PETA Requests Vegetarian Diet for Cannibalism Suspect.

Postby Nitro » 11 Jan 2008, 16:21

You can't make this stuff up.

So PETA doesn't much care that the guy killed and ate his girlfriend, but now they're asking the jail to give him a vegetarian diet so he won't be doing any "senseless killing".
Freaks.

Sometimes I reckon that PETA is run by big meat eating hunters who pull this shit to discredit the veggie bunch.

Actually, I pretty much prefer to believe that wild conspiracy theory rather then come to the conclusion that PETA are all batshit loco. It makes me feel better, some how.

BTW I love the PETA's conclusion that if you eat meat then your bound to become a murderer, that veggies would never do that. (If anyone tries the Hitler counter you are wrong. srsy.)

PETA are a good example of why you shouldn't use blatantly unethical tactics to try to drive home a very ethical point.

In a society with no shortage of real animal mistreatment, who knew that you had to constantly lie and exaggerate in order to convince people that it was a bad idea?

I'll never forget the report some years back that some PETA 'freedom fighters' broke into a mink farm and loosed all the captive animals.

However, since they were born into captivity, they pretty much milled around...near and on the nearby highway, resulting in many of them being turned into roadkill later that night.

It is up to you to prevent McCuin from contributing to any more suffering and death by placing him on a healthy, humane vegetarian diet,

Strange... EVERY health "nut" I've met has said that a vegetarian diet is just as bad as the mcdonalds diet. Every single one. All of them. People who've done research & only eat stuff that's not processed, contains contains chemicals, etc. etc. etc.

not a hitler reference, but PETA is the Nazi's of the animal world. Except instead of making other suffer, they believe THEY should suffer & save the others.

Can't wait till I get my REAL fur hat. :D

I got a fur coat as a gift from my grandmother recently and I have been afraid to wear it because of psychos, but then I saw a few people wearing them in the last couple of months and figured it's probably safe. I shouldn't be afraid to wear certain clothes, isn't that a kind of discrimination?

Hey, here's one that doesn't.

A vegetarian diet can be just as healthy as a diet including meat. It also leads to a lower incidence of dietary problems and bowel cancers, and obviously significantly reduced chances of catching something like Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease or any number of other animal-borne diseases.

I don't know what kind of 'research' your friends have been doing, but somehow they must have access to research not available to the majority of nutritionists with actual qualifications. Many 'health nuts' are, unfortunately, very misinformed on issues of diet. I come across this all the time, living in Victoria, where we have a lot of raw vegans. Raw vegans believe that cooking food destroys its nutrition. In fact, cooking food breaks down difficult to digest starches and makes it easier for the digestive system to absorb them. Raw vegans, like your friends, also stay away from 'processed' foods like tofu, because processed foods are bad, and they contain chemicals. Nevermind, of course, that everything in the universe is made up of chemicals, and whether or not they are dangerous to eat depends on the specific chemicals in question, not on some voodoo based on whether they come from the ground or from a factory. The point is, I wouldn't take someone's word on a nutritional issue simply because they identify themselves as a health nut, I'd ask them for specifics related to their information. Nutritional claims must be addressed and refuted on individual issues, not simply on an unverified claim of 'x diet is just really bad because I said so.'

There are a lot of dietary myths spread about vegetarian diets, the primary one being that it's 'difficult to get protein,' which is completely untrue. It's actually quite easy on a vegetarian diet to eat just as much protein as your average meat eater. Vitamin B12 can be difficult to get, but nowadays many soy milks, fake meat products and breakfast cereals are fortified with additional B12, and if it's really a problem, you can always just take it in vitamin form. If you have any specific ideas about the negative effects of a vegetarian diet, beyond vague mumblings about how it is worse than eating grease and fat all day, I'd be happy to address them.

I see no reason to believe that this rampant, anti-vegetarian, dietary 'mythology' is anything other than another in a long series of excuses from people who would rather not admit that they enjoy killing and eating animals for pleasure. It ranks up there with 'animals eat meat so it is natural' and 'animals aren't as important as humans because the bible says so.'

If you want to kill and eat animals for pleasure, fine. Lots of people do it, and society finds it very acceptable, so I'm not going to fault you for it, personally, but if you have to pretend you have other reasons behind your decision so you can sleep at night, maybe you should actually reconsider the whole meat thing.

Edit: by not fault you for it, I mean I'm not going to fling it in your face unless you bring it up first with bogus arguments. Obviously I don't agree with it, but I don't feel rabidly attacking anyone you see eating a hamburger does anything other than breed animosity.

Please don't associate PETA with regular vegetarians and vegans who are not insane.

PETA is an association of raving psychopaths who purposely exaggerate the effects of meat production and consumption to fuel their social agenda. The only result is to create an adversarial mindset between vegetarians and meat-eaters that actually covers up the real issues for why eating animals or animal products may not be a good choice.

Look at milk production. PETA likes to campaign with a solid "MILK IS POISON WHICH WILL FUCKING KILL YOU AND EVERYONE YOU LOVE" platform. Milk is actually pretty healthy, assuming you aren't lactose intolerant. It has all kinds of healthy stuff in it. I'd probably drink milk myself if not for the fact that, to increase milk production, cows are kept pregnant on an almost constant basis, their calves are sold for veal, and when the cows themselves can no longer give milk, they are chopped up and sold as food.

Furthermore, unless your milk is certified organic (and maybe even if it is, on occasion, depending on who is doing the certifying), it may be from cows who are pumped full of hormones on a constant basis. If it comes from a factory farm, it may be from cows who are forced to stand in confined spaces, constantly, without sufficient room to move, in unsafe living conditions where injuries like broken legs, spinal problems, or rampant, untreated infections (antibiotics would cut into profit margins) are fairly commonplace. Dairy cows in factory farms lead extremely unpleasant and short lives, and then they are chopped up and sold as food... often food for other cows. The above two things of course, vary from farm to farm: a lot of our farms here on the island do not use hormones, let their cattle graze in fields, and do not feed them on chopped up cow parts.

If you're okay with the commodification of animals and stealing cow babies for food, but not okay with animal torture, then just make sure you know where your milk is coming from, and don't support factory farms which commit gross atrocities. If, like me, you find the whole thing kind of disturbing, you might want to stop drinking milk altogether.

Regardless of how you feel about the issue, it's your right to make an informed decision based on the facts, and not based on PETA's antics of waving and yelling. We all like to think that we are right, but it is by continually examining issues as they are presented that we confirm that, not by refusing to accept the available facts. That goes for PETA just as much as it does for the meat apologists.

Now, I am for animal rights and all, I don't believe in wearing fur unless you need to for survival, there are alternatives if you just want to look good, but PETA is just...well...indescribable as to how fucked up they are.

Ok now who's trying to fulfill a social agenda. Cows have not been fed cow by products for many years, yes at one point this happened then it caused a little thing called BSE and is not a common practice anymore.

As for your other points I really don't want to have this arguement, can we please avoid this

All right, you're right that cows specifically are no longer fed meat and bone meal products, but many other animals still are. I got a bit carried away there.
