Green

Sometimes a video will spring from the mind of its creator fully formed–like a Greek god, unexpectedly bursting from a non-womb part of his parent’s anatomy. Other times, a video will be written and languish in unfilmedness for a long time before finally being conjured into  existence. That is the case with this week’s video.

Tim actually wrote Green over a year ago, and would probably tell you it’s just an obvious joke taken to its zenith (likely without use of the word “zenith”). Even so, I have to applaud him for not actually using the most obvious reference of all re: being green. I also consider any video where we get to grease up and paint Morgan a worthwhile use of time. You might even recognize those garbage cans, which made a cameo in Just Drive a couple weeks ago — Just Drive was actually filmed the day after this video.

Hope you all enjoy it as much as we do! Thanks especially to Cherisse and Tally for helping us out on a busy Friday!

This week’s video was not supposed to happen … or at least it was not planned in the way that such things usually are. Despite the rigorous scheduling that has kept LRR on track for the last few weeks, there’s always room for a bit of spontaneity–that’s where we started from, after all. When Steve Jobs took ill last year, one of my regrets was that we’d never been able to lampoon his ever-popular keynotes; we all love him, so we’re happy he’s better … and we’re happy we got the opportunity to make this video as well.

The rule around the office this week has more-or-les shaken down to the following: anytime someone new enters a conversation, that conversation becomes a heated discussion of the iPad. Personally, I would love it if some mathematically-minded person could up with an equation for this. It would have to represent the conversation as a thing of changing states; the iPad would either be one of those states, or just the initial state (as most conversations start with the iPad as well, let’s not kid ourselves). So it would end up as Con(whatever state) + New Participant = Con(iPad). If you can put that into a cool-looking equation for me, you are my hero.

iPotato began its life as a hypothetical example from  Paul as to how we might do an iPad keynote parody. As with many of Paul’s ideas, his rough draft came out so fully-developed that we decided to run with it. Tim pointed out math errors in the script, I covered them with that liberal arts line, Graham added a late international release date; it’s great when a team comes together.

We can’t wait for you to go watch it yourself.

We think you’ll really enjoy … the iPotato.

Escaping from the Escapist? Look Here…

So today marks our second video post over at The Escapist, and perhaps you are yourself an Escapee, making your way over to our humble home to check out the various pieces of content we upload here, or to look into the history of LRR itself to see what you’ve missed. Admittedly, our promo spot from a few weeks back, while thorough, may not have been the most effective way to bring you up to date with our content, so first off I’m going to suggest you head over to our video archive. We have more than 400 videos in our backlog, so you’ll be kept busy if you want to watch it all.

There are a few you may have seen before out there on the internet, but not known they were us, like:

Halo: The Future of Gaming
Rejected Wii Play Games
How to Talk Like a Pirate

We also Did A webseries last year Titled “commodoreHUSTLE”, which you’ll find right here.

These were predated by a series of “Us playing Us” videos, in which we played out caricatures of ourselves. These should serve to familiarize yourself with the cast a bit, and the sorts of antics we get up to:

Moving Out
Lock Out
Bandwidth Exceeded
Format War
All The Little People
Son of a Bitch (a personal favorite, guess why :p )
And Bagel Time

Another great series to check out is X ways to Y. These serve as our exhaustive guide on how to do a variety of mundane tasks.

So yeah, we do videos.

Don’t write us off as a one trick pony though. We do a variety of other things too!

Tim produces a behind the scenes bonus video series by the name of “Loading Time”.

Graham occasionally produces a vidblog… ish… thing By the name of “Phailhaus” (though I’ve been known to do them myself)

And then of course there’s the Iron Stomach Challenge videos in which the cast eats gross things.

Hm… I guess those are videos too. Ok, we do a LOT of videos.

As far as other content is concerned though, we have a podcast.

We have a store. (in which you’ll find a new shirt design up for order every month…ish).

We have a forum where you can chat with all of the hardcore LRR fans.

We have a Twitter account (@LoadingReadyRun) on which we post little day to day updates on the status of the website, or what we’re up to.

And we have this blog, where we’ll be posting news and announcements, as well as information regarding appearances, screenings, and other neat stuff!

So basically, what I’m saying is throw LoadingReadyRun.com into your bookmarks, and make sure to come by every coupe of days. The content we post on the escapist is only a small part of the full LRR experience, and we wouldn’t want you to miss out!

Thanks for stopping by, and we hope you’ll keep coming back!

The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same… Except Not.

So, if you’re reading this, you’ve probably noticed that things look pretty different around here all of a sudden. Now, I know what you’re thinking, (“OHGODOHGODOHGOD CHANGE! I AM SCARED AND ANGRY!”), but before you freak completely I want to run down some of the new things around here, why they changed, and what they mean for the future.

If you’re a member of our forums, (found here: http://www.loadingreadyrun.com/forum ) You’re probably aware of the fact that we have signed a distribution deal with The Escapist (http://escapistmagazine.com) for our videos. If you aren’t a member, and you were heretofore unaware, well, now you know. The effect of this on your viewing experience should be fairly minor, though the link to our video above will now direct to The Escapist, rather than to a video page on this site. There will still be a discussion thread for our videos in both our forum and on The Escapist though, so you can feel free to comment in either, (or both!) if you wish. In conjunction with video link above, you will also notice the addition of links to our other Escapist video series, ENN and Unskippable. From now on we’ll be linking to those updates directly as well. We will still be hosting all of our Loading Time, Phailhaus, ISC and bonus videos through YouTube, with video pages here, though, it’s just the regular Monday updates that will be distributed via The Escapist.

Another major change that you’ve already noticed is that the last 3 posts from the blog are now displayed right here on the front page. In the past, our blog has been somewhat underutilized – both because we slacked off in writing for it, and because it wasn’t drawing a whole lot of readership. So, In the interest of communicating better with our viewers, particularly those who haven’t joined our forum community, we’ve bumped our recent updates right onto the front page. You can look here for news posts, appearance announcements and con schedules, behind the scenes photos, and preview pictures, along with a variety of other content.

To the right, you’ll notice that we’ve also included a repeater for the @loadingreadyrun Twitter account. We use our twitter account to post little updates from day to day about the goings on of the crew, filming, podcasting and so on. So, if you’re not on Twitter, you can just hit our main page to see what’s going on between updates, and if you are on Twitter, you can follow that account to get the updates directly in your timeline.

You’ll also notice that the “About Us” page has been updated with a more complete and expanded cast roster. The people listed as part of the cast are the people you can expect to see in videos nearly every week, and they’ll be the people producing content, updating this blog, and interacting with the forums the most. The contributors section is devoted to those people who support us behind the scenes, make guest appearances and who help us out whenever they can. We wanted to make sure that all the people who regularly help make our videos what they are got the credit they deserve. We couldn’t do all this without them, and they deserve to be recognized for their contributions.

Finally, we’ve also updated our LRR Store (found here http://loadingreadyrun.com/store/) with a new layout and t-shirt design that you can order. From now on we’ll be introducing shirts via pre-order system, with a new shirt design every month! Watch the video on the store page for more information on exactly how it’s going to work.

Hopefully this post has answered most of your questions, and will help ease the transition to LoadingReadyRun 7.0 and our partnership with The Escapist. If you have any further questions or concerns, I’ve set up a thread in our General forum for you to comment in. You can find it here: http://lrr.cc/f/11350. Thanks for reading, and we hope you enjoy watching our future videos as much as much as we enjoy making them!

Behind the Scenes: House of the Dead
November 19th, 2009

Posted by Matt

Hey hey, Matt here with some behind the scenes photo’s for House of the Dead!

This was a long shoot, but so very worth it. To get this one done we had to wrangle a large number of people, which is always a hassle. We also did costumes and make-up, which we aren’t really accustomed to. It also didn’t help that the weather that morning was an onslaught of torrential rain. I haven’t got much to add for this video that wasn’t covered in the podcast, but I should offer a big thank you to everyone shown in these pictures – they may not all have been in the video, but we couldn’t have made it without them.

Enjoy!
