I assume Cam was responsible for the equations and that they are something to do with quantum chemistry.

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
One thing I think this video needed was more Montage. Just didn't have enough.
Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
He also wanted to do the Korra thing, which was awesome.Lord Chrusher wrote:I assume Cam was responsible for the equations and that they are something to do with quantum chemistry.

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
I loved it. Such meta. Much montage. Wow. Very funny.

I assume that you guys forgot to film the bit where you actually did math, and so that was the late pickup you mentioned in the email.

I'm going to try learning other things with that music playing and someone filming me skimming books and stuff. I'll let you all know how it goes, but it seems simple enough...

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
Mega meta montage movie madness! Excellent this is exactly what I thought professional math people do in their off time. Also I have to watch more Korra because I didn't see it, or maybe get it. Either way I have to watch more.
I may not be funny or witty, but that does not make me less strange.

Are those the stairs from the training montage in Underpantaloons?

No, it was the shot where they're watching Rocky. We felt it was necessary for the video, and we'd bought the BluRay especially for it.SomeCallMeTim wrote:I assume that you guys forgot to film the bit where you actually did math, and so that was the late pickup you mentioned in the email.
Well spotted. I'd like to thank a steadicam for making this one better.Psyclone wrote:Are those the stairs from the training montage in Underpantaloons?
Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
Well that was epic, and the music was awesome. I hope we see them again, as two math teachers who have the power of Montage would make a good superhero team.
Can someone please explain the Korra reference?

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
While I'm sure you just had Paul running that small section of track, I choose to believe that he had to run a full lap for each take. And also that you guys suddenly had random, minor problems (speck of dust on lens, there was a bug waaaaay in the background, etc.) requiring an ungodly number of takes.

I tried. With a crappy online gifmaker whose images apparently don't work outside their webpage.
Also, I just now realized that all mathematicians wear labcoats.

I’ve always preferred my training in montage form.

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
Presumably they're using the lab coats as sketch comedy shorthand instead of actual protective gear. In my experience, most mathematicians stay far away from anything reactive, corrosive, or otherwise harmful (unless you consider Laplace transforms hazardous)
I was really expecting the stinger to be Paul using his fitness training to knock Cam out instead of bothering with the whole "math" thing...

I think this is the first time I guessed the writer for the sketch correctly.

KingKool - possibly cause Saturday is when the early-access people get it.
I am now convinced that Bradley Rains is an actual magician.
I mean seriously,
You want 80s montage music? Here, let me just whip up something that sounds like it came straight out of MacGyver!

Re: NEW VIDEO - Math of the Montage
I have been thinking about the meaning of the equations on the blackboard. They are to do with time independent quantum mechanics. The ones in the middle are calculating the energy of something. Taken together with the molecule on the far left, I am guessing the equations are about using some sort of approximate method, likely the WKB approximation, to solve the Schrödinger equation in relation to molecular bonds.
