Re: Science Questions

I was reading a thing about Pythagoras and a discovery of his that I find kind of beautiful: Two copies of the same string (plucked, bowed or hammered), subject to the same tension, make tones that sound good together when their lengths are precise ratios of whole numbers. ie. A ratio of 1:2 forms a...

Re: Venting Thread Delta - Now With Easy to Follow Rules

Today I saw a man dispose of his cigarette butt on the ground, though there was a bin only five paces away. Sometimes I feel like it isn't that people don't care about littering, but that they're actually choosing to cover our planet in trash. And to me this is indicative of a larger issue: Then the...

Re: The Limited thread

@unpronounceable: I absolutely agree with Memo here, a third colour splash is usually only sensible if you find an exceptionally good card in a third colour and if you're in a set with common fixing (or happen to have already picked up some fixing). If one of your colours is very much obviously not ...

Re: Standard Discussion

So I just came across the Cryptolith Grinder combo on Reddit, go on this journey with me: Turn 1: Mountain, Kolaghan Stormsinger (or Lightning Berserker or Village Messenger or Zurgo). Turn 2: Forest, Cryptolith Rite, tap Stormsinger for a second Stormsinger, (maybe chain a few more)...

Re: Standard Discussion

6th place at game day with my spirits, made a few last minute changes: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/peppers-ghost/ Really happy with where the deck is at the moment, (the single Day's Undoing was hilarious). Again we had a fairly diverse range of decks, Standard seems pretty sweet at the moment. A...

@chetoos: square1 & I floated ideas for Pact/Purge further up the page, check these out for inspiration on good/terrible ideas for builds respectively. Could be a really cool deck, I'm interested to see what direction people start brewing with it. @NecroVale: I think you've hit the nail on the h...

Re: Standard Discussion

@Kapol: Personally I'd run 22 or 23 lands with that curve, but certainly I never like to go below 15 sources of each colour with a roughly evenly split two-colour deck. (I probably lean towards the over-cautious end of the spectrum with regards to variance though). @JamesTheNecroMage: Welcome, Kapol...

Re: Hedron Alignment in Standard

Don't forget you'll also need a way to get a Hedron Alignment into exile, unfortunately there are very few ways to do this in standard at the moment - the only things that come to mind are Nahiri and Sigarda, (either of which would put you into four colours...).

Re: Standard Discussion

I think mono-black control could certainly be a thing - there's bunches of hand attack, targeted removal and mass removal all relatively inexpensive. Erebos's Titan and Inverter of Truth (maybe) make fine finishers. Speaking of Demonic Pact, I was playing around with reviving ColdHands.dec - Torment...

Re: how to sell my collection

Most online traders will have relatively quick to navigate buylists. Some will offer pretty decent prices, but some most definitely will not - so it's definitely worth shopping around, cardkingdom.com probably have some of the best prices but if you live outside the US then international shipping ca...

Re: Standard Discussion

Good points, and much respect for staying on-flavour. I think even without hitting delirium Scourge Wolf is pretty solid though, turn 2 he's going to be a wonderful nuisance against most decks, and CoCo'ing in a first strike creature seems... well he is only a 2/2, maybe not that great, (I just real...

Re: Standard Discussion

@Atifexe: thanks for setting me straight, good to know should it come up. @Kapol: CoCo Pups is best deck name ever, also the deck does look like a lot of fun. I'm wondering if there are particular styles of deck that lend themselves better than others to get your puppies transforming? For instance d...

Re: Standard Discussion

Taking a stab at mono-red: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/what-the-devil-1/ Hellion is a beast with Angel/Devils/Judgement/Chandra, Goggles & Mirrorpool make entirely too many tokens and interact interestingly with Avacyn's Judgement (someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that even if yo...

Re: Standard Discussion

Big fliers are usually pretty solid against Bant Company, but for more specific sideboard options - I've had great success with Hallowed Moonlight, and White has some very good hard removal at the moment which I feel would be useful. Red Eldrazi is a tricky one for Selesnya, Declaration in Stone can...

Re: Standard Discussion

Running out of gas seems like mono-red's main concern, Wreckage & Gorge give you a little bit of late-game reach (and the latter helps turn on Scourge Wolf), but in a deck of only 16-18 lands I think there is a danger of cutting too many red sources. On the plus side though, colourless mana sour...

Re: Standard Discussion

The one thing Collected Company does for me in that deck is make it cool. Which for most people is probably not considered criteria for deciding what gets into a deck? Another take on w/u humans, less aggressive early on but more ETBs and more Fresh Prince: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/09-04-16-qe...

Re: The Limited thread

On Friday I opened what may well have been my first three magic packs for my first draft. I made a green-white token generating mess, and somehow I went 1-1-1. It was enough to win 2 packs at any rate. Looking at my deck, there are a lot of problems with it. In particular, I really needed removal. ...

Re: Standard Discussion

A point to note: you won't be able to attack with Ormendahl on the same turn as sacrificing a Mockery token to the Abbey, giving your opponent a turn to find removal (and a vicious 6-for-1 in their favour).

Re: The depressing depression thread

I've had this problem before, in different gardens, I don't know why they started and I don't know why they stopped. As a bird-lover it is heartbreaking and traumatic, I feel your pain. Is there anywhere further from the window you can move it? Maybe just moving it anywhere will change up their rout...

Re: Standard Discussion

@chetoos: Seconding Reflector Mage, he makes an awesome top-end for weenie decks to get rid of pesky blockers and delay opponents' threats, and combos brilliantly with Mockery. Your only other Mockery target other than Lieutenant is Thraben Inspector (who isn't really the aggressive 1-drop this deck...

Re: SoI Prerelease - How'd You Do?

Went 4-1 with W/G fliers/equipment, 3rd place overall. This set is so much fun, everybody I played against and deck-built with had lots of cool stuff going on in their pools, and everybody had a bunch of cards they were excited about for their respective constructed environment of choice. Things I l...

Re: Standard Discussion

After seeing Jimmy Wong's green/white deck I kinda want to make blue/green investigate a thing, but I'm really not sure if it's fast enough; it seems like there's a lot of fast, evasive creatures and you'd have trouble slowing down the game enough to get all the green cares-about-clues cards to coo...

Unable to view google docs on my ancient internet portal, so apologies if this is already on:

Westvale Abbey / Profane Prince = West Philadelphia / Fresh Prince

Some cracking nicknames in the thread so far, will be trying to force some of them at the prerelease.

Re: Teach Me(et all) Your Religion!

I'm a Humanist. I get a lot of condescending laughs when I tell people I believe in humanity, but I think it needs someone to believe in it. Basically, I want people to be able to be who they want, do what they want and go where they want, and I try to make that possible in what small ways I can. I...
