Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft Movie?
Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft Movie?
I love the "Sam Raimi" references in the "Ways to" shorts that LRR has made. Since the LRR crew made these references in good humor, I figured you guys would be interested in this!
Today Sam signed on to direct the World of Warcraft motion picture. Along with it being a Legendary Productions film with Charles Roven, I have much higher expectations than I otherwise would with a video-game based movie. (As we know... Doom was a disgrace and Super Mario Bros was questionable, albeit a classic)

What do you guys think about it?

How would it work.
It would just be a montage of raids with all the dialog being in internet speak and every once in a while a chuck norris joke or two.

I think the best tribute to WoW from a media source was probably the South Park rendition. It was equal parts ridicule and respect...ok, more ridicule than respect, but hey, that's South Park's M.O.
I will probably watch it regardless of who is involved when it is finished, but I won't have my hopes up. Trying to make WoW into a movie seems to be a...futile effort.
I want to see a spell / arrow / shot / thrown weapon fly into someone's face.

It's not a World of Warcraft movie. It's a movie set in the Warcraft universe. There's a difference.

The real question is who will Bruce Campbell play?

Wow, I was never optimistic about this project, but now... I'll actually keep my eyes peeled. This actually could be good.
In response to earlier posts, it's not a movie about the videogame WoW, it's a movie set in the warcraft universe, which is actually pretty good.

I realize that, but think about it. Anything from the Warcraft universe with Blizzard's hand on it will most likely involve current or new content that requires no backstory. Thus, content from WoW would make sense. Eg:
Arthas shows up. Kills people. Pisses Alliance and Horde off. Respective factions head to Northrend to kill Arthas. Realize they are powerless when seperated. Fight together. Arthas's rear is handed to him. Epic fight sequence somewhere in there. Some inter-alliance conflict. Resulting plot twists and so on. End of movie.
Or they could go back to the old school lore which escapes the average WoW / non-Warcraft fan and go from there.
Either way, WoW canon will have a HUGE effect on it and it probably will never be as awesome as the trailers or the intro movies to BC and WotLK.

see your all missing the important point of all this
how the hell is he going to get the classic into this film.
my hope is that Ash gets tossed into this dimension in it and saves the Warcraft universe from the Necronomicon.

...
I'll admit. I'm a bit stoked to see how all of this turns out.

this is very true... I hope some awesome dwarf that builds a rough version of the chainsaw arm, There is no way this movie is going to be serious because of the community in WoW I doubt serious would be the "accurate" Convey of the title.

This, & I'm wondering how he's going to sneak his car in there.

Obviously he will play a disillusioned Quest-giver who ventures forth in search of the one that stole his golden exclamation mark.

How to work Bruce and 'The Classic' into this film:
- Lich-King
- Undead Scourge
- Forsaken
- Death Knights
I don't play, so has anyone seen a creepy book around in there that someone might want to destroy or control?
My guess is, a cameo involving the Undead Scourge (who are otherwise not involved in the storyline) and a maimed human adventurer who has a unique epic mount...

Would anybody else want to see a Bruce Campbell Arthas? That makes me lol.... but in an internal way.

Although I hate WoW, I'd still like to see if this will be a masterfully executed trainwreck. At least it would get some funny reviews from Spoony or TGWTG or something.
Betting it takes the PoV of the alliance.

Re: Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft Movie?
Hmm... PoV of Alliance? I suppose it would depend a lot on where they start in the timeline. Would be interesting to see things from both perspectives.
Nomadic has the gist of it though. The basic "epic movie" outline...

Re: Sam Raimi to direct World of Warcraft Movie?
Last I heard it was gonna focus on horde vs. alliance stuff, taking place in the few years between Warcraft 3 and the beginning of WoW, and focus (but not entirely) on a group of alliance adventurers. Granted, I heard this a year or two ago - does anyone know if they're still planning to run with this idea?
I still say the best (or most accurate at least) WoW movie would be a group beating a high-end dungeon, then running it two more times because the Paladin didn't get his boots to drop.
