The Ballad of the Fanboy

Postby Paul » 19 Oct 2007, 16:55

Welcome to Season 5!

We decided to switch it up this year and give 64K a break, but don't worry, they are not forgotten. Kinda like this song. Man, I have had this stuck in my head all week.

Clever. Catchy, as well.

However, I was hoping for all the things being set up to...I dunno make a display that we'd see at the end. It feels sort of like I was built up only to be let down. :(

Anyone else notice some choppy sound? Fairly frequently?

PS: Great job, Jer, with the song!

SECOND

Woot! I was third to watch it!

Wicked video.

Also, "they are not forgotten"? Does that mean we'll be seeing some phat beats this season?

EDIT: Ok, longer post now I've seen it a few times. It's very touching in a strange way. It's a very beautiful song, and it's the sort of one that can bring a tear to one's eye.

Congrats Jer, on writing an awesome song. The innuendo's brilliant (LRR's first actual wii-lol-wee-means-penis joke yay), and contributes to this piece of art. I hope that this goes in the top 5 where it belongs.

Also, Matt, WHOA nice game collection!

The audio quality was somewhat odd, but maybe that is just me.
The Metal Gear part disturbs me greatly.

...that had the most innuendo in any LRR video... ever. Asides from... like, Playing With Condoms. But even so.

But I like Jer's voice!

Those were actually some pretty good lyrics, but I'm not sure whether it needed more or less game references. It had the right amount of innuendo, though. Kudos to Jer for his songwriting skillz.

I also thought the sound quality was off. I'm not sure whether or not that was due to an intentional audio after-effect but I'd like to hear a 'clean' version of the song.

Also, Matt's shelf of games ftw (from this weeks LRRCast, I'm assuming it's his). I, as a designer with similar obsessive habits, appreciate the effort put into that. Adrian Monk would be proud.

P.S. My prediction: >20,000 hits.

I love LRR and i don't mean the following as a a personal critisism, but...

Perhaps it was the effect applied to his voice but it sounded flat in both senses musically and the way it was sung. I like the lyrics & innuendo but the effect kinda made it a bit boring, and the notes somehow jarred me.

My first ever critisism of a LRR vid :(

Damn! StoneageRocker's opinions take precedence over mine by virtue of our forum ranks! I'll try to avoid posting in the same thread. j/k

I didn't want to bring it up but...yeah...I agree with StoneageRocker re: the way it was sung.

What is up with the new ads on the Revver vid?
That new? Cause its highly disturbing... and I hope Revver isn't doing it to all the videos...

a) i am very angry with Revver right now because an ad popped up on the bottom quarter of the screen in the MIDDLE OF THE VIDEO
THERE IS NOTHING I HATE MORE THAN THIS

b) i giggled so much in this one. even though I am not too much of a video game geek, I still got the innuendo because it was all in the names. Solid Snake, Final Fantasy, Wii.... beautiful. I actually laughed out loud at the 'waggle my wii' part.

I suspect that very soon someone is going to post that 'OMG THAT GUY IS SO CUTE AND NICE TO HIS GIRLFRIEND SHE HAD BETTER TAKE HIM BACK OMG' thinking that it's real.

I wait.

I enjoyed the song. Jer, you and Tally are alright, right?

REGARDING ADS: Remember when they had the 30 second ads before the videos? I APPRECIATE THIS TYPE. I CAN CLOSE THIS TYPE, IF I DESIRE. ALSO, LRR MAKES MONEY. SO SUCK UP THE ADS AND BE THANKFUL you big babies.

For me, it was the "slide down my flagpole" bit. I am now receiving strange looks from the people around me - and I don't dare explain to them why.

Oh... I c wut u did ther...
You enabled the bastard preroll and popup ads on Revver.
I always wondered what those looked like (And was afraid to enable them myself out of fear my users would rebel against me and take my head... there can be only one you know..) and now that I have seen them with my own eyes I have to say plz loose them quickly.

They way they work is extremely annoying and really takes away from the viewing pleasure.

Actually there are still ads at the end of this video as well so your point is flawed... I understand the money part with running a site and all but... this is a BIT much.

Who cares if there are ads at the end of the video? YOU ARE DONE WATCHING IT BY THEN.

No, not at all.

And I would rather have to sit through a few seconds of an ad than have it obscure the video I am trying to watch. It's sort of hard to ignore when it's blocking what I'm looking at.

And could you try and be a little less aggressive, maybe? We were just saying.

RE: 64K

We actually had an idea for a video with them to open the season, but we didn't feel we could do it justice in the time we had. They'll be back.

RE: New Ads

No, Kroze, these are different that pre-roll. Those were annoying as heck. I like these because, yes they popup part way through, but you can close them, they take their info from the video tags, and they barely obscure the video because we use widescreen.

We're testing them on a trial basis right now, thanks for all the feedback.

Maybe they'll grow on me but for now it feels like I am watching Lost on ABC and they just have to tell me to watch their stupid new reality TV show interrupting my enjoyment of it and taking me out of the moment.

Great song Jer. The effect played was a little strange to me, but the actual lyrics were awesome.
As for the ads popping up, that was really annoying. Was more distracting to me than the first time the LRR logo popped up at the very bottom (I just couldn't stop looking at it). Kudos guys.
