Brew Update!
Brew Update!
Well LRR forum, I and my roommate Abe, have started a good old brew group. Another buddy of ours will also join in. We are making a Red Ale and have just set it to ferment. In a few weeks we shall have a wonderful beverage to consume!
It was interesting because we lacked a thermometer. You see dear children, there are certain temperatures that you must have the wort (the beer before yeast is added) certain temperatures. So it is a little iffy on whether or not the beer will turn out perfect.
So! Soon there will be five gallons of delicious brew in my apartment. I'll keep ya posted!

Re: Brew Update!
Why not buy a thermometer and not potentially waste hundreds of dollars of materials? They're only like $5.
As for myself, I like most beers but if pressed will tend towards an amber ale. Though my go-to beer is Tuborg.

Re: Brew Update!
such coincidence, I myself just started a honey irish red. Odd, I know, but why brew something you can buy, and besides, my sister asked for it for her wedding in July, and I figure it'll take a few tries to get right.
So, is this an all grain, partial mash, extract and grain or extract only brew?
I wouldn't really worry about the thermometer unless you're mashing btw.
I like my Belgian trappists and lambics myself.

Well, it is an LME and grain. This is our first attempt though my dad is a long time brewer (I being the bottle bitch for most of it and not paying much attention, silly me) and he is offering tips over the phone. Seeing as it is our first try we are doing it by the book from the kit.

Yeah, which is a sad, sad statement about the quality of Mr. Buckley's work. He's like the Tom Cruise of webcomics.King Kool wrote:Also, College University is WAY better than CAD:TAS.

Re: Brew Update!
Tak: a wheat beer doesn't really count as a light beer, they have their own category. When you say lighter beer I think lager/pilsner.
Personal favorites:
swans berry ale
Granville island brewery lions winter ale
Phillips longboat double chocolate porter
hoegarten wheat
sleemans no.20
sleemans original draught.
My standby beer is heineken.

O'gawd. Warm lucky is the worst. At my friends wedding this summer, there will be a 6pack on each table. I drink beer very rarely, since that's how I started to get fatter. But when I do, it definitly has to be COLD. So hopefully they will have it being chilled in cute wedding-y ice buckets.
