Re: Apparently, "The Cult of Apple" is, arguably, exactly that!

Oh Apple, what a company. Or at least, what a marketing department, I would seriously love to learn from them, find out how they continue to convince people to buy these things. "Look, it has cameras now!" is not a selling point for what is primarily an e-reader/internet tablet, nor is &q...

Re: Doctor Who

I loved it! I loved the fact that the only person the doctor is really in love with is the Tardis. It was just so perfect!

Anyway, I'm watching it again, just because I loved it. So far, (to me) this season has been the most consistant and solid and entertaining.

Re: Stay Classy, Victoria

If you think about it, the price of $60,000 isn't that bad. If you have to have a security guard at the public restroom, just paying one person 24/7 minimum wage (I'm assuming around $8/hr) it would be $70,080/year just to pay the security guards wages. If the $60,000 price tag was a one time deal, ...

Re: Football

I wish I could get into football. But I live in the US and can't afford the fancy soccer channels (or even cable for that matter)... I sort of keep up with big things... by which I mean I read the dirty tackle and laugh.

Re: Venting Thread Beta

I always feel better after I've exercised. Like its a way I can say "see I'm physically doing something". Also I can eat a little bit more when I exercise and it lets me have a few treats without feeling guilty.

Re: Venting Thread Beta

Thanks guys. 2Steps, we should totally do this together. I still have at least another 50lbs to go (to be 'healthy' according to BMI I need to lose 90 more), which is making this so frustrating. I'm going back to the gym now that the majority of undergrads are gone and the gyms aren't crazy packed. ...

Re: Doctor Who

just watched the episode again and about the missing pirate: Are you all talking about the one who runs away while they're hiding in the ammo room? Because they show him getting burned by the thing he lit on fire to see and then it goes dark and i think we're supposed to assume he got got by...

Re: Doctor Who

One other thing that did rankle somewhat, after discussing the episode with my sister, was the kinda crap CPR that was performed on Rory at the end. Sure she hasn't done it before, but her technique was poor, she missed out several important parts (including holding his nose when breathing ...

Re: Venting Thread Beta

UGh, I hate myself sometimes. I was working hard for a year on my health and weight and I was doing really well. I lost 50 lbs and my health was going well, my insulin levels were getting back to normal and I was able to lower the dosage on some of my meds. Now the last month I don't know why but I ...

I am so sick of hearing "Just get some rest." It hasn't worked! It's ALL I've been doing! STILL got stabbing pains in my chest! (Right side, so it's not the heart as far as I know or they're concerned. Which is also the reason they aren't checking it out.) heart burn? No really, my mom ac...

Re: Venting Thread Beta

So my jazz band had a gig this weekend at a local resteraunt. It went well and was a good time. Well, come Sunday night, I am told that someone found a bunch of my sheet music crumpled in a ball on the ground of the parking lot. I thought "okay, no big deal. I can still probably read it."...

Re: Britain, Canada and America: A cultural tete a tete a tete

In Britain there are plenty of people who complain about the NHS (National Health Service) but they would complain a whole lot more with the American health service. My question concerns the American health service. To my limited knowledge it seems extremely immoral to withhold treatment from someo...

Re: What have you written lately? Scholars: share your views!

Proposals are worse than papers since there is a hard deadline. I spent the second half of February and the first half of March writing a telescope proposal. My proposal was not successful but one of the other proposals from our group was successful so we got the time that we wanted. Yeah we have o...

Re: Elder Generations Lament Decline of Handwriting

I usually start out printing and then switch to cursive as my hand gets tired. I don't think it matters whether you write cursive or print, but dear god they need to keep teaching penmanship. There will almost never be a time where we don't write something down that someone else needs to read. And i...

If I'm not wearing jeans or I'm wearing pants with no pockets, everything gets thrown in a purse

Yeah if the flat is on school grounds, i think they can do whatever they want with your internet. I mean, they don't even have to give you internet, etc. Do you have a smartphone? You could probably get around this is you have a phone that you can tether or even just use the phone to go on the inter...

I've attempted to snowboard a few times, but I never got the hang of stopping.... I would start going and then scare myself because I started going fast, so I would make myself fall on my ass.

I'm sure I could get the hang of it if I went a few more times, but I don't really have the time or money
