Somewhat entertaining trailer, didn't look too representative though.
I'm still trying to figure out why someone didn't tell me how awesome Muse is.

Looks alright. I'd definitely like to see some more press, but I'd be willing to give it a shot based on that trailer. And kudos for including "stand up" by the prodigy in there. That song has some phat horns.

But some of the Mystery Men actually had powers, so it's not quite the same!

If you haven't read the comic this is based on, GO DO IT NOW! The comic is awesome, and I'm really looking forward to this movie.

The begining had me giggling like a loon.
I've been stabbed, shot at, impaled, been beheaded with a chainsaw, set on fire and had a parasite injected into me and I'M STILL NOT CRYING!

Re: Yet another super hero movie.
Don't have high hopes for the movie. There's always a distinct possibility that the trailer could be skewing the tone of the film, but it seems like the movie is espousing the message "If you have the right attitude, you can be a superhero, too! " Not only is this in direct opposition with the comics, which anyone who has read them will know is pretty fervent with its own message of "Anyone who wants to be a superhero is either mentally ill or retarded," but anyone who saw my rather violent reaction in the old thread about Real Life Superheroes probably knows what my stance is on the whole "All you need is a costume and a taste for justice and you can be just like Batman!" thing.
Just look at that trailer. It shows what I believe is supposed to be the first fight that Kick-Ass gets into after donning his costume. He's on the ground, out of breath, but still looks up to proudly tell an astonished onlooker who he is. Let's contrast that with what happens in the comic: Kick-Ass descends on the thugs and gets in a couple of cheap shots with his baton and a bottle of liquor before they overpower him and beat the shit out of him. One of the thugs stabs him in the stomach. Dazed and in terrible pain, Kick-Ass tries to escape. He runs into the street and gets hit by a car, the driver of which takes one look at him and speeds off. It takes four surgeries, many weeks of physical rehabilitation and some time spent on crutches before he fully recovers.
Does the movie seem to keep the same spirit that the comic book does? I mean, I'm not one to bitch when an adaptation changes things from the source material, but when the trailer makes it seem like it completely fucking flipped the entire moral all the way around, something's gone wrong. They make HitGirl's beating of the thugs seem like an awesome moment of superheroism instead of the insanely violent slaughter that it actually is, you know? That bothers me.

I could easily see the Kick-Ass fight scene as being him fantasizing about it, or that moment right before the bad guys get back up.
As for HitGirl, the "so, you want to play do you?" line before she pulls out a throwing knife kind of suggests that she's really enjoying injuring the other person.
Is the trailer skewing it slightly? Probably. People aren't going to queue up to a film that advertises that the protagonists are going to get the shit kicked out of them and learn valuable lessons about the limitations of man.
Do I think that will hamper the movie? Maybe. This trailer is doing a good job of raising interest (imdb purports a 216% increase in interest, whatever the fuck that means), but if you send people into a movie with the wrong impressions, they're more likely to leave disappointed (see brutal legend). I suspect that future trailers will broach more and more of the actual nature of the story as the release nears, and that this trailer will give people a jumping off point so that in about 3 months when the trailer for this is appended to some smash hit people will go "Oh yeaaaah, I remember hearing about that. It looks good".
