What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
I've been asking a lot of my friends at the movie theatre what they think the worst movie of the last ten years has been. I've gotten a few interesting answers like Fast and Furious, Disaster Movie and The Men Who Stare At Goats (would've been Mystery Men, but that was 1999).
For me, I have to put Super Size Me as the worst of the decade. Not becuase I disagree, and not because the science is so soft you could spread it over bread, and not even because he shamelessly apes Michael Moore (who I don't like in the first place), but because after Super Size Me was a hit, we've been inundated with mostly worthless 'documentaries' produced by anyone with an axe to grind against Wal-Mart or Visa or global warming or anything they didn't like. The nastiness has even leaked into other more legit documentaries, but that may not be a direct relation.
One of my bosses said I should pick a more orthodox movie for the worst, and there's a lot of good choices, but no clear winner. Would it be the only movie I've ever walked out on (Rat Race)? Would it be the most painful movie (John Q; in this movie's defense, the only thing wrong with it is the script) or the most boring (Mummy 3)? Or the most incompetent (Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li)? None of those really stand out from the pack.
Of course, the question of the best movie of the last ten years is arguably harder. For me, I really loved Adaptation, The Dark Knight, The Prestige and Unbreakable (and I'll bet I'm forgetting something here), but picking a favorite is daunting.
Notice I said 'ten years' instead of decade.
So, what do you guys think are the best and worst movies of the last ten years?
If you start the decade argument in this topic, I will do unspeakable things in your coffee pot.

The worst: Year One
The Best (thebestthebestthebest): Divided between Milk, The Dark Knight, and Inglorious Basterds.
Honorable Mentions: The Departed, Band of Brothers (technically a television show, but I love it regardless), Casino Royale, and Cloverfield

Re: What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
For me, the worst would have to be Transformers 2.
Not beacause it was a bad movie, but because it was THE proffessional-level bad movie.
Everything was offensive to the senses, from the scripts and plot, to the design and effects. What makes it the worst, is that this was a hollywood movie, with a huge budget and access to an enormous pool of talent, and it still manged to be dogshite.
Failing even in it's aim to be big, dumb and fun, the terrible plotting and over-direction removes any possibility of real enjoyment.
It is this movie that proved Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox are offensive to all 5 senses. Gah, I can taste the air around them. It's like chicken gone bad...

The past decade in film?
I have to suggest Satoshi Kon's incredible work...
Millenium Actress
Tokyo Godfathers
Paprika
Also, of course, Hayao Miyazaki...
Spirited Away
Howl's Moving Castle
Ponyo
Michael Arias' amazing breakout film, Tekkonkinkreet...
Richie Metha's stunning work with Amal...
And even though it's not a film per se, I cannot possibly go without mentioning illustrator Kozue Amano and director Junichi Sato's masterwork of beauty and dreams, Aria.

Easiest Worst Movie choice I've ever had: Master of Disguise.
Envy was also fucking awful.
Here are some of the best methinks:
Amelie
Pan's Labyrinth
Slumdog Millionaire
Requiem For A Dream
Dark Knight
Just some ideas to toss up for it...

Re: What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
For the worst, the first to come to mind is Inland Empire. I've probably seen worse but not only was this one a confusing, jumbled trainwreck, it was THREE HOURS of confusing, jumbled trainwreck.
For the best, that would take days to figure out. Too many to decide from.

Re: What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
Best film? I'm not able to say. Most of my favourite films are from the late 90's. Henry Fool, Boondock Saints... Maybe The Brave One.
Worst film? Hostel 2. I couldn't even make it past the literal blood bath scene. The gore didn't bother me, it's just that they had nudity for the pure sake of having naked women. I don't like films that have nudity as a way to draw people in. If you're going to have sex, have it actually add to the story. If you're going to have nudity, have a reason for it. Otherwise, I feel played down to.
Hell, say what you want about the Saw series, at least their only nude scene throughout the entire series had a reason behind it and was done rather tastefully.

I actually meant on best film, as I listed a few dozen. Inland Empire I ended up skipping all together on the point that the David Lynch fans I know don't appreciate my constant laughter in his films. The only film I can remember bailing on was.... well, Doogal, I think.

Re: What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
These kind of questions are impossible so I'll limit myself to 5 of each.
Best:
Amores Perros (probably my favourite film ever)
Gladiator
Hotel Rwanda
Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
City Of God.
Worst (that I had the misfortune of seeing):
Alien vs Predator
Revolver
Lesbian Vampire Killers
Vanilla Sky
Battlefield Earth

Re: What is the best/worst movie of the last ten years?
I agree with a lot of the things that people have written so far, except that Pan's Labyrinth was terrible, but really, how on earth are we supposed to come up with the single best film of an entire decade?
And as for worst, still no Uwe Boll films, guys?
I'm gonna go with Any Way The Wind Blows, just because it's something that will probably be new to almost everyone. And it does have my favourite film ending of all time.

Worst: It's a toss-up between Da Vinci Code and Sunshine. I regretted paying to see both and nearly walked out of both.
Best: Serenity, Incredibles, Watchmen and V for Vendetta all films I went to see multiple times at the cinema.
