RIP Ralph Baer

Father of the video game industry passed away at 92. Invented the 'Brown Box' which would become the Magnavox Odyssey, the first video game console. His work would give Nolan Bushnell the idea to make the first arcade machine and found Atari. He also invented the first light gun.

Why did I never know about this man when he was alive? I would have made every effort to thank him for his work :(

Here's another one I only discovered until recently - Jerry Lawson, invented the Fairchild Video Entertainment System (VES) better known as the Fairchild Channel F. First Afro-American to design a games console. First console to use a microprocessor, first console to allow a player to play against the system itself, had the first pause button and first to use interchangeable ROM carts.

Baer's work "gave Nolan Bushnell an idea" in the same sense an inventor gives a thief an idea.
