8 Years

8 years.

I’m not giving that break in text for your benefit, it’s for me. If you could sit here with me as I write this you would have seen me erase 6 different follow up sentences to my opening line. That should give you an idea of how hard it is for me to comprehend how I’m still a part of something as special as LRR. Forget about the fact that I never would have guessed in a million years that after 8 years, not only would we still be putting out a video every week, but 4, AND continue to look for opportunities to create even more.

Originally I wasn’t going to do this post. I mean it was only 3 years ago that myself, Paul and Matt each shared a post on the blog about our feelings as we hit that milestone. But then today I got nostalgic (as I tend to do) and went back and started watching videos from our past, this in turn lead me to our in house Wiki. I made the mistake of visiting the videos page, and I began to scroll, and scroll and then I scrolled some more and finally I reached the end. I very quickly did my best to estimate just how many videos were listed on that page. My estimate came to somewhere between 800-900 videos.
.
.
.
Sorry, I needed a second to clean what is left of my head after it exploded all over my office.

900 FUCKING VIDEOS!!! AREN’T YOU PEOPLE COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY SICK AND TIRED OF US YET??!

I’ve now sat in my chair for 10 minutes looking at that number, It’s not the most incomprehensible number I’ve ever seen (See: Desert Bus) but it’s certainly up there.

So what does that number mean? Well to those that have been around awhile it means a solid back catalogue for you to go back and enjoy. For newcomers I can only imagine it’s on par with what newbies to Doctor Who feel like when they realize 11 different actors have played the same central character and there is over 700 episodes to be watched and analyzed (but seriously, just start with Eccleston)

But what about me? What does 900 videos and 8 years of this mean? In short, everything. LRR has become an enormous part of my life, and it has forever changed who I am as a person. And the fact that I get to share it all with some of my closest friends makes it all that much better. I said earlier that originally I wasn’t going to do this blog post due to the fact that only 3 years ago I did something very similar. Then I started thinking, the amount we’d been through at year 5 couldn’t even begin to step to what has happened in the last 3. The conventions we’ve been to, the amazing people we’ve been able to meet and become friends with. Our 2 nights with w00tstock, the relationships we’ve forged with The Escapist, the amazing folks over at Penny-Arcade and the guys from Wizards of the Coast (you seriously have no idea how excited I am to see how Friday Nights turned out) And beyond all of that, the continued growth and overwhelming success of Desert Bus for Hope.

The last 3 years have been nothing short of amazing, and more than ever I’m super excited to see what the future holds for us. Thanks to everyone that continues to watch and support us, you guys rock.

  4. I think it’s incredible that even after 900 videos, without fail, you guys still do at least one thing each week that makes me sit back and realise how great you guys are. I’m absolutely loving everything you are doing and I can’t wait to see where you’re headed in the future.

  6. At the end of this year Desert Bus will have raised over $600,000 for Child’s Play. That’s a head exploding stat right there.

  7. Tire of you guys? Never!

If your fans ever did get tired you wouldn’t exactly have gotten to 900 videos now, would you? 😛

I’m not entirely sure just when i hopped onto the LRR train (or maybe it’s just a bus, but whatever ;P), but i’ve enjoyed every minute of this years long journey.

Thanks to everyone on the LRR team for making the internet a funnier place to be 😀

  8. As if we’d get tired of you. Keep it up, guys, and I fully expect big Year 10 celebrations. Commemorative t-shirts or something maybe.

  9. Please, how could we ever get tired of LRR?! Honest to God, I look forward to my Mondays for new videos, whereas before Mondays were something to be dreaded because of the long week ahead.

    So thanks again for everything!

  10. Thank you guys for doing this, since I was shown your video Install anxiety (not the remake, sorry but remakes are never good, you should have seen that one coming, but I still love you all ^_^) I have been hooked on your videos. Every week without fail I know I can pop over to LRR.com check out some awesomely funny video each week and if it is just a 5 min video, then hey that’s 5min of me laughing or just having a good time. I hope that LRR does not stop, but I also hope you don’t burn out. Remember, we are your fans, you don’t owe us anything, I am not sure if I talk for everyone, and I probably don’t, but at the end of the day, if you stopped today, or tomorrow, I will still be a fan of your work. Thank you all for what you have done, I hope to see a big turn out for Desert Bus this year, it is always fun to watch you guys play that wonderful game for like 2 weeks.

    Thanks again,

  12. We haven’t gotten sick and tired because you haven’t stopped being good. You haven’t recycled, you haven’t phoned it in, you are all clearly giving this your all, and your efforts continue to pay off.

  13. We actually enjoy it every bit as much as you do!

I’m one of the guys that has been around for nearly the start. 7 years I’ve been watching the videos when my cousin in Canada got me introduced to you. I’ve watched you grow and improve, I’ve seen people come and go and I’ve been around for the times when your video hosts were bastards. Not really seen a Desert Bus! Damn time zones. But you guys do wonderful things. For your fans, for your friends and for the children!

It’s been a hell of a ride and your fans will be with you singing Top Gun’s Highway To The Danger Zone!

  15. 8 ways to LRR?

Way to rock it out, guys. I continually look forward to my “LRR fix” each week, and Desert Bus has become part of my around-Thanksgiving routine (I’m a US-based fan).

    Keep up the solid work!

  22. It’s been two years, I’ve gotten tired of a lot of things, LRR Is not one of them and I don’t think I ever will.

Keep up the brilliant work and congratulations on making the 8 year mark.

  23. I was only introduced to you guys in early 2011 by someone showing me the 3 ps3s video (which is awesome) I then went and spent a week just watching your back catalogue of videos which were all as awesome.
So heres to many more years of awesome from you guys.

    Comment by Zipa — October 15, 2011 @ 9:36 am

  24. Only been a viewer for 2 of those 8 years. LRR is in my mental box of things that no one can change my opinion on.
Hypothetically, if you all were to be melted we would be left with a tub of pure liquid awesome.
Never going to get sick of you guys!

  26. Nope, not only I have not grown tired of LRR, I love it even more.

LRR is one of the things that I look forward every week, since they always cheer me up, no matter how fucked things are.

Thank you for all those years of laughter. You rock!

And for some reason, I’m feeling all mushy… so I’m gonna go ahead and compensate by doing something manly.

    Comment by Wilsonx1999 — October 15, 2011 @ 10:52 am

  27. So I did some calculations on my own and counting all LRR affiliated vids (weekly updates, unskippable, ENN, Checkpoint, daily drop, checkpoint, vidcasts, and bonus vids such as phalhaus and on the run) I got the final count to be 1168 videos. That averages out to around 150 videos a year, which is insane. Add in 239 audio only LRR casts and that is a huge 1407 pieces of content.

    Keep up the amazing work.

  29. Been watching LRR for about 5 years now and I can’t imagine it’ll be stopping any time soon.
Cheers guys, thanks for the constant entertainment.

  30. I actually tried to do a slightly more exact count just now, and I got a total of 911, give or take about five depending on how many times I lost count. That is not including the Feed Dump Rejecteds, ENN Rejecteds, CheckPoint Rejecteds, LRR Vidcasts, the Crapshots, or any of the Bonus Videos.

    That’s AMAZING.

  31. you guys are amazing, I hope to be watching your videos for another 8 years!

    Comment by JOSHxUSEDxSPACExJUMP — October 15, 2011 @ 5:52 pm

  32. Sick? Heck no! Half the time, I watch the videos and wish I could be a part of something as grand as this myself!

That said, I instead really need to find a good way to catch up on the videos… how many are on DVD so far? And will there be a reprint of season 1?

    Comment by LBD "Nytetrayn" — October 16, 2011 @ 4:06 am

  33. I did have a massive thing wrote up about how awesome LRR is but to sum up you are the main thing I watch each week and you always impress and holy shit its been 8 years damn I was 12 when I started to watch, time flies when you are finding ways to escape from reality. Well I think that just about sums up what I had wrote.

    Comment by Hutler — October 16, 2011 @ 6:45 pm

  34. Been watching you Canadian yahoos since randomly catching the first Desert Bus (I always plan my papers and exams to work around that week).

Your enthusiasm and openness about your film-making are great, videos so consistently hilarious, and I think your friendship and positiveness throughout inspire many of us on the cusp of adulthood who worry that the other side might not allow us much manic times with friends or the chance to put big fun ideas into action.

Thanks for all you’ve done and continue to do 🙂

    Comment by Matt — October 16, 2011 @ 8:30 pm

  35. There’s not a thing I haven’t watched, a gag I haven’t chuckled at and who knows how many minutes that all adds up to- the main point being I don’t care; I don’t even need to know, it’s all been time well spent and I wish you guys all the best for having provided that. There may be better sources for news, but none of them come even close to yours =]

  36. You guys have gotten me through some of the shittiest times of my life. Thank you so much. On days when I felt like shit and didn’t want to get up the next, you guys reminded me that there is still humor.

    Seriously.

Thank you so much. Don’t ever stop.

  38. I started clubbing at my school last year. We club now, we’re clubbers. I’ve been bombed with a few two-liters, but it’s totally worth it.
    Thanks LRR.
