If you're in Norwich, pop into the Norwich Union reception in Surrey Street, and ask to see Adam Brown (me), they'll take you to SS-2, and you can have the grand tour ^_^

The people here think I'm American, which is sad. But when I explain that I'm Canadian, they love me.

Nothing against Americans in general but the ones that visit the UK are ill mannered, bad tempered, expect everything for nothing, wastes of space (lots of space, if you catch my meaning) that i presume left some very relieved colleagues/neighbours back in Yanksville to come over here... Dicks.

If you're planning on venturing up past London before heading down to Wiltshire (you can't go anywhere actually near Stonehenge btw, it's uber protected by about a million yards in all directions... teh suck) to the Cambridge area, drop in at the Imperial War Museum Duxford. I can get you in for free! Just ask for MA James Jennings. I'll be bored out of my skull and would enjoy the company. It's my job to talk to visitors anyway so no one can have a go at me for it! Yay!

Well, what I've heard is that basically Americans are the worst tourists in the world. Walk down the street screaming and yelling, pointing at everything, staring, etc.

Personally I would never do that, so I think being an American in the UK would be fine, or at least I would hope. Besides, I'm not going to lie about being an American, I'm proud of it, just not proud of what all of us do while we're not in our homeland...

I can admit that being American in Europe does suck, cuz we can be dicks. Personally, though, we don't understand certain things about the British (case in point: warm beer and baked beans with every meal), but instead of asking for explanations, we just act out and say that it's messed up.

I have friends who were stationed in England for a few years, and they go back all the time. What I like about their trips is they can bring back some pretty sweet stuff, like a sampler pack of all Cadbury chocolates. We may have beaten you in the Revolutionary War, but your Cadbury chocolate dominates (though Hershey's chocolate bought IN Hershey, PA, is really fresh and tasty).

Beer is *supposed* to be warm. Americans started chilling it only when people started making beers again after Prohibition was repealed, and they'd gotten out of the habit of making it - it tasted so bad that it had to be chilled for people to tolerate it.

While we're at it, other Englishy drinks that aren't paticularly tasty: English breakfast tea. Too strong.

Nothing better than a nice strong cup of tea.
There's lots of different types of tea though so you'd have to specify, 'cos i'd agree that some tea is mank... Earl Grey for example.

I like my lager cold btw. Next time you're here have a Guiness from a tap in someones local, now that's proper bitter.

We the British are softly spoken as a nation anyway (well most of us), so when you guys from the states are saying HOW GREAT EVERYTHING IS or how BACK IN UTAH you GET A REAL MAN'S SIZE BURGER to us it sounds like you're freaking screaming your lungs out. >_<

Maybe it's quite loud over there i dunno. Or maybe we've adapted to the horribly shoddy PA systems in train/bus/tube stations and therefore need to stay relatively quiet to work out what's being said.

oo we have. ever actually tried to listen to every word the PA guys says? im pretty sure its along the lines of
'mmurmurmurmur track are nacker'd, cant be arse to say sorry fer delay..'

anyway, delays are just a part of british life in london. We just get aother bus and go to the boots on Tottenham Court Road.

Americans sue, british go back to the manufactures and say 'listen, your car just blew me up and took my legs. Can i have another please that works this time? ah! wooden legs, thank you my good man. Storm in a tea cup and all that, you know'

...im nto proud of being an imperial british type person.... >.>

I went to London.
That was fun.

Spent far too much money on clothes though.

Went to Stonehenge.
That was fun too!

I got pictures.
And such.

Then as I was getting some food after meandering around the 'henge, and plotting on how I could break in in the middle of the night, and romp about on the stones, I was nibbling on a lovely sandwich, and I hear, 'WHERE THE FUCK IS IT?!' 'YOU ARE SHITTING ME. WTFWTFWTWF.' I looked over, only to find an American family, all of them, dad, mum, grandfather, and older sister, yelling at this 12 year old boy, because he lost his wallet.

It was the saddest thing I'd ever heard. He was crying while he looked for it, and the family left him, and went on the tour. I wouldn't want that to be the memory of when my family went to Stonehenge.
Sad.

And on the topic of Americans being loud and assholic while travelling, and people loving Canadians, to quote my uncle who was horribly drunk at the time, 'Canadians. People must love you. You have beavers, and beer, and maple syrup. And you're so polite. And people LOVE YOU. Fuck. I love you.'

I'll bet Kate really regretted pickpocketing that little boy once they started screaming at him.

I really hope that's not how the rest of the world sees Americans. Actually, I really don't blame them. BUT! Was the family obese? That would just put the cherry on top...

Truer words were never spoken.

Yes, Americans are loud obnoxious people... no wait, thats just stereotyping based on our large cities. Seriously, when we get excited, we do get louder, but I like to think that we just want to be heard. Like Frankenjam said, we are prous to be Americans here, but it doesn't mean we are proud of our country and its choices. For example, see the story of the Pendleton 8, who killed an innocent Iraqi civilian in cold blood because they had to kill a terrorist, guilty or innocent. Bastards.

So when I go traveling overseas, which part of Canada should I claim to be from? :)

I've been to Canada twice now, and it may have just been the places I was visiting, but I did notice that overall everybody seemed to be very polite and everything was clean. Seriously, even the people at the Windsor Casino made us throw away our cups before leaving the building. I was impressed.

When traveling, I think it's important to learn, and understand, any cultural differences. If you are going somewhere that speaks a different language, I think it's important to learn a few phrases, and take a translation book with you. If someone came up to me, and started speaking Spanish, like he automatically assumed I'd spoke Spanish, I'd walk away. But if he came up to me and tried his very best English to get directions etc. I'd be more than happy to help. And I think that that's the biggest problem with Americans in other countries, they don't respect the culture or the people (In general anyways. I understand there are exceptions.)

For some really obscure reason... well maybe not really obscure... really obscure is like "because a moose farted in my rucksack"... but for a mildly obscure reason, american comedians really suck. American comedy just slips over my head. But Canadian comedy, for a country so close to america, is hilarious.

So answer me this.

Why?

(And I am basing this more than just on LLR)

Insanly, but really, due to the latge body of water between us, shouldn't the canadians be different to the english, rather than the most similar nation to the english in the world.

Even the welsh, a country bolted on to england at the last minute are more diverse than the canadians when it comes to aglo-similarities.

Gathered most of my family live there.............

BUT STILL

Its a flipping long way away

Compare the Boston Tea Party to the Victoria Tea Party.

Boston: throw tea overboard because of the rediculous taxes put upon it.
Victoria: huge ass carnival/celebration of British-type behaviors

We may be closer in Geography, but we are farther away in spirit.

I think all comedy is great, so it's cool to me.
