Dunno if you heard about the new Star Trek Movie but.....

Postby RobertMc123 » 13 Oct 2007, 14:53

I am not sure if you have heard the news on the new Star Trek movie but apparently it is harking back to the Original series but with new actors. So far Scotty and Spock have been cast with Leonard Nimoy as Spock's father.
Spock will be played by Syler from Heroes and the biggest new is Scotty....

who will be played by....

the man, the legend,

Simon Pegg.

Star Trek suddenly became cool.

From what I heard this movie is going to be about Captain Pike and not Kirk. And Shatner will be doing a cameo at one point.
Sounds like a movie for the fanboys.

good. they're the ones who buy the merchandise, games, go to conventions... they deserve a movie. :)

the question is this: would pike still ban women from being on the bridge? if so, then i'll definitely see this movie.

Generally the writers of Star Trek go with what works, so I could see them having Pike do that. Then he could go batshit crazy and ban anyone who isn't human from the bridge....

and thus we see his descent into madness, leading to Kirk taking over as Captain.

Matt Damon will probably not be Kirk.
The cast looks like they're mostly fairly new, lesser known actors. Which is fine for me.
Pegg was an interesting choice for Scotty. I'm a fan of his work. I hope he does a good job of Scotty. Not totally decided on any of them yet.

I guess we'll see at the end of 2008.

Oh, and Morgan, they've cast an Uhura, so I doubt there will be a ban on women on the bridge.

Mind you, there might be a ban on the women wearing anything which doesnt expose a hell of a lot of leg. :D

They approached Walter Koenig to play the part, but all he did was grumble about "crazy kids". Then he crushed their minds with his psychic powers.

That's Anton Yelchin! He's actually a pretty good actor.

Zoe Saldana is also going to be in the upcoming James Cameron "Avatar" movie. Which is not apparently a movie based on the cartoon "Avatar" but rather one based upon James Cameron getting Lucasy in his old age.

Here's the plot synopsis:

In a distant future, humanity discovers the planet 'Alpha Centauri B-4', and for those scientists and astronauts who've traversed the gulf between neighboring suns and arrived on its alien soil know it as 'Pandora'. A world filled with an incredible diversity of beautiful and deadly ammonia-breathing lifeforms. Its also a world that harbors treasures and resources almost beyond price. But just as the original Pandora's Box wrought devastation on those who would use it for their own gain, so too this world may destroy not just the Pandorans home, but ours as well.

Avatar is the story of a wounded ex-marine, thrust unwillingly into an effort to settle and exploit an exotic planet rich in bio-diversity, who eventually crosses over to lead the indigenous race in a battle for survival.
All hail the great deku tree!

Sounds interesting.

I really like Zoe Saldana, personally, I just do not think she is right at ALL for Uhura.

It's a rip-off of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri.

I wish a mindworm would eat James Cameron.
