Oh hey, I too grew up in a house from the 1890's. My parent's still live in it.

They are fun. The boards creak at night, (it can even sound like slow footsteps when several creak one after another). And close a door on one side of the house can move a door on the other (or just make them rattle a little). There is also a train line about 2km away, so late at night you can hear the deep droning of a train as it goes past.

However, one side has been renovated so from the outside people don't realise just how old it is.

Out of curiosity, was Paul referring to Rifftrax Live: House On Haunted Hill with the Paul F. Tompkins bit? Or is that just a known thing for him?

You mention driving behind a log truck and being reminded of Final Destination. I get the same feeling when I drive past a tractor or truck towing some sort of farming implement like a planter, or some sort of harrow that has long heavy looking arms with sharp pointy things at the bottom.

In travel, the arms are chained up in a triangle position. So, when I drive by one, I always worry that a chain will break and one of those arms will fall right on top of my car and/or go right through the windshield.

Having played the original Fatal Frame, I still remember this combo of two rooms. One had a white noise static that always played, and the next room was completely quiet. And you had to pass through these two rooms to get to a segment of the map.
And at first, you assume the static was a ghost going to get you. And nothing. Then complete silence, Oh this is where something happens....and nothing.
And you pass back through....and nothing.

It was when you had stopped thinking about these rooms as a place of threat is when the game throws a ghost fight at you and just effs your headspace. That game was good about keeping you scared without throwing so much at you that it became commonplace and lost the sense of horror.
I'm not insane. I just have an overly vivid imagination!
