Favorite Duels of the Planeswalkers Decks

Postby xanderhunter » 13 Mar 2013, 07:35

Just wondering what everyone's favorite decks were for DotP, either the original,2012, or 2013.

For me personally it was Ears of the Elves (for obvious reasons, it being the only 2 color deck) And also the three color decks Claws of Vengeance and Scales of Fury.

As for 2013, the only deck I have really played is Exalted Darkness mostly because I was a fan of the mechanic and with the removal of the custom duel options it is a lot harder to unlock all the cards for the other decks (tell me you never gave yourself 40 life and 9 starting cards while giving the AI 5 starting cards and 20 life while unlocking decks in the original).

Edit: Don't actually have 2012 myself, nor the expansion packs for original or 2013 so I just found out each game had 3 expansions with more decks so I feel quite silly.

I've been systematically working through the 2013 decks. Here's my thoughts.

Chandra: ERMAHGERD FLRVR. Plus I just like the Phoenix mechanic, as it's resistant to milling and removal. Ultimately my only qualm was that she can't hold the ground down in Planechase.

Garruk: Effective (usually), but boring. Get big beasties, crunch in. Kind of an uninspiring win condition.

Jace: Now we're talking. This deck's card-draw-based mill method is kinda funky (and half the time it helps your opponents dig up answers to your scant creatures), but I like Beleren's style.

Krenko: Synergy! Speed! Disposable creatures running in packs! This deck was almost too easy to play with, so while fun it's not my favorite.

Liliana: Aren't decks supposed to work together? I feel like this deck is two or three win conditions lumped into one loose assemblage. Looking for land, pumping for B, trawling the graveyard, forcing discards, tutoring for your bombs, and premium removal like Murder are all strong in their way, but it lacks a unified premise other than "achieve card advantage". Then again I haven't fully unlocked this one so maybe it all makes sense later.
