Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
Well done... we made it all the way through the damn thing.
Also, did Satan start getting very Aku in his voice there towards the end for anybody else? I kept expecting him to bust out:
"Foooolish samur-er, Templar warrior!"

(Jaebird, I was totally wrong, those ARE the chains, it DOES come up, but it's glossed over so casually that I forgot)
It's okay, Graham. I can see how Lucifer's Kickstand can make you forget things.

Well the guys did want Dante to jump into his own mech and have a mech battle vs Satan.

I was kind of hoping they'd go on and play from one of Alex's saves so they could watch the bad ending.

Bravo for getting through that. You're way more patient than I am. I have to say, floppy satan dong was perhaps not the greatest design decision ever made.

I could see how purgatory could be made into a game with a healthy dose of artistic license, but Paradisio has almost no drama what so ever, its just Beatrice giving him a tour of heaven.

...Well, no complaints about the lack of HD in that one.

I don't want to be a jerk about it, but did no one see the snake crawl away, with Lucifer laughing before the screen went black? That, to me, seems like a pretty blunt way of saying, "Hey, Satan still found a way of getting out. Stop his influence from corrupting Purgatory, before he gets into Paradise."
I'm pretty sure I've gone into how I would imagine Purgatory and Paradise could work as games on this forum, in the gaming section.

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
Just to be clear, I'm not some kind of uber-fanatic about the game. As mediocre as the game was, I dug the art direction (Cleopatra's baby-boobs and Lucifer's dong notwithstanding). I would like to see that same, crazy vision applied to the other stories, however boring and uninteresting they may be.

We actually feel the same way. Like, as bad as this game is, everything looks kind of awesome. The awesome is just applied in terrible ways.Jaebird wrote:Just to be clear, I'm not some kind of uber-fanatic about the game. Oh shit, I didn't think of that. That needs to happen.

Would Dante's Inferno be the Batman & Robin of the game industry? A mediocre game with art direction you don't get to see anymore?

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
Maybe there's a reason we don't get to see Batman and Robin's art direction anymore?
Edit: So I just finished the series. And I want to thank Graham, Paul and Brad for taking that bullet so the rest of us don't have to. Appreciate it guys

Yeah I guess your right. Part of me some how keeps forgetting how loose an "adaptation" these are. I'm not sure how I forgot that seeing as I've read Inferno but still.
I figure if you want to play Paradiso play El Shaddai, it looks cool and is at least as accurate to its source material as this.

Was it just me or was the boss fight kind of anti-climactic?

He was much more frustrating on Normal difficulty, of all things.

Yeah, we LP on easy mode so we can see more of the game and not replay the same sections over and over while swearing.

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
Out of interest how long did it take Alex to do the "Stay up in the air for an impossible amount of time (8 seconds)" part?
Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
Ignoring Satan's battle dong(since it went away post-fight), the weirdest thing I found about that was the similarities to the climax of Disney's Hercules.
1.Protagonist fails to protect love interest.
2.She dies, spirit goes to underworld.
3.Protagonist is pissed off, follows her into underworld and fights his way to the lower levels to fetch her from the ruler of the underworld.
4.Lord of underworld almost gets his way through demoralizing protagonist and gloats a bit.
5.Protagonist gets divine intervention epiphany, which elevates him to a power level that can't be defeated and causes copious amounts of glowing light
6.Lord of underworld tries to wheedle out of the new problem, but fails and is trapped by the spirits of his own realm in a religiously empowered body of water
7.Protagonist leaves underworld, reunites with love interest, and there is an expansive vista to look at involving a lot of clouds.

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
I can see how they can be similar, except for the last one, since Dante has to go through Purgatory to get to Paradise to be reunited with his lover.
Edit: Then again, you've pretty much described any number of climactic battles and their endings.

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
I just watched the entire 6 hours strait, and I have three things to say.
1. That was hilarious, thank you. I cant wait for more.
2. Every time Brad got interrupted I got ticked. I was just as, if not more, intrigued by the historical commentary as I was the jokes.
3. Brad, I cant wait until you get your first job teaching and get this student. I have foreseen it.

I stumbled across one of these somehow and ended up watching the whole Dantes Inferno LP in one weekend. I had work to do damn it!

Re: GPLP: Dante's Inferno
One question, and I'm not sure it was answered, I had is as follows: Did Brad come away satisfied that the game stayed true to the original text?
