederes, Furies, and Savoys, all painted and customized to a trim level and colour that was consistent across none of them. Apparently it's easiest to start with a '57 or '58 Belvedere, since it's got the little chrome winglets and the right style of bumper, but ya gotta get the red/white paint job and red/black interior as custom jobs.

There are four of the "original" Christines left, all in private hands - one of them is for sale (completely restored from being a stunt car) to the tune of 189,999USD. Yowza.

Oh man. MAN. Matt. You need this.

I just found a Japanese company that will take a modern BMW and overhaul it into a retro monster. Start off with a BMW Z3, put it through the Dusen Bayern Mystar machine, and it will spit out a Mercedes 190 SL.

I can only imagine what this could would be like to drive with an M donor...
