LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
For those of you that missed it, on IDDQDerp Alex played a bit of TF2 while waiting for Wolfenstein to download.
As he dragged me back in, it is my duty to drag all of you back in.
The server is provided by MasterCheese, of the Desert Bus chat. It is running pure vanilla TF2 - no Kritzkrieger, Backburner or Dead Ringer.
Server: TF2.dahou.se

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Yeah, that was fun to play.
I need to figure out exactly what the "vanilla" things are, though, so I can have an alternate load-out if I want.

Vanilla means no alternate items at all, though hats and other cosmetic items still showed up.
I wish I'd been able to catch that stream. Will definitely be returning to the server soon, though.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Oh really? I was pretty sure there were a couple of options in weapons at launch. I could be wrong.
Also, can you have the "Strange" variants of stock weapons? I know I have a Strange Shotgun, which is just like a regular shotgun.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
It's possible I'm mistaken, I started when there were already a few item options.
I'm inclined to guess strange items would work, but I can't say for sure.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
You can select any loadout you want, but when you spawn, the mod swaps your items for the default loadout.
MasterCheese can enable specific items if there is demand for them, on a case by case basis.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
I've actually been somewhat interested in giving TF2 a shot. My only stumble (aside from not having a computer anymore) is my disinclination to play with random shitheads on the internet.
On a LRR server, I'd only play with shitheads I can trust! As soon as I'm able, count me in.

It's all over but the crying. And the taxes.

Have we fixed the bug where my Engineer buildings would explode every time I nudged a resupply locker?

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Oh man... I just thought that if we could get a model modification on this server to make the Spy look like Cam, that'd be awesome...
If we could get the mouth full of cigarettes, that'd be a bonus.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
My TF2 is not launching. At all. I tried verifying cache, deleting select files as instructed and NOW I deleted it, am defragging and then restarting and then redownloading.
Anyone else had this problem since the newest patch?

I believe that would have to be a client-side mod, not server-side.

I've been trying to get on just to bookmark the server and then see who was on.
Ah well. Another day.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
It's been working fine for me recently, but I've had that problem in the past, and I think a re-install fixed it.
Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Deleted, reinstalled, no joy.
Attempts to load logo, crashes. Every single time. I even tried -novid to bypass the logo. Crash. I even tried joining a friend's server straight from the Steam menu. Nothing.
This Steam update has ruined it.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
It's actually kind of a shame that they didn't have an army helmet for Kate in that shot, so we had Soldier/Engineer/Spy.
Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Got it working. After many registry fixes, logo bypasses, Steam restart, verifying cache, reinstalling the entire game, so on, so forth, ALL it took was to restart my PC.

Strange and Name/Description Tag'd versions of stock items, cosmetic reskins of stock items (and aforementioned variations thereof), and perhaps the Pyrovision weapons (the Lollichop is a straight reskin, but the Rainblower has a taunt kill).

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
Straight-up agree on Strange and Name/Description variants and on reskins. None of that actually affects gameplay.
So, to list the reskins potentially to be allowed:
The Lollichop
The Scottish Handshake
The Iron Curtain
The Apoco-Fists
The Golden Wrench
The AWPer Hand
The Big Kill
The Sharp Dresser
The Black Rose
The Enthusiast's Timepiece
The Quäckenbirdt
The Ap-Sap
The Lugermorph
The Frying Pan
The Conscientious Objector
The Freedom Staff
The Bat Outta Hell
The Memory Maker
The Ham Shank
The Saxxy
The Golden Frying Pan
All of the Festive, Botkiller, and Australium variants of stock weapons

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
I got thinking last night. I think I'd like the Cloak and Dagger if you ever decide to add in a few random items. It's the spy watch of TFC and FF and brings the spy back to his glory days.

Re: LRR Vanilla TF2 Server
I did it! Anyone having these problems, uninstall GeForce Experience. It has fucked up my TF2. THAT is why restarting my PC allowed TF2 to load. Steam loaded FIRST! And THEN I launched TF2. And THEN GFE loaded.
