Desert Bus 9 Discussion

Postby Master Gunner » 13 Nov 2015, 12:22

Whelp, less than 24 hours until Desert Bus is once again upon us.

To help aggregate Desert Bus content, the Video Strike Team has put together a site with all of the poster revisions, video highlights, and GIFs posted to chat:

http://videostrike.team/

Direct link to the "Video Highlights" page: http://videostrike.team/DB9/ (or the Spreadsheet, if you prefer)

It's pretty barebones right now - but it will automatically pull most DB-related content.

If you find Twitch chat overwhelming, those of us who hang out year-round can be found here: http://videostrike.team/DBChat
Friendly community, and things like auctions/bids get echoed into that chatroom.

So...is your body ready?

My body is not ready for Desert Bus.

However, watching Desert Bus is easier on the body than being there in person, so I will likely not get as wrecked.

I have been in the Netherlands on business and I am flying back to the UK tomorrow morning. I have to be up at 5 am to catch a train to the airport so I will have been up for more than 12 hours by the time Desert Bus starts. I'm currently feeling tired.

For those that haven't heard:

There will be a tech test tonight at 5PST (time was just updated) - that's 3.5 hours from now.

My keyboard's heavy.
Screen set, fingers sweaty.
My meals are lined up already:
Reheat spaghetti.
I'm nervous, but seems my bank account is ready.
Drop hands to the keys, bid already

As I sit down, join the chat TYPING LOUD.
Prizes come out, wide I open my mouth
But I'm choking now, bidders got' be joking now!
The clock's run out, QUINDECOUPLE MADNESS, wow!
Watch back-to-back challenges, oh,
Did I just see Rosco?
Did that donation go, through alright? I hope so,
Either way I will go, on givin' 'till I'm broke.
Or can't sleep. Well I hope, I won that giveaway: no?
Don't matter y'know, it's not about prizes tho',
Or the bus drivin' slow- it's for the children.
That when they say that it's go,ing once we come out with:
"HOLY BUS DID HE JUST SPACEBID THAT?!"

...actually who would be up for me continuing that and doing a full Desert Bus version of Lose Yourself?

I definitely don't feel prepared. I just reset my Twitch password so I can get in (unless it's not on Twitch this year.) I still need to clean the living room since I'll be there for a week, & figure out the IRC once again, an annual tradition.

It is still on Twitch, and they're using Twitch chat so IRC isn't necessary.

However, those of us that hang out in chat year-round can be found in our own IRC here: http://videostrike.team/DBChat
(web client, so still no need to figure out IRC)

I was pointed in the direction of a program called 'Chatty' a couple of days ago, and it's pretty good for Twitch chat if you don't want to go down the full IRC route or want Twitch emoticons.

'Tis here: http://chatty.github.io/
I'm also QuintonDreaming. Stupid username availability prevents me from always being an Icelandic volcano.

Remember to go log into your donor account on Desertbus.org, and make sure it's linked to your Twitch account, if you want to bid on things (and also, it's just a good idea).

Also, as above, Chatty is a very useful twitch chat client. Personally, my favourite feature is that you can click on a person, and see only their messages. Useful for have a conversation in a crowed chat, or checking to see what someone is talking about.

If we were already setup with Desertbus.org+Twitch last year, is there anything new to redo or verify?

Finished my tech testing tonight. Got MIRC up & running, I can display the Twitch stream on the big TV in the living room, there's plenty of space for my laptop now & everything else I'll need. All that's left is sleep.

...dang.

I am honestly not ready... this time of year is always really busy for me. I'm going to try to watch as much as possible, but this year more than ever I am thankful for the video strike team to log all the wonderful funtimes that I will inevitably miss. <3

So, for all who are interested I finished the Lose Yourself translation, James picked it up when I submitted it but it hasn't been done yet (I'd guess because rapping it is quite tricky even for me, and I wrote the thing!). Full lyrics as follows:

[Chorus]
We're gonna lose ourselves in the chat, while we track
Each bug splat, crash bus stop or point they earn
From the old hands, to new guys who have yet to learn
Why the Zeta shift is screamin' DIDNEY WURL'!
We gonna lose ourselves to the bus, to the fuss,
All of us, give to the children night & day
We gonna make Liz dance, make Paul sing and Alex neigh
'till the Final Busdown for Child's Play...
[/Chorus]

Crafters been making, stuff to sweeten the bacon,
All keeping my PayPal aching
But it's OK, as the bus drives on, toward Tucson,
We hit Vegas earl'yer on. As is tradition, another rendition
Of Caramelldansen, keep us all laughing.
Y'know, the bus o-vertakes most of us, we
Overload those, servos for most sites we get told have said
"Yo, all yo' ladies & bros
We like how DB rolls, an we wanna,
Help all yo give to the children more dollah"
We'll go, Draco-gen Inc. to spinnin' shawarma
If yo' ain't seen this before, it seems just-a
Stream of weird games & folks- but yo,
We old folk tell yo that-ah,
You don't know how it goes or unfolds
When the pig's cloned already and you hear "WHO KICKED IT UP A NOTCH?!"

[/Chorus]

Play this game, bus for days through night/dawn haze
Whatever challenges they do, we will donate
Do whatever it takes for, us to persuade
G to play QWOP, Matt to see Twilight again
We keep going while they switch to the next driver
From James the First to Paul: last survivor
Got Cam goin' dapper and Alex all hyper
Andy don't want to set the world on fire
All backed up by an army of crafters, talent a-plenty
Come on. guys we're gone twice- take your shots snipers
Driver keeps going, through the Gay Bar as the, Device goes live
As we hear the word, ladies sayin Ermahgerd as the line that Qwerps comes on, plus
There's another suit who needs a-takin' to the store-and y'know I wanna
See another round o' bussin' Jenga
Too good, bus I wanna
Win every lot, all Ken Steacy's got, I will not give up,
At this point I can't fail I've got
To take my sniper shot, 'til it's in the mail I've naught.
Losing to Dengler ain't a bussing option, neither Notch.
For the children I give all I got, hey-o
I cannot go low, must say I fought
Here comes the best of the lot
The big jackpot
"I GOT MY PACKET OF SILICA GEL Y'ALL!!"

[/Chorus]

You can give everything you want to, man...

I figured all the shifts need their own words mottos. They may need some more work, but.

"There will always be a Dawn Guard to ensure the sun rises."

"Alpha Flight is the arrow shooting straight at Vegas."

"All that we see or seem, is but a dream of the Night Watch team."

"Zeta Shift is basically like the General Ignorance segment in Qi."
"I know I tend to sound like I think what I say is written in stone, but please ignore that. I assure you I'm well aware that I have no idea what I'm talking about." -Amake, 2015

*Watching Desert Bus for Hope*

"Hmm, it's getting late. I should head to bed. I'll just see how this current bit ends first so I don't miss anything good."

"I should see how this next bit starts in case it's too good to miss."

*rinse*

*repeat*

"Whuhh? Guh. Morning? Maybe I can play it on my phone & listen on the way to work so I don't miss anything good..."

That was basically my thinking, but it was more along the lines of...

"Let's see how the current bit ends..."

"Let's see how the next bit begins..."
