On-Set Pictures from Past Videos

A couple of these videos may be a month or so old, but hey! We like showing you pictures, and you like seeing them, so it’s win-win!

This was a really fun shoot, and I wish we’d taken more snaps. Thanks again to Mr. Tubbs Ice Cream Parlor for the great location.

Really, it’s all about Matt in a luchadore mask. A real one, that James brought home from Mexico! (Yes, we know it’s Rey Mysterio.)

  • And, best for last, a heaping helping of photos from behind the scenes of Redundancy.

This should give you a better idea of what the “set” that is my living room looks like. We’ve also used it in Frozen Assets and Reduce Your Footprint.

Behind the Scenes: Informational Presentation

So, admittedly our video update post was a little weak, as was our behind the scenes pic, which I shot with my iPhone. However, the lackluster nature of that post means that there’s some extra content to be posted today! Specifically, I have some pictures that Graham shot on his spiffy keen new SLR. Behold the depth of field! Marvel at it’s colour saturation. Be… satisfied that they’re actually in focus.

Regarding the actual filming of the video, Graham had the following to say:

“We shot this all the new Moonbase, just moving various furniture around and re-hanging different posters on the same picture hook. Since I really wanted to use the dolly for that one, long shot of Kathleen talking, I figured we may as well use it for other side-tracking shots as well. I mean, if we can’t be bothered to use that behemoth when it’s in the same building, then when will we use it?

The trick with the big shot though, is that there’s a table in the way, so the dolly by itself won’t work. That meant we had to also had to bust out the jib, which is possibly even more difficult to lug around. That way, the camera could move over top of the table, right up to Kathleen. Filming techniques! Yay!”

Take a look at the gallery below, and it should give you a real appreciation for the close quarters we were working in, and the true unwieldiness of our rig. Yes, that totally is the camera case being used as a counterweight. We’re ghetto like that.

Behind-the-Scenes: Skeeterpellant & Stand-Up Guy

Thought you’d all enjoy another round of behind-the-scenes photos. I snapped most of these during shooting for our last couple videos.

‘Skeeterpellant was a pretty quick shoot, once Paul helped Matt set up his 5-man tent. We put the dolly track riding up to, and into, the tent for a nice opening shot, and then I just pretty much talked. Had to shave my beard off too, and it’s almost come back, thankfully. Jer did a great job on the ‘Skeeterpellant label, which features a warning against Shreiking Explosive Diarrhea… seems like radiation is an easy out.

Stand-Up Guy was also a pretty straightforward shoot. I had been trying to figure out how to do the off-balcony-hurling, without resorting to a dummy, which always look fake. That’s fine in some cases, but we didn’t want that to be the joke. So I gave Matt the mission of stuffing my pants full of whatever he felt would work, which ended up being two pillows and a sleeping bag. Then he crouched behind Tim and flung the fake pants up at the right time for a smoooooth edit, if I say so myself. I can’t help it, I giggle every time I see it.
