Admiralmatt, when the server comes back up, thought I should let you know, I'm trying to build a bridge from my house to yours, but I don't know where to connect it, so it's just kinda hanging out over the water. Let me know where I should take it towards (or if you want to get at it, most of the materials are there).

Well, someone decided to loot Lurkon's Lair. I've fixed SOME of the damage but I'm not sure what the extent of the damage IS yet. I am really not happy.

Is that why there was water flowing over some chests? My and AxelPheonix noticed that a few days ago (we went over to the villagers), and I meant to ask about that, but forgot.

Man.... that's not cool. Perhaps time to put minimum time limits for forum accounts and confirmation that you own a forum account?

Once a group gets wind of a server they can get easy authentication on they will come in waves.

Also possible there's another moron still out there doing this.

Yeah... I'm thinking of shaking things up once 1.8 comes out, but not sure how, exactly. I know there will be less server strain once it doesn't have to refresh the buff every 3 seconds, so it won't be "There's someone new! Scramble before the server craps out from refreshing constantly!"

I think maybe we should just start fresh with authorizations? Wipe the slate and come in renewed?

Meaning we just have to all get reaurhorized? It would help make space for people who haven't been on in a while

could you make the server white list with requests having to be posted here?

Hosk: I could, but I thought it'd be nice to have a way to tour the server without being able to affect it. That way, you could view things like Templemir or the Trousers without needing "build rights" at all. The current system (which is both headache-inducing and apparently ineffective to curb ALL griefing) was intended to do that. However, when I created it, I failed to consider the server strain constant updates would cause.

"Spectator Mode" could easily solve both of those issues when 1.8 comes out.

I can go back to whitelist and we can just have our little elitist club, if that's what people want, though.

I think that might be best at this point is to limit it to forum users. To much griefing :(

Even with the plethora of plugins we had on dewcraft, one could never stop griefing completely.

We had an application system with a number of questions (ours was open to the general public). If they failed to prove they weren't just dumb, they were immediately rejected. Even then, people can easily get through. We had plugins that restricted certain blocks, tracked stuff, etc. They still griefed. Even when they knew it would be reverted immediately, they still did it.

As much as we can limit it to true LRR fans the better. This isn't a minecraft server. This is a game server for LRR fans that happens to run minecraft. Whatever we can do to limit it to those people the better.

Well, there's no way to grief if you're in Spectator Mode, that I can think of. The worst you could do is spam/flame chat.

But for "build rights" Dew's plan might be a solution.

Hey Memo, I wanted to apologise for the rail situation, but thought I'd leave it a while so as not to inflame things. I didn't have a chance to investigate and I'm sure it wasn't all my handiwork, but your response was fair anyway. Don't think I'll be coming back in a while, but wanted to make clear that the bits that were mine weren't built in order to grief you.

Hope 1.8 comes soon.

Considering 1.8 is only about a week away, maybe make it while-only for now, to give you time to set up the new authorization system.

As for new players, I think the mods just need to make sure the player isn't just a random person who heard about the server on Twitch. Having a forum thread where players have to request access might help with that.

Yeah, I wanted to talk to you about that. (It totally slipped my mind recently that I did that.) This isn't a permaban, but simply a "We need to talk" issue. So, we need to find a time when we can talk things through in-game.

This is a perfect example of why things should be discussed with me/Mods before they are implemented. This is too much work to manually revert, and I can't just reset the chunks, and there's a good portion of it that I actually like, so picking through all of this is going to take some time. When you have that time, let me know and we'll talk.

And as for everyone else, please, please, please talk to me. I like to know what's going on, so I have the big picture of the whole server, which I've easily lost track of when people have done things in secret. Thus, when making decisions, they're not based on accurate information, and can run into problems. I've accidentally deleted people's builds due to misinformation and miscommunication before.

Found a zombie spawnwer and build an XP farm around it a while back, and started building a railway for it, intending to connect it to the local rail station once a line gets to me. Wanted to confirm that A) That's still okay, and 2) I've been building it in an style acceptable for the railway. The XP farm is at roughly <X=251 Y=28 Z=1911>, current construction terminates at roughly <X=230 Y=51 Z=1881>, and the location I proposed for the station (which I'm still happy to build myself if allowed) is <X=239 Y=63 Z=1860>.

If not, I'll tear it down myself and build something self-contained for the spawner.
