In preparation for the MTGO Community Cup, Graham practices some "paper" drafting at the local comic shop.

You had Skithiryx? Man... I pulled him out of my first booster during my first ever Scars of Mirrodin draft. And then I passed him to the next guy 'cause I didn't know how to use Infect properly. *facepalm/sigh*

I gotta say I'm loving these Magic videos! Would Graham and Jer ever be interested in sitting down and explaining their thought processes when drafting? I know we get a good look at it from the drafting videos, but I was thinking more like a tutorial/strategy kind of video where they just sit around and talk about what cards are good and why, and maybe even more importantly why they think certain cards are bad.
PS - This is what part of the alphabet would look like if Q and R were eliminated.

Need moar Magic videos! They're awesome!

Also, lol at the shop-owner's really insincere-sounding 'well done' at the end

I'm sure he's lovely, though

Can someone explain how drafting works or point me to where I can find that information?

BTW, love the magic videos. I haven't played for almost 10 years, it might be fun to try this online thing.

The very basics of a draft: Eight people sit around a table. Each person has three booster packs. Everyone opens the first pack, picks a card and passes to the left. This repeats until the cards are all taken, then the second pack is opened but this time passed to the right. The third pack is again passed to the left.

You then get 30-50 mins to build a 40 card (this number includes lands) deck. A pre-specified number of swiss rounds ensues, the winner gets millions of dollars, the admiration of all the attractive men or women in the room (based on preference of course), and international acclaim, or maybe just some booster packs.

Edit: More info here, here and here.

5 packs for each of the top 4? Strange distribution if you ask me but there's nothing wrong with that.

They may have all gone 3-1, depending on how they arranged the matches.

We did, yes. Everyone went 3-1. The guy I played last (and beat) was 3-0 going into the match.
