Important News Update RE: ENN
February 13th, 2011

Posted by Matt

Hi everyone, we’ve got some important news regarding ENN that you ought to be aware of. Unfortunately, we have to report that effective this week, ENN will be discontinuing updates. Fear not, though – the spirit of ENN will live on! After trying out the ENN Newsroom format, we listened carefully to your feedback, and over the coming weeks will be looking to take what we’ve learned and use it launch a new series in a similar vein. It won’t be ENN, but we’ll work hard to make it even better.

We’d like to thank the fans of the show (in all of its various formats) for enjoying the work we’ve produced, and we’d like to thank The Escapist for giving us the opportunity to take our idea and make it real. We’ve had a blast putting ENN together over the course of its run and we hope you’ve had just as much fun watching the results.

Going forward LoadingReadyRun, Daily Drop and Unskippable will continue to update weekly on The Escapist, and we’ll continue to work hard to bring you many more laughs.

Cheers.

  2. Sad news, but not entirely unexpected. I know whatever you guys do next is going to be awesome, though.

Just to clarify, is the new series going to be on the Escapist, or is that still an unknown?

  5. as much as I liked ENN its not hard to imagine thats its a format thats hard to keep up on, as fast as news changes. Pluss i did like newsroom more, just cause its closer to Phailhouse.

  6. I enjoyed ENN even though I don’t really play that many video games. I did take the podcast’s suggestion to watch the ONN TV show: that is biting and brilliant.

One thing you didn’t say was whether the eventual successor to ENN would be on The Escapist. I’m assuming it will but if ENN got cancelled… actually, ENN is now a cancelled show. Should we be petitioning on internet sites for its return? Instead of Browncoats, are we Ennheads?

I think we knew this was coming. I’m glad you’ve taken on board our feedback and fingers crossed this new show will be even more awesome.

  12. That sucks. Now we need something else to fill that Wednesday slot of LRR goodness.
Maybe a MTG show? Or Minecraft?! Alex would be all over both.

  13. That is sad, but to be honest, I’ve seen it coming for a while. I mean the format changes have been a dead giveaway that something wasn’t working right. Whatever the new series looks like, I know it will be a hit.

  14. It’ll be sad to see it go, but from its ashes a new phoenix of comedy will arise.

  15. Sound the Last Post…

Oh well, you have to do what you have to do. I’m sure the replacement series, if it comes to fruition, will be awesome.

  22. A moment’s silence for the passing of a glorious show. I miss will ENN, but I definitely look forward to whatever you come up with in it’s place.

  23. Crushingly disappointing news.

ENN was my favourite of your shows by a significant margin.

Here’s hoping that whatever you’re replacing it with can compare favourably.

  24. Yeah I was kind of expecting this to happen.
    Dang. I’m sad now.

  25. Here’s hoping ENN gets a good sendoff this week! Also, any chance we’ll finally get to see the end of Ryan Quickbender? I’d love to kick that jerk right in the cashbags.

  26. Will be missed. But hopefully something better can take its place.

    Good luck.

  29. Thanks for letting us know. I would have gotten anxious looking for the new episodes. I think I echo the support that I’ll miss ENN, but I’ve yet to be disappointed in your concepts, even when I was initially concerned about the Daily Drop. I hope your new show is something that you enjoy making. It seems when you make shows you enjoy, your fans tend to be happy as well.

  32. I think there was a great opportunity here for a final episode with cancellation jokes. Too bad it just ended.

    Comment by C — February 16, 2011 @ 6:14 pm

  33. I am fifteen kinds of sadface right now, but I really did enjoy the newsroom bits, so if you keep going in that vein, I’m all for it. Do what you gotta do, LRR. DFTBA.

    Comment by Pari — February 16, 2011 @ 6:26 pm

  34. Such a shame. Ever since their breaking story on the outbreak of the nerd flu, I have been hooked on this series. The bi-weekly announcement was disappointing, but this rings of utter tragedy. RIP ENN, you will be missed dearly.

On another note though, you should totally auction the logo off as merch or for desert bus in November. People would be psyched to own it, I think.

  35. Between Shamus Plays ending and now ENN, my Wednesdays are going downhill fast. 🙁

  36. Awwwww, so sad…. Will you guys be archiving the ENN vids, so we can watch them whenever we feel nostalgic?

    Comment by Danni — February 16, 2011 @ 9:17 pm

  37. Damn. Next to LRR, that was my favorite thing on the escapist.

    Their loss.

    Comment by Keith K — February 16, 2011 @ 9:32 pm

  38. I hope they realize that compared to ENN every online gaming news outlit was garbage.

    Comment by Plurrables — February 17, 2011 @ 12:38 am

  39. also the theme intro was freakin’ awesome.

It will be missed and their trigger fingers were a little too itchy for my liking but whatever. I’m not running the business, I’m just the person who looks at the ads that keep the site online… Ya’ know… Not important at all or anything… Shitting on me is a great thing to do.

    Comment by Plurrables — February 17, 2011 @ 12:40 am

  40. Aw man, that breaks my heart. I always loved ENN, especially in its original format, and even when you started experimenting with the package and introducing Headshots, Geargasm etc (“Money Shot” remains one of my favourite blink-and-you’ll-miss-it gags). My preference was always the drier stuff you started out on, take for example Graham’s mom’s guest appearance in an earlier, hard-hitting street report. I’m sorry ENN couldn’t find a place for the wider Escapist audience. It will be deeply missed. But, in the spirit of everything having a time and a place, I look forward to future incarnations, whatever they may bring and however they may appear.

  41. I was puzzled about where ENN was this week, and then I just found about about this. I have… no words.

ENN was there when I first discovered the Escapist, and actually working in the field of video game development, I fell in love with the series instantly.

I guess I can say that I really would have liked to have seen a sendoff episode, but what can anyone do, I suppose, hmm?

I’m gonna really miss that awesome orchestral score opening and, of course, the word of the week.

    Comment by Mark — February 18, 2011 @ 1:04 pm

  42. ENN was the best of your shows. I’m seriously pissed that you are canceling it. And I’m mad you didn’t give warning.

    Comment by Kathie — February 19, 2011 @ 9:36 am

  43. I can’t really speak for them, of course, but I strongly suspect that it wasn’t entirely up to the LRR crew to cancel this show, or else unexpected circumstances came up that simply made continuing it nonviable. Considering the announcement was apparently made on the 13th, only 3 days before their next otherwise scheduled show, that suggests to me that LRR didn’t know this was going to happen before then. I may be wrong, of course… but that’s just my 2c. Either way, I’m gonna really miss this show.

    Comment by Mark — February 19, 2011 @ 2:38 pm

  44. godsdammit! first firefly, the spectacular spider-man, now THIS! why must you crush all that I love !

good luck with the new thing.

  45. I want to add my two cents worth of condolences for the death of ENN. I loved ENN almost as much as I love Zero Punctuation.

Why does the Escapist keep canceling shows that I, and many others, like? Why can’t they cancel the crap shows? Maybe the crap shows are cheap and the quality shows are too expensive?

I’m sorry ENN was canceled. It made my humpday brighter. You will be missed.

    Comment by Mickey Blue Eyes — February 23, 2011 @ 12:57 pm

  46. Late post I know but I only just discovered it. This really saddens me, ENN is what got me into LRR and was my second favourite show on the escapist after the LRR sketches. But oh well, i suppose the escapist audience just couldn’t handle this much brilliance…

    Comment by Kayuwolf — February 25, 2011 @ 7:44 am

  47. I had no idea that ENN was cancelled – I’ve been looking forward to the new episode.

I’m glad that I came to this site specifically to check for ENN news, rather than mining your back catalogue.

    Comment by andy25100 — March 2, 2011 @ 4:27 pm

  49. Please explain, why. Is it just about successes of the show? or is there something else like copywriter problems or libel problems with companies. Did you say something they did not want to her about there trademark?
