I'd imagine she wouldn't need to because you're an adult now.

I've been reliably told by my dentist that whilst my teeth should normally be destroyed by all the scale that builds up on them, it actually serves as armour and my teeth are as a result largely indestructible. Very minor care to keep them intact, just the occasional descaling every few months or so.

1) Outside surfaces, starting on the left.
2) Working surfaces alternating maxillary and mandibular preceding rightwards by thirds (right molars and premolars, then canines and incisors, then left molars and premolars).
3) Inside surfaces in the same manner as the working surfaces, but left to right again.
4) Random selection.
5) Rinse.
6) Floss, mandibular left-to-right, then maxillary left-to-right. Sometimes I skip flossing, but on average it's 6+ times a week.
7) (optional) Random selection.
8) Rinse.

I've only been flossing for a few years, after persistent nagging from my dentist. It's become less annoying now that I've found floss that fits between my teeth, and I have enough practice that it's fairly easy.
She rarely says anything about mouthwash, so I don't bother.

For those that don't like flossing, I've found I have a much easier time with floss sticks instead of traditional loose floss. It's not quite as good, because you're using a much smaller area, so it gets dirty quicker, but it's still going to be a lot better than nothing.

Loose floss doesn't work for me. I use the picks, when I remember to floss. I've got wide-spaced teeth, though, so the electric brush with the little floss-action bristles inserted gets plenty already, and the floss is just detailing.

After I swish, I hold mouthwash in my mouth until I can't stand it, trying to get it to soak.

That is not how plaque works.

That is not even remotely how plaque works.

Tartar buildup is not rocket science. If your dentist told you that they are an idiot.

Even if your teeth were indestructable (which they are not), that "scale" (aka tartar) will eventually irritate and destroy your gums, which means your indestructable teeth will fall right out of your head.

So, A+.

Wow; all that focus on dental care must be giving you sensation problems in your lower extremities - you clearly can't feel Lying pulling your leg, there. ;)

He should have said he plated his teeth with adamantium so he didn't have to brush. :D

You know what I find works for plaque? Instead of cereal, you fill a bowl of sugar. And then you fill that bowl with milk. And then you eat that instead.

I would like to point a couple things out.

Brushing removes bits of food from your teeth, Removing the bits of food even microscopic, impeded the growth of plaque, the plaque on your teeth is the primary factor in the blockage of arteries leading to heart attacks.

Removing the plaque prevents tooth decay which in turn limits the places that plaque can form.

So it saves your teeth freshens your breath, and makes it easier to save your teeth, freshen your breath, and keepy yourself from having heart attacks.

Flossing, while it removes some plaque and food bits from between your teeth is primarily to stimulate your gums so they hold onto your teeth. If you brush every day, and never develop a cavity it is still not only possible but likely that your teeth will be worked out of place and fall out in late life.

I have never flossed in my life. I brush my teeth every night before bed (and not very well too). Never had anything wrong with my teeth in my life.

I have had multiple friends complain to me about how unfair it is that I take so bad care of it and still have perfect teeth.

I also bought floss today.

Well, not really, but close enough.

Anyway, my understanding was that floss->brush->mouthwash is the most effective order, so that's usually what I do.

Kag is right, you get two sets, and some people get three.

I brush twice a day, and floss at night. Never been a fan of mouthwash. I've always been an avid brusher though, and after having had braces for a couple of years, I have all manner of tools to get into all crevices of my mouth and around my permanent retainer.

Also some tablets that turn the plaque on your teeth pink which you take after you've brushed to see where you missed.

My dentist says I have some of the cleanest teeth he's seen.
I don't have a lot of friends, just my fans. And they are all I need.

This thread has reminded me that I need to floss more. And that I need to find that little card that tells me when my next dentist appointment is.
