Re: Bill.
I met Bill once, in the Summer of 2007, in Victoria. My then-girlfriend (now wife) and I ran into Paul and Graham at one of PAX's concerts, and, being the consummate gentlemen they are, they invited us to come see some of British Columbia afterwards, on what would turn out to be a memorable trip. A ...

Re: IPv4 address exhaustion
Hi. Network engineer, here. That means it's my job to deal with things like IP addresses. This is not the end of the world, or the end of the Internet. It will make being an ISP slightly complicated in the short run, and very complicated in the long run. The change from IPv4 to IPv6 will probably be...

Yes yes what I'm here yes hi.
I'm in Arizona now, so probably no fire this year.
I have other plans, though.

Re: The quasi-official Desert Bus IV thread
You guys are awesome! Do you know how long it will actually take you drive from Tuscon to Vegas including stops, Sable? 7 hours, 23 minutes along the most direct route, according to Google Maps. I believe this also takes into consideration local speed limits. I don't plan on offering my $100 per po...

According to Google Maps, going the speed limit the whole way is about eight hours. Stopping for snacks and gas, probably closer to 9-10.

Re: The quasi-official Desert Bus IV thread
I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but my better half and I have a Desert Bus challenge - to donators! If The Crew (tm) choose to integrate it into some sort of announcement, that would be peachy keen, we want to help. I live very near to Tucson, Arizona. I possess a driver's licens...

Re: Videogame Fighting Tournament
I hate to be the Voice of What The Hell, but something is hella screwed up with the Escapist's video player. My CPU spikes to 100% on both cores and the video judders really badly. I'm on a Macbook Pro from late 2008 (2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, only the browser open) running Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Y...

Did you know that pineapples only develop into...pineapples...when their natural pollinators, hummingbirds, are absent? This is why importing hummingbirds to Hawaii is a get-fed-to-the-pigs kind of infraction.

I have two accounts, one for small ship stuff and making money, the other for being a capital pilot (You really do wind up giving a character up to be a capital pilot, and you give it up forever if you make it to supercapitals.) I lived in a place for a long time (And I will probably go back) where it was entirely possible that nature was going to kill you. I lived in Southeast Alaska, which is kind of like British Columbia without roads. It's nothing at all like Seattle. As such, and in that fairly limited view, I'm in gen...

Re: The "Change Tim's Mind About Blade Runner" Thread
I want to own a copy of Deckard's pistol. Adam Savage can help you with that. As far as Blade Runner as a film goes, I'll admit it's been a while since I've seen it. My recollections might be a little dusty. I've always liked the film, but I don't think it's the greatest science fiction story ever ...

The MakerBot, from MakerBot Industries, is about a thousand dollars. It is a complete 3D printing device that can make very complicated things. It works with a great open-source modeling program, and you can download things to print from a site called Thingiverse. It makes them out of ABS plastic. I...

From what I can read, "hyper-miling" is exactly the same as "driving responsibly." I regularly get 30mpg or more out of my 250-horsepower two-ton rear-wheel-drive sport sedan. I guess I'm awesome? I mean, I could push my eyeballs through the back of my head at every light, but I ...

Re: So I've noticed
I moved to Arizona back in October of last year. It's been a bit of a change. I also finally sold my beloved go-anywhere do-anything go-go-gadget Audi uberwagon. I was sad to see it go, but the roads here don't need to be subjugated and conquered the same way they do in Alaska. Edit: When I moved, I...

I like both.
If I'm driving a big truck or a van, I like having an automatic, it makes handling an already-unwieldy vehicle a bit easier.
In my BMW, I cannot live without the manual. It is my favourite thing ever.
