From Revver to Blip.tv
November 10th, 2008

For the last 2 years LRR has been using Revver to serve all our videos. There servers have been pretty fast, their player is customizable and they automatically transcode into both quicktime and flash. The ad revenue they have provided has enabled us to do many things we would not have been able to otherwise, such as purchasing the bus for the San Diego Road Trip and upgrading our equipment. It has also helped with the rent for the LRR Orbiting Underground Moon Base (rocket fuel, alone, costs a pretty penny, let me tell you).

Unfortunately, for the past several months, Revver’s quality of service has been very problematic. Extremely slow trans-coding resulted in many late video updates and often video uploads were truncated or corrupted, requiring multiple retries. On top of this, revenue generated by Revver and the quality of ads they are providing has been steadily declining and they have not issued a payout to creators since September. The final straw was when all Revver videos suddenly stopped working for a large group of our viewers using Time-Warner for their ISP. Now here we are, two weeks later, the situation still hasn’t been fixed and we are stuck apologizing for something that we have no control over. Not Cool.

This is all a lead up to tell you that we have now switched over to Blip.tv for our video hosting! Not only are the videos now higher quality, but Blip’s interface allows us to upload much faster, so hopefully there will be less late updates. At the moment, only the latest videos have been moved over, but we will hopefully be migrating everything over in the coming weeks.

As a side note, in response to this problem with Revver, I have changed the LRR backend to de-couple us from any video host. What this means is that if Blip doesn’t work for us for whatever reason, we can easily change to someone else.

As always, please let me know if you experience any weirdness or issues with the new player.

Season 4 DVD now available!

The long wait is over! LoadingReadyRun Season 4 DVD is now available in the LRR Noob store!

What are on this DVD, you ask? How about every video from Season 4 of LoadingReadyRun? Everything from Those Games we played to The Season 4 Finale, over 3 hours of hilarious videos in full DVD quality on 3 discs! Not enough? Did I mention that every one of those videos has a commentary track with the cast and crew? No bullshit “selected scenes” commentary tracks here. Still not enough? Jeez, you got a lot of nerve, don’t you? Well don’t worry, ’cause we somehow found room for over an hour of bloopers, outtakes, and never before seen unaired videos, including two new Evil Inc. shorts. We

even grabbed some of the awesome YouTube responses to 3 PS3s and put those on too!

In fact, these DVDs are so chock full of great content, I’m pretty sure we are violating some kind of awesomeness per square centimeter regulation, but we don’t care!

BUY IT NOW!

Please note: Season 4 is the only season that is currently available, we are working on reprinting the older seasons but they will not be available for a while. When they do come back, there will not be a DVD combo pack! Don’t put off purchasing Season 4 because you are waiting for the other seasons!

Ask An Alex – Live!

As some of you may know, we were hoping to stream parts of the Loading Ready Run 5 Year Anniversary Live Screening (the LRR 5 YALS) live on the internet. Unfortunately, circumstances prevented this from happening. Even more unfortunately, quite a few people who were hoping to watch the stream were suddenly left in the lurch with nothing to watch.

Luckily for those people, Alex Steacy saved the day by putting up a webcam stream and holding a live Ask An Alex event. For more information about what happened during AAA Live, check the wiki page here.

Since the impromptu AAA Live was so successful, Alex recently made the following announcement:

Hey guys! This Saturday it will have been a week since my impromptu Q&A session on webcam, so I think its only appropriate that we do it again!

This week however, I plan to try something slightly different which may or may not turn out well – but we’ll see if it works. I will be broadcasting a live, improvised show based on questions from the irc feed for 30-45 minutes, and simultaneously taping the event using a proper camera, the footage from which will be used to edit down a LRR-length video with SFX and visuals to match.

That having been stated, please tune in at:

http://www.ustream.tv/channel/askanalexlive

I will go live at ~8:00PM EDT (I think) on Saturday, October 25, but feel free to congregate and chat among yourselves before we get underway.

Here’s hoping things go well!

Behind the Scenes – RapStar 64K

No problems getting a location for this video. We’re lucky enough that Paul’s dad operates the “Movie Monday” free screening night in Victoria, which coincidentally is where we held the 5th Anniversary Screening.

The first challenge was getting all the costumes to the locations, and making sure that we didn’t forget any. The Warriors costumes alone take up an entire large Rubbermaid tub. We also had a couple new costumes to keep track of. Kind of a complex shoot in that regard, but the rest of it was pretty straightforward.

Enjoy these pictures.
