Across The Universe
Across The Universe
So last night I went to see Across The Universe and I must say I really loved it. Despite it being perhaps a bit too long, it really was beautifully done. I loved Max and Prudence as well. Even though the songs were very literal for the most part every one of them worked perfectly with the scene.
Opinions? Comments? What'd you guys think of it or are you looking forward to seeing it?

I saw it yesterday as well!
In fact, I am listening to the soundtrack right now. FANCY THAT. I thoroughly enjoy the use of Joe Cocker.
I wholeheartedly agree that it was too long - I really enjoyed it, though. I am not sure yet if I liked Evan Rachel Wood. I had only ever seen her on CSI and Running With Scissors, both where she didn't really do too much - I'm still conflicted as to whether I liked her or not in this.
I loved the musicality of it, though - not just the songs, but the way the songs were used. Basically every song about Max and the army. I am not terribly familiar with the Beatles so I don't know what song it was during the enlisting part, but that and the stuff of him in 'Nam and the stuff in the hospital... it was breathtaking to watch.
And they did the trippy, hippie, crazy stuff really well. It totally gave the feeling of the time and the way the movie was supposed to feel without being too over the top (well, it was over the top, but that wasn't a bad thing).

Yeah I saw it last night as well. I did like it overall, I have to say it's not what I was expecting from the trailer. I expected not so much constant use of songs, I expected it to span a longer period of time(Such as maybe showing the characters in the 80's), and I expected some character development.
However even though it wasn't what I expected I still thought it was a good movie. Even if it's really not fair to other movies to just use Beatles songs, I think that gave me an falsely high opinion of the movie.
But it was okay because I got to go out to karaoke to sing Beatles songs. Hooray!

Looking back, the movie is just an extended version of the trailer.
Just when seeing the trailer I filled in the blanks quiet a bit differently and I enjoyed the story I made in my head quiet a bit more in comparison to the film. That's probably why I was let down in some cases.
Plus it's the only film I've gone to without looking it up on wikipedia in recent memory.

It's not that I'm not a fan of Evan Rachel Wood, but I'm not really a fan of Lucy. I dunno why, I just wasn't horribly fond of her. And though I loved her voice, I wasn't really a fan of many of her songs through the movie.
And for me it was definitely what I'd expected from the Trailer. The soundtrack was fantastic and I can't wait to buy it. I particularly loved 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' which was sung by Prudence. I ADORED it.

Anyhoo, back on topic:
This movie looks fantastic. I want to see it, despite the fact that Eddie Izzard sorta scares me.

Okay.
(I was going to come up with something else to say, but I couldn't think of anything)
