Every October this is a thing for me. It's funny how the song's title makes me consider it at this time every year: Tunng-October

So, I'm listening to a lot of Westlife at the moment. Really love some of the covers and songs that they've done. :)

Ben Caplan & The Casual Smokers.

Saw them live Thursday night, going in knowing almost nothing about them, and it was such a great show. Great atmosphere, intimate venue (I was about 5 feet from the band) and energy to spare. Can't find any video to post that quite captures the show I saw, especially since the current line up of the band is a relatively recent thing.

I've been really into a band , who also may have one of the greatest names to ever grace a record store.

King gizzard and the lizard wizard

They're a psych rock band that put out two or so albums every damn year.

Currently in the warm embrace of yet another Jeff Buckley binge. So, so, so so so good. I could listen to his music everyday and never get tired of it. Right now I'm listening to his performance of 'Dido's Lament' which is just insane.

Also back story: He had never performed this song before, and he didn't show up for rehearsal with the backing band, and all he had to go on was a handwritten sheet he made to remind him when to sing higher or lower.

I'm still psyched about Jethro Tull since last month's concert, so I'm listening to all their "other" stuff. Ian Anderson is nothing short of prolific.

Charisma.com are a Japanese electro/rap group that Graham and Kathleen have mentioned before.

HATE is great, and they just did a live show for Youtube.

This song is stuck in my head:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4RU7az5uWg

Kinda worried though. Usually when I get obsessed with a song with words, the lyrics seem to apply to my life at the point (looking retroactively).
This song is about a break up and slowly getting over it.

I hope this breaks the chain of coincidence and quenches my paranoia.

Or maybe I'm slowly getting out of a mire I never knew I was in.

Potential portent aside, that is a great song.

So my brother invited me to a concert recently, Blind Guardian whom I have heard of because they pop up in some of my Pandora stations occasionally. I liked what I heard well enough, but wasn't interested in spending money to go see them, but for $30 I was in. They Kicked ASS.

They played fully 4 songs based on The Lord of The Rings, my kind of band! Amazing crowd energy, it was a really fun night. So I looked up more of their songs when I got home and can honestly say I am now a fan.

My personal favorites were "Tanelorn (Into the Void)" and "Time Stands Still (at the Iron Hill)."

In case anyone was curious here is the setlist: http://www.setlist.fm/setlist/blind-gua ... 54e99.html

So how about that new(ish) Alabama Shakes song? So effing good. I feel really bad that I often forget about this band and that it took me so long to listen to this song.

It's called 'Don't Wanna Fight.' Here it is for those who are interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nin-fiNz50M

Anyone knows any Spanish language Symphonic Metal songs (or Metal songs that aren't people screaming at my face?).

For Symphonic Metal I recommend any Nightwish album before "Dark Passion Play."
Metallica's "S&M" album is one of my favorites, it's a bunch of their greatest hits rescored by Michael Kamen and played alongside the San Francisco Symphony.
Epica's "Classical Conspiracy" might be what your looking for.

I can't help with anything in Spanish though, unless you are looking for EuroDance/Pop...

I would recommend Nightwish too; I'm particularly fond of their latest album, Endless Forms Most Beautiful. Which is admittedly partially because its subject matter, the evolution of life, and the beauty of science in general, is something that very much resonates with me.

I would also recommend Ayreon. While it's more progressive metal/progressive rock, it also features symphonic metal elements in many songs, and definitely falls under 'metal songs that aren't people screaming in my face'. Each album also tells a story, with different singers (from other bands) playing different parts.

I'm a big fan of Ayreon too. If you're interested, I'd suggest starting with The Human Equation, which has some of the best music and by far the easiest to follow storyline. I really like 01011001 too, it's probably my favourite musically, but it is a little harder to follow without reading a synopsis.

The Human Equation is amazing, yeah, probably my favourite album ever. Very much looking forward to the DVD of its theatre version coming out soon. The performance was amazing; I'm very lucky that it happened right here in the Netherlands.

01101010101100101010101 has some utterly fantastic tracks, but is so hard to follow if you don't already know what's going on. The fact that a couple of the tracks just decide to take a complete break from the story to make fun of internet dating doesn't help matters. That said, the story is really great, and The Sixth Extinction actually gets me terrified and saddened every time. Enough so that I tend to actually skip it when I don't feel up to it.

Thank you for the suggestions.
I meant all having Spanish language. But I am privileged to be shown Ayreon. How had I not come across them?

I meant songs like:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Awpo0o8C_g
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w36FsaTsOpc

I really like Spanish being sang because it loses the machine-gun speed which European Spaniards speak with. It starts sounding like Welsh with a little slip of French.

Wikipedia showed me Spanish language metal bands, but they're too rough for me ears.

Oops. :P But I'm glad you like Ayreon! For both you and Magister Mystax, I might recommend checking out Mostly Autumn (one of their singers plays "Love" in The Human Equation), in particular their newest album, Dressed in Voices. It's not metal, but it's an excellent concept album that scratches the same itch for me, and stands next to The Human Equation in my mind.

I enjoyed the journey of The Human Equation. It was... a ride.

It reminded me of the Nightwish movie Imaginerium which had a similar concept of a person in a coma and exploring their subconscious.

I liked the song Loser the most since if you ever experience insecurity, that is exactly how it talks in your mind. Well, how you talk in your own mind. LOSER.
