The Superintendent's Sorrow
The Superintendent's Sorrow
A little bonus something for you guys, because you may or may not actually get it.
It's been kind of a big deal for video game news from this year's E3 though. I'm sure Jer can post some links. It was just too great to pass up on.
I love the little guy already.
EDIT: Jer is asleep, here are some links.

Dug, although I don't follow video game news closely enough to know the pretext beyond the news headlines flashed at the beginning I wholly endorse this movie as it looks like it'll be one of the big ones that gets linked around a bunch, usually the video game industry stuff does

A very pretty song & utterly adorable little logo with a plunger.
I can usually discern some kind of meaning from parody material that references something I'm not that familiar with -- MGS4 Boss Auditions for example -- but I have absolutely no idea what this video is about, who it's for or what it means. Something to do with Bungie is all I got so far. I presume it's hilarious for those in the know but all I can say for the moment is that it's cute & sweet.
So, would my dear friends here in the forum please help clue me in?

The ramp-up to this announcement was huge. The Superintendent character was infiltrating the Bungie forums, appearing in Halo online, showing up weird places.
And then Microsoft said not yet.
I'll amend the first post with these.

Re: The Superintendent's Sorrow
Actually, I'm awake, but my phone's battery died and I am at Tally's .
Currently just emailing everyone I know .
If you listen to the podcasts, you will know I am a big Bugie fan. I like their games, I like their company .. . they are just generally rad.
Anyway, I awaited said announcement with bated breath . . . and was very sad to see it not happen. Long story short:
• Bungie had been teasing a major announcement at the Microsoft Press Conference leading up to E3. Allegedly, this was to be a 60-second teaser, followed by a blowout seminar on Wednesday.
• Lots of the teaser images used the cute little superintendent character, who showed up on Frankie and Luke's shirts during PR appearances, on their forums, and in various other places (he would replace the the ads or even the bungie logo on their site at times, and his face was used to cover up a bunch of action figures on their office webcams shortly before E3)
• The "big announcement" was apparently canceled at the last minute by Microsoft, as the FF XIII arrangements were made at the 11th hour. Microsoft rightly didn't want to upstage such a major announcement from Square.
• As such, around the time of the conference, Bungie started a countdown on their site for the big Wednesday blowout seminar.
• Given the relative lack of announcements from its competitors during their conferences, Microsoft canceled the seminar on Tuesday night, leaving Bungie to apologies for months and months of wasted viral buildup. Allegedly, they wanted to give the news its own event, where it could be the center of attention . . . which would probably a decent idea, if it hadn't involved making Bungie apologize for all their own hype.
• Don Mattrick (the head of Microsoft's devices division) later let slip at a party that Bungie was going to announce a new Halo game (not necessarily Halo 4). Awesome. Great way to break the news.
• All this (as demonstrated) made the superintendent very sad .

I'm assuming that by "e-mailing everone you know" you mean "everyone you know in the gaming industry".
specifically gaming industry people with heavily trafficked blogs.
possibly those at bungie. Also possibly major nelson.

Thank you, sir! The upcoming reveal is still pretty vague (blame Bungie) but now I understand the reason for the video.
Edit:
And thank you to you too, Jer. Well played.

Nice singing Jer
I haven't been following E3 that heavily or anything that Bungie has been doing. It was kind of funny because the first I heard of that little guy was on this weeks LRRcast and then just hours later I get to not only learn his history BUT I get to enjoy a song and dance number.
Thanks guys

If I ever come up with something witty or interesting I'm not going to display it in plain sight for you buffoons to steal away.

Yeah, Paul did a fantastic job...and Jer's voice is filtered perfectly into the 'cute' range.
Props to Jer with the singing you should look at professional lessons because you have a great voice. (BTW how did you get the Garageband filter to be so smooth?)
What...you mean he's NOT a professional? He just happened to rawk with 'Ballad of the Fanboy' and 64k and more with no formal training?!?
*bows to Jer*
You, sir are epic win.
I had no idea about this whole travesty (I personally barely noticed E3 happening), but even without ANY foreknowledge or lead-in, I 'got' this vid and it really moved me; thanks for jerking my "awwwww" strings - it was great!
