Re: deus ex
I also suspected it, but kinda put it out of my mind until I was right at the LIMB clinic. Something about the way she asked if I wanted the new chip was...unsettling. It's totally worth not getting the chip, though, because Adam looks so damned smug in that cutscene. Seriously love that cutscen...

Re: Ma'am: Respectful or Insulting???
I've always used Ms. as well. It's "safe". Some women I've met like being called ma'am, because it does carry with it a certain amount of respect and civility, I guess. Others tend to see it as "UR OLD HAHAHAHA" and find it rude. When working at a call centre, all women were Ms. ...

Re: deus ex
I thought headshot gun kills gave 30XP. Oh well. You'll still finish the game with enough Praxis to get almost every (useful) aug provided you explore, hack everything, and remain unseen. Unseen, incidentally, means enemies never went hostile; they can be alarmed and that won't stop Ghost. It really...

Re: deus ex
Good luck! At this point, I'd offer to mail you the disc if I trusted CanadaPost to deliver it as anything but a fine silvery powder. :P The difference between lethal and non-lethal is only like 20XP per kill(assuming headshots), so it isn't THAT big a deal. Ghost/smooth operator are more important....

Re: deus ex
I wouldn't call it a carbon copy, since they both seem to be drawing inspiration from the same place (Blade Runner and similar cyberpunk settings), but Hengsha specifically seems to draw some stylistic choices from Ghost In The Shell. I don't watch anime, though, so if you hadn't said anything and f...

Re: deus ex
I made it the entire game with NO deaths. No one. Then, right at the end, two guys ran into a mine I didn't set and that was enough to deny me the achievement. So now this playthrough I'm killing almost everyone. Soothing. Next playthrough, I'll try again. (Also, watch the credits to the end when yo...

Thank you for helping me make this decision. (I do have the weekend off, so it's not like I won't get any time with my new toy. :) ) The correct decision. Yeah, playing through again, paying more attention to the little details it's really great. The soundtrack is just excellent. And you're right a...

Re: deus ex
I hadn't mentioned the music, but you bring up a good point. It does a fantastic job of standing on it's own while definitely calling back to Deus Ex. Augs can be a bit...underwhelming. They were going for a combined augmentation/skill system, ala Invisible War, that didn't suck. Which they made. It...

Re: deus ex
Just finished it. No spoilers, but it's very good. The boss fights feel...strange. Like they don't belong in the game at all. It's the same problem Alpha Protocol had, actually. You're going along doing your own thing, and suddenly you're fighting a cage match where the skills you've chosen are usel...

I'd give you guys the subjugation honors, but I don't think the brits have ever had a good old fashioned genocide. Your naivety is adorable. But we should probably not go down this road, or we'll end up with Venting Thread Delta. Also: what the hell, August? You're cruising along, all nice temperat...

First impressions: good. Very good. I've seen two faces and one voice I recognize, but the timeline for them fits so that's okay. My biggest complaint is that Windsor's skyline is all wrong. :P That or the cities population explodes in the next thirty something years. Detroit's skyline is pretty goo...

Astrophysicist, physician...they both have phys in them! theRocket: how far are you from the border? If your health card is still valid, you could always make a trip up here and get whatever for cheap/free. Assuming the cost of whatever you need is greater than the cost of the trip, of course. My ow...

Layton will apparently lie in state on Parliament Hill at some point this week, and then receive a full state funeral on Saturday. He deserves it.

Yeah, EB called and said it would be in. I'll be heading there as soon as they open. I've avoided actually reading the reviews(spoilers!) but they're almost all universally positive. Gettin' excited.

Re: Jack Layton.
The NDP will be fine. There won't be a nasty knife fight over the leadership, and the others waiting in the wings are competent progressives who will fight just as hard, if less charismatically, than Jack. It's such a sad loss, though. Really, I didn't think I'd be quite as saddened by this as I am....

Re: Jack Layton.
Incredibly sad. He led the party to it's greatest heights in a generation, saw it rise to Official Opposition and very nearly became Prime Minister. He was definitely one the most media savy of our politicians, and really seemed to know how to connect with people of all ages. It's a great tragedy an...

Re: Sid Meier's Pirates
DDR would be so much better if you had to wear a powdered wig to play. Though I meant that the interface leaves a lot less guesswork to the timing. You tap circles as a ring shrinks down inside it. It's much more obvious when you need to act. I just really suck at it, apparently. Come to think of it...

Re: Sid Meier's Pirates
Picked this up for the iPad, and the controls are...interesting. The dancing minigame is actually slightly better. It's basically DDR, and so works much more smoothly. Of course, it crashes so often you'd think it was a Gamebryo game. Oh wait...

Re: deus ex
Huh, I hadn't run into any of that. I didn't play it until well after it was out and patched, though. I didn't think the level design was too bad, until the very last mission. The conversation thing is a complaint others have made too, and I sort agree. I liked the over-all concept, it just didn't d...

*counts* Hmm... But yeah, that fight is a pain in the ass the first time through. Alpha Protocol is still a pretty good game and almost a worthy successor of Deus Ex. Almost. I don't really understand why it's so hated. Maybe because Thorton is kind of a smarmy dick? I'm not sure why my comment got ...

Deus Ex is my favourite game of all time, bar none. It is the stick to which all other games are measured. I do not enjoy many games lately. I think I said this on IRC, but BUY DEUS EX. DO IT NOW. NOW. It's like $10 on Steam and worth every penny. Play it vanilla once, then play through with Biomod ...

Re: AMEND THIS! (a thread on civil rights and responsibilities)
I like that the amount that can be spent on our campaigns is extremely small relative to the US. I think it's something like each party is allowed to spend $1 per citizen, which these days works out to around $35 million per party. Versus the billions that get thrown around in the US. $2 dollars pe...

Just a though Goillum, haveyou tried applying to a school out west? I think you can get extra funding that way for housing. I had though of that, but I'm not even sure how it would work. I don't think OSAP will cover it unless the courses I want aren't offered in Ontario, which they are. I could mo...

Stupid dog slipped out while I was hanging the laundry out. I didn't notice and he decided to go for a little tour of the neighbourhood. One of the neighbours spotted him and thought he was a stray, because of his missing fur. They fed him(which was nice of them, and he made a pig of himself apparne...
