Just farted as I had a cough. This resulted in a coughing fit.

hursday: Lose my phone. Do not realise this
Friday: Miss my alarm, which is normally on my phone. Am late into work as a result
Friday evening: Go out for a beer with some Normannis guys, which is apparently enough to set my IBS off something awful. Spend all night groaning and in pain, and get no sleep
Saturday: Go refereeing. Since I've had no sleep and am dehydrated, it goes shit.

I've now got a phone on order, but I'm utterly knackered and £100 out of pocket to boot. So bleh

I get the feeling today is not going to be a good mental health day...

The other half was telling me last night about how was he going to probably be meeting up with his phlebotomy course buddies Friday, and that's great. He has a really hard time making friends and is incredibly solitary / introverted. So the fact he's making an effort to go be social with people is really good for him, I'd say.

But, of course, me being me ... my anxiety kicks in and I start acting kind of weird about the whole thing. I felt so bad about it I ended up texting him to explain things in the early hours of this morning.

...I'm afraid. Afraid of being discarded and neglected like I have been before. Afraid that, with everything else he has going on right now, we'll stop being a priority to him.

And I feel so fucking stupid for it.

He isn't like that. I KNOW he isn't like that and that he loves me. Yet I get myself so fucking worked up that I just ... uggggggggh.

I just really hope he doesn't take the message I sent wrong. It's not too much to ask to be reassured that you'll still be a priority to someone and be kept in the know, right? .... Right?

Not at all - long distance is tough. It's hard hearing your significant other is off doing social things that make them unavailable to you for a while, and that you would probably like to be with them for. I went through that a couple times early in my relationship, where my girlfriend would hang out with her friends just after I'd been visiting her. Even though I knew I shouldn't be upset by that, it was hard when I didn't hear from her for a good chunk of the day, and when I did, I heard about them hanging out and wished that I'd stayed just a couple days longer so I could have joined in.

But the thing with the situation we find ourselves in is that we can't get greedy. Yes, we're not going to be together for every moment we'd like to, but both sides also need to maintain their normal lives, to continue to enjoy things on their own. It's really easy to fall into the trap of leaning on your partner for happiness, which they should definitely help with, but they can't be the only source or times like that become really difficult.

And trust me, if you say you know he isn't like that, and from what you've said in the past I don't think he sounds unreasonable, he won't hold it against you. He'll understand that everyone likes to be wanted, to be important, and you're just coming off of a three week high of spending time together. It's natural to get a bit jealous and wish you were back together. He'll almost certainly understand that your feelings stem from how strongly you feel about him and that you miss being together. And I'm sure he'll reassure you that of course you'll be important, because it's pretty clear the two of you are good for each other. You're absolutely not asking too much by saying that you just want to hear about what's going on in his life when you can't be there, and that even though the two of you have to lead physically separate lives right now, you still want to be a big part of each others' day.

Anyhow, I hope that makes some kind of sense, because I'm really tired and it's been a long day. :P

That does make sense, Jam. Thank you. :)

I guess ... with this being the first major, serious relationship for the both of us ... I'm still trying to work out the ground rules, you know? And I hate feeling so anxious over something that feels so silly.

I think what probably hasn't helped is that we've both been super stressed lately. So I just worry that he'll take it the wrong way cos of that but we'll see.

It just makes me feel like a bit of a hypocrite cos I see my friends a couple of times a week and he doesn't bat an eyelid. Yet the second he talks about making plans with people I end up like this, you know?

uggggggggh.....

I completely empathize with what you're saying, it sounds remarkably like what I went through. I know saying this can't put you in a better headspace on its own, but these are skills that you have to learn as the relationship progresses. I'm not at the point I always find myself in the right place mentally, but it's a lot easier than it used to be to look at things logically not inflate a problem in my mind.

Basically, I know it's tough, but you're not a bad person for feeling that way, and you'll learn how to cope with it as time goes on.

Feeling shit. Trying to work out why. I was after my mum told me that I was going to have to work voluntarily full time very soon.

Sad I don't feel like I can talk to my parents.
Sad I don't have any human near me I can talk to.

It'll pass. It always does. But, :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(::(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I just went back to check - have they *still* not figured it out, empath?

I worked it out.

My mum (unknowingly) just assaulted my happy-go-away-for-enjoyment trip. I am trying to get excited about my trip, and I keep getting distracted by organisation for it or organisation of my life. It's close to my heart.
So my mum says something I really don't want to do and schedules it for after my trip. Meaning, I now have to fight thinking about it when I am away.

FU.

I don't mind being a fulltime volunteer. But what is stressing me out is wondering how the fuck am I going to balance everything else.
Like JOB SEEKING.

I think mum doesn't understand, and I don't know how to show her. She ALWAYS turns around and convicts me of spending too much time on the computer playing video games and waking up late. Just because I get up whilst she's away in the morning, doesn't mean I GET UP WHEN SHE GETS HOME.

I love my mum, otherwise I wouldn't be so upset by her.

I need a job/income and move out. I love my parents but I constantly get reminded at how I can't live with them anymore. It's smothering.

Nope. They've had to resort to taking three guesses each hour in the past week...and still no love (btw the "rolling garbage bin to curb" guess didn't work...now I'm starting to doubt  )

The really funny part is, they've gone over the $10k budget by a little, but more importantly, they're out of time; they've got a different call-in contest starting on Monday - I wonder what they're going to have to resort to if we 'stupid Newfies' don't guess the sound by 9am today (Friday)! :)

Dammit empath, now this is annoying me too. :D

There's something wooden and/or wheeled in there; I'm certain of that much.

Edit: Listening to it a little more, I think it something on a tray being thrown in a furnace. I can hear fire and a heavy impact at the end, like an industrial cooler door. Presumably some furnaces have a similar mechanism.

On a more vent-related note, I've somehow broken the character movement in this project and I don't know how I did it. Now I have to figure out how I did it the first time. X(

The last three or four nights I've gone to bed at a decent hour. Well, decent for me. And the last few nights, I've woken up at 5 AM and been unable to go back to sleep until 8. I find this to be very, very annoying.

You'd look down upon, criticise and call my relationship with my boyfriend "fucked up", and try to claim there was something mentally wrong with me, but you stay with a man you CLEARLY do not love and who is abusive toward you? Who has in fact been abusive toward you for as long as I can remember.

Yet my committed, loving relationship with a man is what's fucked up to you?

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Ok.

Been up for 24 hours. Stressed out, so I can't sleep. I don't want to do anything but pass out. And I can't even do that, which only serves to make me more angry and stressed, which then makes it harder to sleep. This is incredibly frustrating.

Why are people around me that I have any vague semblance of caring about turning into raving loons?

----

This happened this morning at church...

Her: *approaches me* So, who you voting for?
Me: *thinking "Oh we're doing this now? We're really doing this? Because my answer hasn't changed significantly in the intervening month from when you brought the topic up before."*
(While I have some opinions on who I won't vote for, I'm waiting for more of the buffoonery we call "US politics" to shape up before I have any strong stances.)
Me: I don't know... Maybe Carson?
Her: Well, what if he doesn't get the nomination?
Me: Then maybe Sanders?
Her: *dismissive* Oh, he won't get the nomination. He's a socialist.
Me: *thinking "You say that word as if it's an insult..."*
Me: Then I'll find some third party to vote for, because I am not voting for Clinton and I am not voting for Trump.
Me: *walks away*
Her: *freaking follows me* Why won't you vote for Trump?
Me: Because he's a racist, misogynist jerk.
Her: *dismissive* No he's not...
Me: Well, then, you're deluded. *walks away with finality*

Later...

Her: *approaches me while I'm on my phone* I will not have you insult me like that again, you hear me?
Me: *complete silent stone-face with an "Are you serious?" expression*
Her: *walks away*
Me: *thinking "I wasn't calling you 'deluded' to insult you. It was just a statement of fact. If I wanted to insult you, I would've called you an 'idiot' instead."*

----

So first, a woman I know gets caught up in the "Vaccines cause autism" thing. (I at least understand why she thinks that way, though.) Then, my cousin gets himself into the whole "9/11 truther" movement. And now I've got a woman who I've known for years trying to preach the "Gospel of Trump" at me?

Seemingly too busy to dignify my attempts to text you with a response, and yet you have time to check facebook? Thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanks.

Nice to see you've got your priorities right there....

Hard not to feel SLIGHTLY offended by this, honestly.

I thought my three good friends had gone without me to Alton Towers. Turns out it was just two of them, and they are engaged, so that's ok. I felt really upset for a few days. Jumped to a conclusion (tm).

Welp.

So the previous Federal Government was eager to 'profitize' the national mail service (under the premise that it's a for-profit corporation that's supposed to stand on its own two feet without any 'government handouts' and not a needed service to the populace), and one cost-cutting measure is the elimination of door-to-door mail delivery. For the second time in recent history, Canada Post took a fair amount of time, effort and expense to set up 'Super Mailboxes' on residential streets all across the nation. This had been tried previously with little support from the public and only small segments had been transitioned over to the now rusting, locks freeze in winter and leak in windy rain, often vandalized boxes from the 80's.

e.g.
Image

So I watched these teams of contracted workers install these pedestals all over the place - three different 'caches' on my own twenty-house long suburban street - and I wondered how this would save CP any money; firstly there are so many of these it'd take delivery staff just about the same amount of time and effort to distribute the mail to these community boxes, then secondly with all the work to KEEP ALL THIS CANADA POST PROPERTY SAFE for customers to use without slip-and-fall lawsuits (hint: most of Canada gets kinda icy for long periods of the year)

And due to this plan being the brainchild of the Cons, the Liberal party made it a noticeable plank in their platform to stop this change, and sure enough now that the election's over and the Liberals will form the Government, the "arm's-length Crown corporation" that makes its "own operational decisions" and has "a statutory obligation to operate self-sufficiently" decided to put the transition process on hold.

...but as yet there's no mention of reversing the process for those address that have already transitioned (just like how things went thirty years ago, last time this was attempted).

Which, naturally, includes my address - we started using the community mailbox halfway down the street this Monday.

Image

For the past few decades I've travelled around town and seen sporadic instances of those old brown and tarnished silver, skinny-legged 'Super Mailboxes' and felt bad about the people who had to brave the foul weather that my island is famous for year-round...and now I am one of them.

...hope nothing important gets stolen, or ruined by leaking water (or even just mis-delivered), nor that I end up hurting myself going out to pick up a wad of unsolicited junk advertising...

I'm not going to say what incident this is regarding, or who's side this friend is on.
I'm just going to point out that we are on the fourth or fifth different version of the "real" story behind what happened, all shared by this same friend, all with the caption "I can't believe this is what happened!" or something to that effect.

Okay. Less a 'vent' and more an update on a situation that I'd vented about previously, which has since gone on to drift from the 'dammit!' folder to the 'dub-tea-eff' folder:

KFX - that 'guess the sound' radio contest.

It's STILL GOING, and currently the jackpot's up to $11,200 (more than the budget for the entire contest which was supposed to be for multiple different sound bites that people would guess over the couple of months)

It's making the follow-up contest be squeezed in around it.

And despite first going from three guesses a day (one each at 7am, 8am & 9am, to three each at 7,8 & 9) and NOW going to eighteen a day (3 at 7am, 8am & 9am...then also at 10am, 11am, and noon), they're STILL getting nowhere.

One point of issue is that - despite all the previous guesses being listed on the website - people are still guessing the same things, which have already been disproved: ice machines figure prominently, as does paper being crumpled up (in myriad descriptions).

What they really need to do is provide some sort of subtle clue or cryptic hint - as several callers have suggested on-air.

The down side is that this isn't any fun for me to hear all day long (thanks to ads for the morning show/contest), and it doesn't seem to be showing any signs of letting up in this century.

...but the up side is - with the radio station expanding the call-in times...I may just be able to participate; by 10am the morning commuters are done, and it's too early for shoppers to be finished and needing a lift with all their spoils. It slows right now and I sometimes find myself sitting on a stand for the better part of an hour before I hear ANY radio calls, for ANYONE across the city.

So, even if it's NOT the winning guess, I may just be able to take the 'wheeled suitcase dragged across rough pavement' guess and definitively rule it out, since the rest of the listening public can't come closer to it than 2stepz' 'garbage bin wheeled out to the curb' (which was GOOD) or 'skateboard'
or todays "corn popper toy".

For those that don't get the connection Image

But one way or another, I hope SOMEONE guesses this thing so the radio station can quite taunting me with the damn sound effect in ads every twenty minutes or so!
