Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Hopefully, soon back at LRRcraft. With the free time, I've been able to make progress on it. I was hoping to have it up as a Christmas gift, but that failed to happen.

Yeah, I was working on that with Anaerin, but that got stuffed to the wayside, unfortunately.

I've been playing on a local server. Trying to go outside my comfort zone and make some new things, learn some new tricks and designs.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
I've, sadly, have gotten away from Minecraft due to a sudden slowdown bug affecting my system that happened starting with 1.8 (see previous posts about it)...
I've been getting a bit more into my Steam library in the meantime.

Any update on this? I would consider getting back into Minecraft after I'm done with Dragon Age: Inquisition (still quite a ways, though).
I've been watching some of James streaming and the crazy mods seem to breathe a lot of life into the game which got stale for me years ago. Maybe set up a mumble server to go with it?

I am hoping I'm not sick tomorrow so I can work on it.
Not sure about Mumble, but the server does have TeamSpeak 3.

Any chat server is fine. I'm just familiar with Mumble. Hope you're feeling better. Everyone at work has been sick or is sick. It seems worse this year than last.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Update: I'm actually finally making progress again. (Finally since September.) After about 3 hours, I got the SouthEast and SouthWest sections done, as well as a little bit of the NorthEast, and some of the direct South. Just slow progress of between 700 and 1500 chunks at a time. I'm a bit beat currently, so I'll get back to it after today's streaming and tonight's/tomorrow's MtGO PreRelease.
Also, I'm going to work on a Patreon to help fund the server, since the deadline of how much crowd-funding we already have is coming up in 3 months (if it's ready by then; I've got a year and a half of time if it stays on its current archive mode for a while).

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
Progress is slow, but coming along. I've deleted around 10,000 unnecessary chunks so far, and continuing. They'll regenerate, along with the resources within them, so you can do more exploration and mining for good stuff.
I did find an interesting chunk that had a cave with somewhere around 4000 monsters in it somehow. (I suspect a combination of darkness and a nearby spawner, along with people walking around on the surface causing it to keep being loaded.) That totally didn't help server performance, and it's gone now. Glad to have caught it.
What I plan to do is to do the trim, then do a render. I'll leave it up for two weeks just in case I screwed something up, so I'll have the ability to roll it back. If something's missing within that two weeks, I'll be able to restore it. Then, I'll open it up for general play. If something's messed up past those two weeks, I'll do my best to restore it, whatever way I can.

good to hear things are coming along nicely!
boy that would have been an interesting challenge. I wonder how long someone would last against 4000 mobs,

Will keep working on the South for a while, until I hit the more-populated areas.... Will then switch to East... Then North following that... West and Center will be the toughest, in their own ways, but probably won't need much trimming.

I'm not entirely sure I follow what's going on, but when I'm back from vacation in two weeks, it sounds like I might be able to play around on a Minecraft server.

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
I am finally getting around to fixing the map so there isn't as much 1.6/1.7 unused land around. Once the chunks are deleted, they'll regenerate as 1.8 chunks with all the new features.ecocd wrote:I'm not entirely sure I follow what's going on, but when I'm back from vacation in two weeks, it sounds like I might be able to play around on a Minecraft server.
This way, you won't have to go as far to find the new stuff, so the map won't be huge. Having a larger map plays poorly on server resources, so it's either keep the map small or increase the amount of server resources, which means more money. The latter happening will depend on how generous the community is.
Also, I'm saddened to say that I accidentally deleted part of someone's rail tunnel. Someone over to the East (SouthEast?) with an underwater base had a tunnel that I thought was part of an abandoned mineshaft. Up-side, I only deleted 1 chunk of it, so the owner only has to re-dig 16 blocks. (I'll do it, if pressed.)

Re: LRR Minecraft Server
By the way, are you planning to set a barrier to the world once you're done deleting unused chunks? It seems like an excellent way to stop the world getting too large and prevent this kind of headache in the future.
