Not currently, but I can.
Let me get the map fixed first.

For my part, I've been crazy busy and the closure of the LRRcraft server has been a blessing in disguise.

But since I'm here, and Memo is still working on server cleanup, I'll mention this again: that ENTIRE area centered around the abandoned place at ~3090,1860 is, as far as I know, uninhabited. That was my old place and I don't think anyone else lived anywhere close.

It's a whole big old island of land that's safe to erase but still on map.lrrcraft.com, so I assume it's still there. Seems like an easy delete to reduce server strain.

Ed: island in the sense of being disconnected from the rest of the map. Not island as in 'surrounded by water'.

As much as I hate to ask, how is that going?

It's actually going well, now that I have free time to DO it during Desert Bus. I've got a better handle on it and might be doing a full re-render in the next few days. Already have a few minor changes on the map.

1.8.1 pre-5 is now out. 1.8.1 should be out Monday. I know you said you wanted LRRCraft up before 1.8.1 came out, so that's 5 days I guess (though I'm sure most of us won't mind if you miss that date). :P

I don't even really remember what I said. After I heard 1.8 had significant RAM problems with rendering, I may have wanted to wait for 1.8.1 instead.

you know I was thinking, how hard could it be to make a desert bus game in minecraft? I have no working knowledge of redstone so I could be talking something near impossible.

Given my understanding of the Desert Bus game itself, it seems like it would be a long stretch of rails with widely spaced powered rails. Most would be powered by torches, but others would be hooked up to buttons which would have to be pressed as you approached in order to keep moving.

I'm sitting here thinking buttons on the side of the "road" connected to those tracks that can switch directions upon activating redstone. If you don't hit the button, it curves you to the right. If you do, it sends you straight. Just chain that, and it should be good.

And remember, it has to last eight hours. :)

Rather than using rails you could have the player walk, and periodically use command blocks to rotate their direction slightly, which essentially forces the player to hold forward and occasionally correct their heading.

I think it might also be possible to teleport the player back to the start every so often to simulate the endless desert landscape instead of actually building 8 hours worth of road. Depends whether you're able to use McEdit or similar instead.

Wasn't there something in 1.8 involving infinite hallways that would be useful?

Is there a projected return date for the server?

Sorry. No, other than "Probably 8 hours after I get some time and energy to really crack down on it." Little chips here and there haven't been making serious progress so far, unfortunately. I really should've done this last year, before LRL and everything else caused it to get well out of hand. :(

And I'm feeling really bad about doing this to everyone. It's making me depressed, which isn't helping, either. :(

Take however long you need, Memo. While I miss the server, I can wait until you've finished doing whatever it is you need to do to get back on it. Anyone who needs their Minecraft fix that badly can probably find another server until you're done, if they haven't done so already.

Quick check of 1.8.1...

Slowdown bug still appears to be rampant, but I had to start a new offline world (my friend's server was down)... so it may not be a valid test.

I just got fired, so I'm pausing the server to save time while I'm not actively working on it. Until I have the server fixed up, this is hardly relevant to anyone, though. I don't think many people were using the IRC or the website anyway.

Ouch! It's never pleasant to hear when somebody gets the axe (to be honest, I've been on the block a couple of times recently, but my bosses aren't willing to pull the trigger... yet).

As for the server, just take your time... I know it takes a lot of effort to run & without the game server running, the only thing worth catching on the web server is the world map itself. IRC just seems too quiet to keep running or at the very least could be moved over to Chatspike or another public IRC server as needed.

Just make sure you're OK first, then we'll deal with the server(s) when you have time.

Well, it's not like I didn't see it coming. I could've probably prepared for it better, though.

Flip side: It'll give me plenty of time to work on the server, if I'm up for it. You can only do so much CraigsListing per day. :)

Regarding the IRC, yeah. It was mainly just in use to keep the Mods notified of important things on the server that required attention, without them needing to be on the server itself.

Man, that sucks Memo, hope you get something going soon.

I look forward to playing on the server once more, but life sorting out must take a priority, good luck!
