This week’s video has touched down, and is currently taxing to the terminal. You can find it at boarding gate ‘E’.

This week’s video was a bit of an experiment. WE had this script that we really, really liked, but for whatever reason, the Capitol Region’s Airport Authority didn’t take particularly enthusiastically to a bunch of 20-something amateur film-makers descending (ha!) on their airport, to shoot a bunch of video of their more sensitive operations to publish on the internet. Your guess is as good as mine as to why this was, but alas, we didn’t have a control tower to shoot in.

Since we couldn’t shoot on location, and we knew we wouldn’t be able to fake up a set sufficiently well, we decided to try our hands at the video you see before you. Entirely hand drawn! Kathleen took care of the character art, Alex did the backgrounds, and Graham made it all go. As a result, we didn’t have to set this script to rest as something unfilmable, and you guys ended up with something visually fresh, and different!

Unskippable this week was an advance cutscene from Epic Mickey (a game I’m quite looking forward to.) You can find that update here.

  1. I’ve actually been in a control tower during operation, and numerous times at night…

Most the ATC work is done in a dark room in the basement…

  2. A really good first at animation.
Not flawless but amazing considering the time limits you guys must have been working under.
A few suggestions if you ever were to do it again (and I hope you do):
Keep the characters and backgrounds on different layers in the editing program then you can use key frames to animate them (walking into frame raising a hand).
Do some digital camera movements (digital zooms, pans ect,) to keep things more visually interesting.
Find someway to easily identify who is talking, maybe create an animated loop of a mouth moving to place on the character doing the talking, not sure how well that will work.
Anyway I know I maybe sounding like Ned Negative but I did really enjoy it and would love to see what else you guys could do in the format.

  3. even though they believe that LRR is a national security threat, does it not feel just a bit badass?

I really liked this sketch my only point to make is try and work on the animation, for a first time it was pretty good. I would love to see more animation from you guys.

  4. For a first time it, in my opinion, good. You recognize the characters , but on a sido note I thought that Cartoon-paul looked very much like (bad at names) . . . . .Tim?. . . . .Perhaps it was the beard.. . . ..

Please keep doing your stuff ^^
