I would have a reaction if the article told me what SecuROM actually was.

Oh, the things has a secret thing it installed on my system that is very hard to remove. It doesn't like being meddled with. Yep, describes a lot of software on my machine. Tell me a reason to actually care.

I have a lot of stuff that snuk onto my system. I don't see how one more will make any difference.

I can't react to it unless I know it's bad.

Well, it all started with Spore.

I still like the de-rez video parody regarding SecuROM from 2008. :D

Wikipedia wrote:SecuROM limits the number of PCs activated at the same time from the same key. SecuROM 7.x was the first version to include the SecuROM Removal Tool, which is intended to help users remove SecuROM after the software with which it was installed has been removed.[4] Most titles now also include a revoke tool to deactivate the license; revoking all licenses would restore the original activation limit.[5] As with Windows activation, a hardware change may appear as a change of computer, and force another activation of the software.[6] Reformatting the computer may not consume an activation, if the Product Activation servers successfully detect it as a re-installation on the same set of hardware.[7] The activation limit may be increased, on a case-by-case basis, if the user is shown to have reached this limit due to several hardware-triggered re-activations on the same PC.

It's just yet another piece of DRM. Nothing I've found on the software says that it tracks anything beyond the number of activations of a software key.

I was told that it hates you upgrading your hardware, but given I use a laptop, that's kinda impossible to do.

Yeah. Part of the issue is that every time you change your hardware, it considers it a "different" computer, so you have to use a new activation. Since they're limited, you can run out quickly.

Of course, we have to remember that this version of SecuROM was built into The Sims 2 (or one of its expansions), and thus is up to TEN YEARS OLD - I'm sure it won't have ANY problems identifying hardware devices that never existed when it was written and sent out

Oh, Merry - is your CD-ROM still working? Because SecuROM had a reputation of killing the device drivers for ones it doesn't like...

If it helps, I've had no problems whatsoever running the game, and I have Windows 8.1. Not a hiccup out of SecuROM. Although it crashes if you try to change the resolution, so enjoy them black bars.

No problems. Loading screens and saving takes a lonnnggggg time due to how much expansive content there is (compared to when I installed from my disks. I only had three expansions).

I had no issue changing resolution.

Had trouble starting it up because the title card after the intro movies takes forever to pass/it froze. But I can play it fine.

I built a replica of my house (minus the internal objects) and now, I'm back to playing Barbie Dolls. Remembered what I hated about Sims 2: It's annoying forcing your sims to interact with people but both people keep getting distracted.

Should I make a LRR house called The Moonbase with LRR crew in it?

Transistor is on sale for 33% off. I couldn't stop myself from buying it.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is also on sale for 15% off. It's from Falcom, the developers of the Ys series, and apparently it's a port from the PSP.

so Dominions 4 is on sale. If you can get past pretty bad graphics it's a really deep and quite complicated in some ways turn based strategy game.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is on sale this weekend. If you love open world adventure, rich backstory and world building, gorgeous fantasy locales, Fable-style action/RPG combat, and seemingly endless weapon and armour customization, then this is the game for you! I know Video James played it once a few months ago, so if you liked what you saw and want to get in on the action, now's your chance!

^I do recommend for your sanity, if you're a 100%ist with regards to questing, you don't have to do every single quest. There is a lot of things to be done in the game.
If you dislike spending an entire afternoon doing over a single quest hub, then perhaps stop doing every single side quest.

Pick & choose.

It's a very fun game when you stop making it a job.

I played the demo of KoA (mainly for the Mass Effect 3 armour) and couldn't progress when it asked me to use the mouse wheel for something - I was on a laptop with no mouse wheel.

Are the controls configurable? Otherwise KoA and I are going to have a problem.

They must be.
I don't know. I've uninstalled it and don't want to play it until I get a new PC. Would be nice to play the game on high qualities.

Shadowrun is on sale on Steam right now. Also I did the math and the base version plus the upgrade is the same for the bundle thing. Steam is smart, I woulda cut that 2cents if I had been able to. T

he only problem with the sale is that the DLC is not on sale too.
