How does this give Canada any claim to him whatsoever?

Because...I didn't check my facts?

This is honestly and truly NOT WORTH ARGUING ABOUT, but if you READ the rest of the article rather than the opening preamble, you'll see what I'm talking about.

You lost this one. Just cause he was born in the US by Canadian parents doesn't make him American.

Actually... that's a tricky one. Did the parents live in canada in the US?

yeah i concur.. things are weird when you start talking about "americans" because we all came from different places, so by this assumption, if i invent/do anything cool (which is unlikely) Germany and Poland would lay claim to me because my parents are German and Polish... being born somewhere doesn't mean you are that nationality, nor does the fact that your parents were.. it all depends on the person themselves, and how they see themselves...

Legally speaking, if you are born in America, you are legally an American Citizen.

See, Graham, this whole thing is your fault. You assume that I have the attention span to do that. While my I posses an incredible, LASER LIKE focus that trumps any man or mythical being, I have my limits, and even one so dedicated as I, after a point, must hey, did you ever read that issue of Green Lantern, where he's on the roof with The Justice League, and his hands are all glowy, and he's like "you know, I could split atoms with this thing?"

That was wicked cool.

As they'd generally either be flown back to their own countries, or if they have the proper facilities, give birth in the embassy. I seem remember something about us seeding part of the Toronto hospital to a European country so that one of their dignitaries that was over here wouldn't give birth in Canada, and their embassy didn't have the a medical facility or something. Anybody know anything about that?

Exactly. Legally. But if we want to be nit-picky about this then the only "true Americans" would be the Native Americans. But, I'd rather not get too nitpicky about it...

Ok so let me end this right now by saying that a person's nationality or creed is best defined by THE PERSON'S CHOICE. I am an American, because I choose to be seen as such. But I could easily have the choice that I am an Irishman, and Englishman, a German, and so on because I am of those races.

Long story short, one's nationality is chosen by that person, regardless of where they were born.

With the modifier that they must be, at least somewhat, originated from that nationality? Like, I can't call myself Japanese because I've never been to Japan and have no family heritage from there, can I?

But then, could I call myself Mongolian, because I have an unusual strain of tooth formation that is distinctly Mongolian in genetics, despite my incredibly overwhelming number of non-Mongolian genetic traits?
