After signing up recently, I know one of the questions to verify you're not a bot is just typing in Loading Ready Run- maybe this could be changed, as I'm sure people can set up Bots so they can get around that.

OK, whatever spam system is in place right now is clearly not working.
Ideas? Suggestions?
Perhaps when a new account is made, they can make one post, and after it's reviewed and found to be lacking in spam, then they get their account unlocked.

Maybe there could be a list of acceptable answers for "first video watched" and any answer not on the list must be checked by a moderator first?
Although it is possible that would be too much work...

I don't see why that'd be too much work. On the other hand, the CAPTCHA that's already there don't seem to be working. So...

Here's another idea: regularly wipe ALL accounts with zero posts. We know the spammers are creating accounts en-masse, and then letting them sit to "lull us into a false sense of security". Wouldn't clearing all no-post accounts fix that?

Re: SpaMEGAdon
Not really. Most spam is posted by newly-created accounts... usually the spam accounts that are created and then left to sit end up sitting there forever and never end up posting. They're relatively harmless.

Can they get through email verification with ease? That should hinder a lot of them.

I don't know how but the spammers seem to know that I was out of town... I came back from PAX East to spam everywhere!
In all seriousness: there's been an influx of spam, and surprisingly it seems to be coming from two new places: India, and France. Wonder what caused that shift?

Add Russia to your list. But it makes sense when you think about it:
Many forums have blacklists and add whole phrases once the trend becomes clear. By changing the language you circumvent these filters and larger boards can be multilingual so you couldn't just ban anything not in english.
This may also be, why links are now in signatures, not the message body and why they tend to crop up, when North America is asleep.
This might be solved by counting reports: Have a post simply go inactive once more than ten people reported it. They won't see it, Mods or Admins get a nice list of reported topics and can delete them with one click.
